England V India

I reckon if and when Cook beats Goochy's 333 England should declare. This India team are so rubbish they can be bowled out pretty cheaply. Besides the weather doesn't look that great so no point trying to rack up a huge total.

If Cook gets 333 England are going have somewhere around a 550 run lead - I think that classes as a huge total!

Anyway, if you let him go to 333 you might as well let him try and beat Hutton's 364 but it's academic as you've now put the kiss of death on him.

ps Poor Ravi, if he gets a bat he has nothing to gain and everything to lose.

260no will give Cooky a Test average of 50. He'd already be there had it not been for the 4 previous innings! Pretty phenomenal when you consider that at the end of 2009 his average was 42.

I did wonder how he felt when the Indians dropped two absolute sitters to give Morgan two reprieves yesterday before he had made a decent score.......on such small things careers can be lost and made...

This will surely be one of the most crushing defeats- if not the most crushing defeat- in the history of cricket.
Would be nice to see Bopara get in and hit the Indians all over the park as he can do but you know he is only keeping Trotts seat warm whatever he does.

So are they going to let Cook bat on until he runs out of partners or are they going to declare soonish?

From the BBC....

From Mr Ogs, TMS inbox: "Poor Ravi Bopara, he is cricket's adaptation of a theme park ride, all that time in the queue then whosh and it's all over."

BBC Test Match Special's Michael Vaughan

"Alastair Cook will be told he'll have time after tea to break Graham Gooch's 333 and then they'll look to declare, but then they might be tempted to let him beat Len Hutton's 364. He could go on and on."

Don't know how to multi quote, but after YB's post earlier this morning, has he been writing Michael Vaughan's lines for him......
