Flood was quoted saying "I wasnt bought by the manager" (or along those lines) and it appears he wasn't/isnt the only one. DM has obvious talent, but we didn't see much of it, although i feel he never got a good run of games and thus didnt get much of a chance to prove himself. As has been alluded to, its a worry this has happened so close to the start of the season, especially with such a threadbare squad and a lack of quality in the centre of the pitch, but Sturrock appears to giving it the "we lost the first 4 games at Plymouth and finished with 104 points" business so by this i hope he will have it all sorted by the end of the month but it seems a touch silly giving teams a few games head-start, in what is going to be a tough and tight division!!

What has Martin leaving got to do with lack of quality in the middle of the pitch ? We have enough wingers so letting one of them go isnt a shock.

So which chief Exec was this? Brady ? Or was this via Ron on the advice of his 'football consultant' ?
Seems very strange as we were of the understanding that according to Sturrock that he alone had the final say in all transfers.
Sturrock's problem last season was he never knew his best 11, too many changes cost us.

Brady apparently .. who also sourced that hopeless **** from Palace

He used to phone certain zoners and ask their opinion on players he'd heard were available

Good job he didn't phone OBL. We'd have McCormack back, Ryan Leonard as captain and Donny Osmond as half time entertainment.

well what a waste of money that was eh, we paid a fee for martin and now want to offload him for a fee or its more lost money down the drain:nope:

Which fills me even less confidence in the manager. I know Brady was revered by many but perhaps it can be seen he interfered where his nose did not belong. Further to that what kind of manager is Sturrock that he would let this happen and just go along with it? No principles? No balls? Or just someone who does not rock the boat fearing he may be in last chance saloon? Whatever the reason it is not what I call management.

Or that was the job description when he took it? Tilson didn't sign a good portion of his players either.

Perhaps its time cluniemore resurfaced and gave us assurances that are chronologically misgiven, spurious and pointless. They always make me feel better.

Surely with Hall looking like he'll be off as soon as we get a decent bid we'd be better off keeping Martin rather than playing the likes of Leonard and Straker out of position, Sturrock's never given Martin a chance, whether it was because he was signed by Brady or not, but he's definitely got the qulality to be playing in our side and it's ridiculous that we would transfer list him.

SShhhh! Beefy, you will have the Tilson-is-God brigade swallowing their dentures. Surely you are not suggesting that his supreme managerial successes may have been in some part down to the good eye of A N Other?

When is the right time to bring in a new player ?

Is it when someone gets injured?
Is it when someone gets stale and plays badly ?
Or is it before both of these so that we have cover when someone gets injured , and the competion for places means that the 1st choice does not get stale and oushes that much harder ?

Just becasue we don't play someone/ do not play them a lot does not necessaily mean that they were a pointelss purchase

Not happy about this at all.

Bad, bad move.

By my calculations, we have a squad of 20. Which includes Coughlan and Bentley and Belford (1 month)

7 of those are currently injured or not 100%

1 is looking for a move.

1 has been transfer listed.

And that does not include Bilel!

What a total ****ing disaster. How anyone can say otherwise is beyond me.

Why the hell do we need three left-wingers? In fact, he was 4th choice as Straker started ahead of him on Tuesday.

A squad of 20 is plenty. We can only play 11 at a time.

By my calculations we had 21 players on the books at this stage in 04/05 including three keepers, two kids who'd get two sub appearances between them all season (Lawson & Kightly), a guy with a broken leg (Pettefer) and three players (Broughton, Husbands & Corbett) on the way out.

20 players topped up with loanees is about right for a club our size. 30+ like last season was ridiculous.

Agreed. Ludicrous to have a bigger squad and will just result in unhappy players.

Well that explains some of the cack we signed then.

Wouldn't he have been better off phoning the manager?

You are correct from the time of Ron's due dillegence 'shadow squads' was introduced (after the promotions). Sadly our chairman doesnt understand how football works.
