England Tour of South Africa

Words actually fail me... If that's true about the volume button, surely that has to go down as one of the most monumental **** ups in the history of the sport?

Rain ...........hopefully that's it for the day. If it's the same weather for the last two days we may...................perhaps.....................get out of this. If I were South African I would probably push for 100 runs+ in the first session tomorrow and then get England in again, hoping that they would bat as well as they did in their first innings!

As I type we're nine wickets down. Humiliating capitulation by our batsmen and I sincerely hope we never see KP in an England shirt again.

I think KP needs to look at his views on batting in a test match, and stop believing in his own publicity, and then we might get back this fine cricketer to his best form.

At the start of this thread I predicted a 2-1 win for the Saffers, so I'm not complaining about a drawn series. However England did rather get out of jail at Centurion & Newlands, although the problems were of their own making at both.

The capitulation in Jo'burg is hard to take as England & Strauss got an awful lot wrong. Winning the toss and bating and the selection of Sideshow being two. They weren't helped by the ineptitude of hapless Harper, but overall were never in this game.

England's batting was an inept as Harper's officiating, it really was that bad.

Personally, I think going forward England will struggle to win tests with the current make-up of the side. I think 4 seamers is a must if you want to regularly win test matches. How England must wish they had a bowler of Morkel's pace and height, I thought he was a joy to watch. It goes without saying that Steyn is a class act and that England would love to have him in the side, as he is the best bowler in the world by some distance at the moment.

They'll also struggle to win if the batsmen keep on failing, but I don't think Capey and Strauss will have too many series where they are as ineffective as this. With your two main batsmen failing to contribute, other than Capey's effort to save the first test, it is always going to be an uphill struggle. If someone had told me that neither Capey nor Strauss would score a century and that both would average in the 20s, I'd have ripped your hand off it you'd offered me a draw. England can therefore take comfort that they did as well as they did without their two main batsmen contributing. This undoubtedly had a knock-on effect on the likes of Prior and Broad who are likely to have contributed a lot more had they faced more favourable match situations.

Well said. If he performs like he surely can then "my crusade" will be truly over, but to me he seems to care more about the IPL than anything else.
