England V India

Cook is having a 'mare this series... 12, 1, 2, 5

Regression to the mean.

I got bored watching Swann, who shouldn't even have been playing, get smacked around and dozed off. Woke up and Strauss and Cook were batting so missed Stuart Bothamroad's heroics.

I see Jimmy Anderson has lost his nightwatchman job.

Feels like a statement of intent from England today. Nothing says we're top dog better than nonchalantly scoring 400+ in a days play. If we go on to win this test I think it'll break the Indians and we'll romp the series 4-0.

I don't like cricket, I ****ing love it.

England are becoming a seriously good team, and well done to all concerned. Stating the bloody obvious it's a matter of time before we go 2-0 up. Not taking anything away from England, but India, Dravid and possibly Kumar aside have been utterly pitiful.

I'm wondering how England will go about selecting the side for Edgbaston if Trott is ruled out. Push Prior up to 6, and bring in Tremlett (if fit) or Finn and have 5 bowlers. Or bring in another batsman, such as Bopara, Hildreth or Taylor.

Yes, some decent depth there. There is a lions game before the next test so be interesting to see who gets runs in that but I don't see the point in bringing Hildreth in..... either Bopara as the 'next cab off the rank', Taylor as the brightest star of the generation below Bops, or Patel to give an extra spinning option if they think Edgbaston will turn seem better options........at 2 nil up and the bowlers all taking wickets Im not sure they would see the need to go in with 5 bowlers, and they will be keen to ensure they win the series, and by 2 matches to go to number 1..... However, moving forward to the winter tours, with the contributions from Prior, Broad, Bresnan and Swann with the bat, they are going to have to give serious consideration to 5 bowlers.

England's policy is to go with 4 bowlers recently, as ever I had forgotten Patel. I agree that Bopara is probably the next cab off the rank, given what happened at the start of the season when most thought he'd get the gig over Morgan. He'll give the team a few more overs than Trott, but as you say it'll depend what the pitch will be like at Edgbaston. If they go with Patel then Prior should be at 6 IMO.

The Indians have a reputation for starting badly and then coming back strongly in the series.

However I struggle to see it happening

Ha, think we've blown that stat out of the water! 319 runs win, smashing the Indians like we smashed the Aussies, ****ing love it!!

Harbajhan & Yurjav & Singh (no relation as far as I'm aware!) are out of the final two games. 4-0 here we come.

I wouldn't have been surprised to see either of them dropped for the next game anyway so no great loss to India.

I still fancy them to rack up one big score to give them a victory or draw, but hopefully we play on a pitch with enough in it to win one of the last two games to win by 2 clear matches.

On Lions watch, Taylor outscores Bopara.........Don't know if Trott will be fit or not but Ravi needs to score well in second innings to stake his claim.
