Yes, he's ruined his former star status with us IMHO. I can't see him ever playing a role for us again. All those who say that he'll "come good" - when exactly? He's barely kicked a ball in anger all season and I doubt he ever will.

Not a Sturrock signing by all accounts.

Not for me he hasn't. Of course it hasn't worked out how we hoped but he will always be a legend as far as I'm concerned.

When I heard that Freddy was coming back I must admit that I was torn between head and heart.

Heart was saying, 'Yeeessss, great signing, welcome back, Freddy!!!':Worthy:

Head was saying, 'Don't do it, it'll never be the same, if it don't come off the memories will be tarnished. He's been sitting on benches, injured or playing reserve football for ages.' :nope:

I invariably go with my head, the last time the heart was right was when I met the wife back in 1975 ( I had to put that in, she's sitting net to me as I type :winking:), sadly, it would appear that my head was right again.

Because of that I made the decision to regard this Freddy Eastwood as someone different to the old Freddy and try and keep the memories apart from each other, and I'm glad I did.
Probably because of this I think I've been able to be a little more subjective and although I agree that we've seen the odd flashes of the old Fred, and there is no doubt he has better vision and technique than probably anyone else in the squad, there is also no doubt that it's just not happening this time around for him. If I could put my finger on it then I'd be the manager and not Luggy but obviously Luggy can't seem to sort it either....

I'm a great admirer of Luggy but Freddy and Harris have been the two biggest disappointments, IMHO, of his tenure. Having said that he's done a lot more right than wrong.

It's obviously showing what Luggy thinks about the pair of them at present as Chris Phillips has just tweeted that he believes the pair of them haven't even travelled with the squad today; now whether that's a reflection of what Coughlan thought after the other evening and is a slap on the wrist or is a more permanent judgement time will tell. However, it should be a wake up call to the pair of them that if they're fit but can't even make the bench for an away game at Accrington Stanley in League Two then the fat lady may well be heard limbering up in the wings.....:'(

Did he not once quit West Spam as he had fell out of love with football?
I certainly remember him saying he quit football for a year. Look, we're within a win of an automatic promotion spot and the two forwards who have played together for the vast majority of the season have scored not far off 30 goals between them and struck up a terrific partnership and understanding. Freddy has been out of the team on merit, and when he has started games he's largely been disappointing - Barnet, for example, when he played in a position behind the front two that some had been dying to see.

For what it's worth I thought he was superb in his loan spell at the back end of last season and transformed the way the team played for the better. Trouble is, we have to remember he had a knee operation in the summer, and worryingly it looks like it's done more damage than good. Sturrock has repeatedly said Freddy only trains sporadically due to persistent niggles so he's clearly not fit enough to start games at the moment. I really, really hope he will still be in a position to contribute between now and the end of the season but the signs don't look good. Maybe someone on here who attends training on a regular-ish basis can give us a better insight?

Interesting to see the difference between situation with BBBC and Freddy. Barry was thrown on earlier in the season when clearly not match fit and after far more serious and long term injuries. He's still not 100pct match fit IMO but he works so hard for the team and even on a bad day can make or score a goal out of nothing (like last week..) We all know he's not on the same planet as Freddy in terms of ability but equally can't imagine FE putting in the same commitment at training or for the cause on the pitch. Until Britt and Tomlin got injured, they were clearly first choice anyway, but you still need some backup on the bench when things are not working out and at this level Freddy ought to be a godsend in those circs. BUT, he can't even get on in that role ahead of BBBC/Lavery/Harris....

I agree with earlier post that if Sturrock thought Freddy would do the biz on the pitch he would use him, but he clearly doesn't.

Totally agree with Spenser.....it's all about team effort....not the past.
Sorry Fred, I also was "skipping through hoops" when your return was announced...I think many, (all?), of us fans would be over the moon to see you fight through the training ground, subs bench and re-establish yourself in the team.

Eastwood still has that presence around the net but he's a shadow of his former self. His wage must be bad for this club as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see him and Harris go in the summer and clear up some of our wages.

To be fair to Freddy, it's clear Sturrock doesn't fancy him in terms of Freddy fitting into a Sturrock style team. If Freddy was playing regularly, match fit and loved then he clearly has the pedigree and footballing brain to score goals at this level.

It doesn't make Sturrock a bad man just as it doesn't mean the 'legend' that is Freddy should no longer loved by the Roots Hall faithful.

persinally, whether Sturrock is making a point by not playing his non signings like Freddy & Eastwood, I think he is missing a trick not including them on match days. They are both clever footballers and both score goals when giving minutes.

No wonder Freddy is always injured if he has split in half. :winking:

In all seriousness, it's clear Freddy is genuinely injured. Wasn't he seen with an ice pack after being subbed in the Essex Cup? He probably wasn't even fit enough to start that game and if so shouldn't have been risked.

Blimey, didn't we give Corr long enough and hasn't him come back and repaid the faith we showed? Didn't we give Mark Phillips ample time to get over injury in his first season and didn't he come back and give us a player of the year performance to repay the faith? I'm absolutely positive Freddy would rather be playing than taking so long to get over an operation last summer, come on guys, get off his back.

But will he ever be fit? Cant see him, Harris or Benyon playing for us this season. With all due respect to Waltham Abbey, all 3 of them should be banging in goals past them. Or at least looking interested which seemingly none of them did.

Doh...meant Freddy and Harris x

Thing is where would he go? I cant see another club taking him.
Why not loan him to Canvey they are doing well in the Ryman at the moment and Tilson was the only manager Eastwood has ever done well for so worth giving him a go there.

I would be for this, a loan to a local club, giving him pitch time. Ok, but is the guy fit enough, to even start a game outside of the four main divisions. For the first time since Fred came back, i think maybe this is his last season.

What local club ?

If it is motivation on Freddys part he wont regain it playing for Canvey.
