The manager must know what he is doing (pass wide?? nooo long) and if Dave Martin was surplus to requirements..then so be it.

C'Mon You Shrimpers!!

No surprise, I heard this on Tuesday and alluded to it in another thread after the P'boro match about the "injury" being a cover story. Poor Dave Martin is the new Matt Paterson it seems. Shame, as I thought he definitely had something about him, certainly the ability to run with the ball past players.

Got more than enough talent for this league & if Im honest very disappointed to see made available. Others say he hasn't overly impressed, but he never really had a run of starting games & all players need that to perform.

I felt at the time he was being made a scapegoat for Stanleys equaliser last season & as the weeks went on that looked to be more & more the case. PS stuck by his faves, Gilbert, Barker when they were error after error, but Dave Martin makes a mistake & that's that for him.

Im a patient fella who doesn't jump on the Sturrock out bandwagon as soon as results go a bit wrong, but I'm starting to question his judgement on some signings now. I hope this comes back to bite me & the new boys get loads of goals between them, but come Christmas if were not well placed, well I might be looking for a bandwagon to jump on.

Both him and Benyon were poor signings in January and made little difference to the team. However I would ask is he any worse than Hurst? Leonard? I would hope that Brogan would come in as he sounds like he can play up top as well as out wide although priority must remain some quality in centre mid.

I am at home in Poland at the moment, it's a shame when I see this new, but it's clear we need quality midfielder, maybe I can ask my local club, Legia Warsaw if they have any central midfielder for SUFC lol

He certainly never looked streets ahead of Hall. Who else played wide last sesaon other than Mohsni ?

I always thought Martin was disappointing when I saw him.

Unfortunately Hall has had his head turned by agents it appears. And quite obviously you weren't at Braintree when Hall looked unfit and disinterested. Martin changed the game when he came on.

And if you always thought Martin looked disappointing when you saw him that's purely a matter of opinion. He really is one of the few players we have who is prepared to run at defenders and take them on. And how can you compare Martin with Mohsni ? Would you classify Mohsni as an out and out wide player ?

I just don't think Martin was given a chance and really could have proved an important player for us.

Plenty of options on the left ? Playing either a full back there or a central midfielder is a stop gap not an option.

Dissapointed by this news first thing in the day, with a paper thin squad as it is. If its tempered by a couple of signings later then fine, otherwise I am beginning to worry about what is going on at the club at the moment, and how not going up last season has seriously effected the finances.

Despite his pace and ability to beat his man now and then Martin always struck me as a bit of a wimp which is a trait you simply can't have in League 2.

Concerned by the Jam Man's assertions over not signing Brogan. Could this be because Stalybridge want a fee as far as I'm aware he's still contracted to them.

I can't imagine Dave Martin being on a wage even close to what Paterson was on.

Not bothered in the slightest. Seemed continuously prone to roaming up blind alleys....

Looks like it will be Hurst and Hall then......Not entirely impressed by the signing of Hurst, but I guess he has an opportunity to show us all what he's got.....

I was so excited when Dave Martin joined us , but what a massive dissappointment he was ,has quality in abundance , huge potential to play at least 2 divs above ours + has everything , except that vital ingrediant - Confidence. Has been in and out of teams for 3 seasons + never looked comfortable in our system + just as he was playing well he was made scapegoat for ducking out of that corner.

But we've got too many wingers so best for the lad he goes. Hurst has a touch of the Mark Gowers about him , Leonard needs to play wide and not central , Hall ( while he is still here ) needs to play just off the front man .

and Tomlin can also play on the wing, all of these would probably have got a look in there before Martin.

Shame as to me he could be a decent player. Never going to get in at left wing with Hally there. Seems to have a decent left foot.

I'm sure he wouldn't have been put on the list if Sturrock thought Hall was going. That's encouraging, isn't it?

Not surprised. We will sign Spicer and PS has clearly decided to invest the funds in CM (rightly based on evidence so far).
By not sighning Brogan and off loading Martin both wingers it frees up funds for a central midfielder at or at the top of our wage structure. A quality CM alongside Spicer/Timlin/Ferdinand will probably make the biggest single difference. So watch this space I guess..

I started to get suspicious about a number of signings last term that cost us wages, some small, and were never given a shake of the stick. Dave Martin, Anto Flood, Benyon, Sawyer, Baldwin and Johnson. Not to mention N'Diaye or the pointless Sampson. In a season when we were chasing promotion and needed a few to come in to relieve the squad and give us that lift across the line we ended up with mistakes or players not yet ready to slot in. I am not saying they were bad players but they were signed and subsequently overlooked. Some serious gaffs from the gaffer I fear. I certainly hope if we are up top this term and need reinforcements the choices will be better. Kalala too has bitten the dust and I will never understand the desperation of signing Dailly unless he played for free. I am sure he had nous but there were so many other, younger and better investments to procure.
