England Tour of South Africa

Fighting back today, Collingwood somehow surviving some quality bowling with the new ball from Steyn. 5 wickets left with 50 odd overs to bowl.

I'm glad I'm not watching it, as it looks to be seriously attritional stuff... however good effort from Colly and Bell.

Enthralling stuff. They did bloody well to see off that new ball spell.

Anyway, we only need just under 6 an over to win, Bell is just holding back before he rips the attack apart and gets us home with a few overs to spare.........

nah good old backs to the wall stuff at times, Steyn was bowling really well and was unlucky not to get Colly out! Morkel wasn't really backing him up though.

It was always going to be like this once a few wickets went down.

LOLcats.

:p

Colly's the key. He loves nothing more than a battling draw. The Grauniad OBO has been flying around with random stats - such as Colly's average in defeat (39.19) is higher than it is in victory (39.04)... but both are eclipsed by his average in gritty draws (51.36).

Those stats may well be entirely fictitious - but they certainly have the ring of truth about them.

Here's hoping...!

I'm hoping now the second new ball has been and gone that England should hold on, unless some cheating Saffer tries to tamper with the ball. ;) Luckily with pie chucker Harris operating at one end there's no threat from spin. I don't think de Wet has had a good match here, so it will be a question of wearing down Morkel & Steyn.

IMO Smith should have declared when they had a lead of 400, but safety first is always the South African watch word.

From BBC commentary -

Colly squeezes a brace of full ones back to mid-on - he simply will not be tempted, and even a glimpse of his emotionless face is enough to almost bring me to tears. 173 balls for his 34. I think I'm falling in love.

:D

Double bugger. Have to agree after his first innings vigil Prior should have made a better fist of that. What price Omions playing out the last over again?
