Death penalty - for or against

Bring back the death Penalty

You could tap into any number of budgets to find additional funds for the NHS, not least of all that being spent on a nuclear arsenal specifically designed to bring about death and destruction. You could put 1% on income tax, but the sad fact is that the average family would never stomach the idea of giving up their second cars to save (or at least prolong) lives.

QUOTE]

Exactly, I certainly don't want to contribute to locking up serious offenders (if money was being spent to irradicate the cause then thats another matter). So if murder is wrong, but 'restraint (ie imprisonment) is ok, if we dont want to have to fund the upkeep of these child killers etc, would it not be ok to just keep them locked up with nothing and let nature take its course...or what that be too cruel....? :)

But executing an innocent person while the guilty walks free is not any form of justice is it?

There seems to be two different arguments forming though, which would answer the seperate questions...

a) would you be in favour of the death penalty for someone who HAS committed a particularly obscene offence such as cold blooded murder (so taken out of the equation miscarriages etc)?

b) would you favour the return of the death penalty in this country for serious offences?

For me the answer to the a) is yes, and b) also yes, but I can understand peoples concerns about miscarriages.

Slightly off topic, but you got to think about, when people get banged up for life, does it really mean life for murder, or does it mean out in half of the 33 odd years for good behaviour?!

One American court banged up one bloke for murder for 2000 years, a few years ago with no probation period. Maybe we could have something like that over here. At least it will prevent the *******s getting out and doing it again.

But the do-gooders would fight their case.
As for death penalty not sure, although stronger sentances would help instead of the light-weight sentances we have today. Sentanced for murder or rape mean life without parole. People banned from driving means banned for good and no excuses for famous people. Also prision should mean hard times not single cells but 5-6 to a cell without TV's or Cd players and they should be made to work. Get them cleaning the streets and shores of this country. Also repeat a crime and its inside for a maximum sentance depending on the crime with a minimum sentance of 2 years.

At what cost to the tax payer....???
Ah human life of any form is worth more then the economy i see, well we could ensure the prision service is no profit making amybe ?

What if he escapes and does it again....??

Or she , try again , mind you lets assume their all known and we actually have a reliable system of releasling details to the police for their escape.

Though it should be pointed out that murders with the capacity to escape high security prisions are general ex special forces trained or fictional

No they wouldnt, look at it more like "if you kill someone, we will kill you"

So you are perfectly happy for the people who rule you to live by another set of rules to you? Do as i say not as i do.

I quite agree. Life should mean life. If a person receives the death sentance they are NOT suffering, it's over for them. If you keep them in prison for life, depriving them of their freedom you are punishing them.

Very good, but total rubbish. Who are you standing for, Criminals are us?

More "rubbish" than you drawing comparisons with speeding offences? I'm simply pointing out that killing innocent people is wrong (agree?) and that we shouldn't run the risk. Pretty straightforward really.

what's the opposite of a do-gooder? a do-bader? I'm curious as to why fighting the corner of humanism is a bad thing.

Becuase it means your not doing what people tell you to blindly and what to think... err i mean helping society cough

No but it will unavoidable on osme occassions, and of course extremely unfortunate for the person that gets it.

Sorry dont understand. If one of the rule makers killed unlawfully, then they would be subject to the death penalty.

When I did this with my Y10s they were REALLY against it, pleasantly suprising. After research their main arguements against it were:
- not many white middle class get death penalty - they can generally afford good lawers and *only* get life - it targets poor black people (in US certainly)
- it doesnt reduce the murder rate
- it creates further grief by destroying another family - big campaign about this in US - good video on youtube
- you might get it wrong
- if you take their life you are just as bad
- we have no human right to do it
- could be downward spiral with eventually petty criminals executed (I said this was a little far fetched but they argued well for it!)

I like those kids the futures save now :D

No I was trying to say the law is the law regardless of what offence is committed. If we abide by the law which is set by the people we elect to rule us, then regardless of what the crime is, we have to abide by it or pay the consequences.

Im sorry to call your post rubbish but I’m mega busy trying to work and trying to keep up with these two posts and maybe I should wait till I get home.

As a matter of interest and not a loaded question - What is the murder rate like in countries other than America that have the death penalty (Middle East etc).
