Quote[/b] (Rusty Lee @ Oct. 06 2004,18:09)]whats peoples views on the best Curry House in Southend, my vote goes to the Shagor on Hamlet Court Rd, would of been the Goulshan a cpl of year ago down Sutton Rd but the food seems a little bland there these days
Gulshan used to be top but I haven't been for a few years.

The Mumtaz Muhal in Benfleet (opposite the Anchor) is fantastic and seems to be packed every night of the week.

The Hasina in Eastwood is also very good.

If your female partner likes 'Chuck Berry' style toilets go to the Indian on Leigh Broadway!
Ill second what u say about the Mumtaz Muhal, thoroughly kind gents they are in the too

Dave

i would say either frankie and benys in the centre of town or 24 or the sea front just past the kursall very nice except all the chavs! hanging round outside!

Frankie and Benny's is one of the worst places I have ever had the misfortune to eat in.

The cocktails were OK though.

I hear that if you want to impress a bird in Perth, you should take her up the annalashmi. Is this correct?

I keep meaning to pop into MUMTAZ's. That Indian on Bread and Cheese Hill also gets my stomach juices going, I'm slightly worried that it's so close to the vets though as I believe those Urban myth stories regarding cats and things.........

Thought it best to resurrect an old thread instead of start a new one!

Birthday tomorrow and need to choose somewhere to go..... having been away for a while, I wondered where was good?!

I used to love Il Pescatore - is this place still as good as it used to be?

Went there last year and it was still pretty good... No idea of the quality more recently, though.

Andy, Happy Birthday first of all, and in answer to your question, it depends on what you want. The seafront restaurants - Sands, Toulouse and Fisherman's Wharf - are all pretty good; you can't beat the pies in the Pipe of Port or you could just head on into Old Leigh to the Peterboat for some excellent fish and chips! The casinos also both do very good meals but I'm not sure if you could just turn up.

I think Azzuros in Westclifff is reasonable value for money.

I second Toulouse, The small place right near the Palace theatre (used to be called the Players retreat) is good too.

Ocean Beach is good but a tad pretentious

I was very impressed recently with Cafe Ricicco (Sp?!) in Leigh. I'm usually more of a fan of eat as much as you like Chineses over 'fancy food' but they had some really nice upmarket dishes that you would expect to pay a fortune for, but actually had a set menu for less than £20 quid, and good friendly unrushed service.....

Rococco (I think) - we went there as a big group for Christmas and the food was excellent.

if your budget is unlimited I'd say the Sand Bar in Leigh Broadway. Other good ones in Leigh are Jasmine Garden in the Broadway or Simply Seafood in Old leigh, always find the Boatyard over-rated myself.

Can anybody suggest a decent veggie restaurants or a restaurant that has a reasonable veggie choice & does more than veggie lasagne?

Ta in advance.
