England cricket 2024

Abysmal. Same old problems.
Slightly different problems isn’t it?

Usually it’s the top order and the spin attack that was the issue. Here it’s 5-7 and to a lesser extent seam attack that his been the issue whilst the openers and spinners have exceeded expectations.

That lower middle order of Bairstow, Stokes and Foakes has been historically horrific.

50 over World Cup campaign - fail
India Test tour - fail

England have some pretty major rethinking and/or rebuilding to do. Next up the T20 World Cup

Jimmy Anderson will play his last ever match for England at Lords in July against West Indies. Will be an end of an era but they are building towards the next ashes series in 18 months and his form/age suggests there are better alternatives who deserve some game time to prepare for that series.

If anyone deserves his last test to be at Lord's it's Jimmy. If anyone deserves a BBC lifetime achievement award it's Jimmy.

Quite simply the best fast bowler the world has ever produced. He's taken 700 test wickets. The next best is on 604. He's miles ahead. Oh, and the one on 604 is Stuart Broad!

They really are the Redgrave and Pinsent of fast bowling.

To give you an idea of his dedication, here's a story I read a few days ago. He was upset with his performance during the last ashes series where he only took 5 wickets, so he hired a running track to work on his run up speed.

He doesn't know this yet, but for my son's 16th birthday and as a well done for getting through his GCSEs, we've bought 2 tickets for the England vs Australia one day International at Lord's.

It was only after buying the tickets that we realised it was a school day, so he's getting a bonus too!

Totally agree , but do feel if we have any chance to get the Ashes back then it was the right call by selectors as hard as it must have been.
