England V India

It's sad that world cricket has gotten to this stage, but I've been watching this Indian side, and there's a horrible nagging thought at the back of my head wondering if we're going to see a load of allegations coming out after this series.[/QUOTwag

I think the main allegation you can make against this Indian side is that their major players have all got tooold at the same time. Tendulkar, Laxman & Dravid are the wrong side of 35,and Zaheer Khan, Sehwag, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Ghambir & Yuvraj are the wrong side of 30. Although IMO Yuvraj has never been test class. They'll all retire about the same time leaving a huge void for the Indian selectors to fill.

Its like Australia all over again when the likes of Langer, Martyn, Warne, McGrath & co hung up their bats and balls.

Just to reiterate, I wasn't saying that I believe there has been match fixing, just that my immediate concern (especially on seeing some of the fielding) is that the suggestion would be made after the series

Good days play today. England started the day needing 7 wickets (and possible a handful of runs) and didnt take a wicket in the morning - first session this series India have not lost a wicket I believe. We eventually managed to get the nightwatchman Mishra for 84, and the next over we thankfully got Tendulkar before he could get his 100th ton. We have 5 wickets to get and they are about 20 behind. Perhaps most crucially new ball is due soon.

Rod Tucker who gave TEndulkar out (rightly) is a brave man. There is no way Billy Bowden would have done that.

EDIT: Raina has now been put out of his misery by Swann to end a woeful tour for him. I was at the Oval on Saturday and his 29 ball duck was painful. This innings he got a 14 ball duck. Given the new ball was due in 4 balls time and his inability to deal with a bouncer, I suspect he is partly thankful his stay didn't last much longer. Pitiful from him.

Ironically (from an Indian perspective), Raina would apparently had been reprieved if DRS had been in play - an edge, and going over. Oops.

:joke:

Ha, yeah pity that! Still, given how Raina bricks himself whenever anything short is sent his way, I suspect he wouldn't have referred it even if he could have!

8 wickets down now....we have taken last 5 wickets for 8 runs!

Mike Atherton on Raina:

"Suresh Raina was gated by a ball from Anderson’s round-the-wicket angle that was supposed to swing but didn’t.

Anderson celebrated Raina’s downfall with about as much enthusiasm as Bill Gates might a lottery win, which tells you all you need to know about the left-hander’s standing in the eyes of the England players. "

There was me thinking I could get to the pub at 5 and watch a tense finish, damn you India!

Bloody hell, as soon as their last proper batsman, Mishra, went they folded.

They lost their last 6 wickets for 21 runs. Feeble.

England's 7th innings win in their last 13 tests.

Pathetic from the Indian middle & lower order.

Great performance from the lads though and Swann in particular today.

You can only beat what is put in front of you. On that showing the Indian's should not even be in the top 5.

I'd like to see Ravi given MOTS for his excellent unbeaten 40 odd.

Seriously though, so many monumental performances. Bell and Broad particularly excellent given the doubts cast upon them previously.

It was actually 7-21, so probably more Woeful than Feeble :winking:

Good call on Ravi.

Man of the Series should be Stuart Broad.

25 wickets at 13.84 and 182 runs at 60.66 is one of the all-time great all-round performances. Not sure if Botham or Sobers ever managed anything like that, and remember as bad as India have been, they came into this as no.1 in the world.

The combined team of the series would basically be Dravid in for Trott/Bopara.

Agree about Dravid... Kumar over Swann?

I reckon Sobers would have, in 1966 he had a dominant series in England, added to the runs and wickets I think he held 10 catches.

Between them Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Sehwag & Gambhir have scored over 40,000 runs and over 100 centuries in Test cricket, yet in 8 innings they couldn't top 300. Pitiful. Cook in one innings outscored 7 other Indian scores.

Well, that's the end of India's tour, and not one victory over England. When was the last time we were this dominant over an established test nation?
