E-mail sent to club

Just a quick note to let people know that I've sent the follwing e-mail to the club:

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]I would be grateful if you could please clarify the club's position on the potential situation of seats allocated to home supporters being taken by away fans for next Tuesday's game. I'm sure that you are already well aware of the potetntial this situation would have for the incitement of trouble, and I am writing in the hope that you can provide assurance that the club will fulfil its obligation to remove any such fans identified and pointed out to stewards. In particular, could you please outine the club's policy on what constitutes support for the away team (e.g. colours, chanting, etc).

Thanks,
I'm sure the club are busy and I'm not expecting an instant reply, but hopefully this will produce an undertaking that any scummers in our stands openly trying to wind us up will be dealt with, against which the club can be held to account if this is not the case. If I get a reply I'll post it here.

Well done SS...

I haven't got a problem with Mancs in our end, they have queued like everyone else etc etc....as long as they respect the fact they are in the home end...

If I hear or see a Manc openly singing or celebrating in our end, there's going to be a few words said....

I shall also be pointing out anyone wearing man utd colours. As it shows disrespect to the club, the players and us fans.

That's pretty much how I feel about it - if the person next to me is keeping quiet and is not wearing colours then I'm not going to ask who they're supporting, but I'll be damned if I'm going to spend the majority of the game listening to taunts from glory hunters who've probably never been to a game before in their lives.

Does it really matter that much? I mean Manchester United are one of the most popular teams in the world and if one of their fans was prepared to queue throughout one of the coldest nights of the year then he (or she) surely deserves that ticket, whether or not it be in the home area. Embarking on an all-out search to root out these fans just smacks of a desperate attempt to avoid the simple fact that Southend United are a far, far smaller club that Manchester United. Do we really want to have our very own "Kristallnacht" next Tuesday evening?

That's not entirely fair. There's usually the odd kid wearing a Man U, or even West Ham, Arsenal and Spurs, top in the crowd. Let then off, they're too young to understand the error of their ways!

I suspect that this is bait, but here goes...

I'm not proposing an all out witch hunt as we all know that the burnings would present a clear health and safety issue. I certainly don't intend to spend the evening roaming the stands trying to unearth away fans - I'd rather watch the football. I just want an undertaking from the club that gobby troublemakers attempting to spoil our enjoyment will be dealt with appropriately. I'm sure that I'm not the only one whose experiences of Manure fans leads them to believe that this could be an issue on Tuesday.

Yes!
Already hired my Gestapo uniform - SS now stands for "South Stand" - embroidered the SUFC badge on both sleeves to be easily recognisable as a real supporter, practiced my marching.
Just in the process of constructing a portable detention area with self contained cyanide canisters!
Slogan - " Root them out of Roots hall"

So, according to you, they are not allowed to celebrate a goal by their own team but must sit there in total silence just in case they offend you?

Yet it was perfectly alright for Southend fans to sit in the home areas at Leyton Orient a few years ago and celebrate when the Shrimpers scored?!

Yeah ...

I didn't see much segregation of fans when I watched CD Javea , but then I didn't see much football either.

Stop fishing Michael.

Anyone jumping up at the wrong moments will be in contravention of at least two ground regulations: (1) being in the wrong end and (2) standing.

If you break the rules you get chucked out.

IIRC the Orient controversy was more to do with heavyhanded stewarding and fights between supporters.

Heavyhanded stewarding? At Roots Hall?!

So the calls to "smack a Man Ure fan if he's in the home end" is not construed as a violent intention then?

No, the Orient controversy came from one idiot in the home end jumping up and down when Southend scored their second goal (to go ahead, after we were one-nil up IIRC). The few Southend fans in the home end had been both well-behaved and tolerated up until then. Said idiot then started giving the 'come-on' to the Orient fans, whilst the stewards looked on gormlessly without lifting a finger. Matters were then taken into hand by an equally-idiotic Orient fan and idiot Southend fan found himself at the bottom of some stairs, having started half way up.

So you recall incorrectly, HKB.

Yes, it is, however, any Manchester United follower, who is sitting in the home end and makes it obvious, should be ejected.

I doubt that Murkey Mouse would seriously thump a Man U follower, but he's got a point, in a roundabout way.

According to who? Certainly not me. As I've already said there's a way to behave in that situation and I won't be taking issue with anyone who behaves respectfully.

Sitting in the wrong end is against regulations and therefore only an idiot would make their presence known - if you object to that then take it up with the FA, not me.

There is one easy way to solve this, change the words to the worst football song ever and sing ''stand up if you hate Man U''. Appropriate action could then be taken.
