Will Daniel Bentley go in this transfer window?

Really think in this situation R M was damned if he sold and damned if he didn't. Daniel might be frustrated but if he is a fan as he says he will understand that he could never be as frustrated as the average fan with this situation. The crys of anguish if RM had sold would have filled these boards for weeks so we have kept him and the the doom merchants are still filling the boards. Really don't think a few more months will do Daniel any harm at all where as sitting on the bench at a championship club would have. Both parties need to sit down and talk sensibly about this and why won't he extend if it has a get out clause. Will probably get shot down but feel that is petty. Sign the clause give us your best until at the least January and then go with our blessing.

Personally before we got bids in I thought 1 million was a decent amount, but when we had bids of that then higher then you understand why we held out for more.

The other factor is 1.25m could have been made up of very little up front cash, so if we were only going to get a couple of hundred thousand up front then it wouldnt have helped us anyway.

Without hindsight or knowing what the actual bid was its unfair to criticise them for not accepting it.

I'd rather watch Bentley play in goal for us this season than having a year where RM doesn't need to bankroll us. If RM is happy for that too, what is the problem?

The club have been foolish IMO.

Bents owes us/club nothing,so good luck Dan whenever you leave.
How have we been foolish?

Ron and the SUFC hierarchy have obviously valued us staying in the division is worth more than £1.25m

Which, let's face it. The way QPR chuck money around it was a **** in the ocean offer.

For me, keeping Dan Bentley at the Football Club gives us our best chance of League One success, whether that is survival, mid-table security or an outside chance of promotion.

Whatever RM did with Bentley this Summer, someone would have critised him. Had we sold him for £1.25m people would have been in uproar demanding more, had we sold him for £5m, someone still would have moaned.

I doubt he'll leave in January as I don't think we will receive respectable amounts for him, so we run the risk with the tribunal.

One thing is for sure, Dan Bentley has handled himself with dignity and maturity especially when you look at Berahino at West Brom.

When Bentley gets his move, he will have deserved it. I just hope he gets it right. IF he does, he'll play for England and in the Premiership. Smithies, who went to QPR was just as highly rated as Bentley and got his move to Everton all wrong. I think QPR would have been a very good move, so can understand his frustrations, but I know from my dealings with him, he is a man of his word and is extremely proud to play for Southend. He will not let us down between now and whenever he leaves.

He is an absolute gent. He turned up at my charity football match, along with John White, a week before Wembley and the biggest game of his career and had time for everyone.

Bents is good but not superman,we will stay up if we have a player who scores 20 whilst another guy chips in with 15.

1.25 mill would have paid for another decent forward leaving plenty of change for a couple more defenders and another keeper.

Ron does stuff for Ron.

Lol, if we had that we will get promoted not stay up. Even selling at 1.25m you are pushing it to be able to buy a 20 goal striker.

If we got 1.25 million we would have got it in installments, we dont know how the deal was structured.

Izale would have been wages only so I reckon £200,000 for him still leaves a mill(assuming it was cash up front)

If Bents has 40 games left at the club, every time he plays the club have kissed goodbye to 30k plus add ons.

Izale went for a fee.

We wouldnt have got cash up front, transfers rarely are, normally installments, and who knows if that amount included add ons.

Both QPR and Hull had their parachute payment,so hardly looking for loose change.

Clearly we have no need to pay off debt, or no intention of doing it. The chances to take around £1m don't come up too often (about once a decade by my reckoning). The fact that we haven't grabbed it with both hands is strange for me.

Exactly !

The fans are constantly reminded that this club loses millions,we are broke skint destitute, yet we can turn down large transfer fees.

THat hasnt been confirmed and no its unlikely they wiped the debt. Even if they did our debts are far in excess of what we owe them.

This is all in teh accounts, if you choose not to believe it thats down to you, but we are in debt, thats not in doubt

Back on topic.....

Fair play to him. He knows what Ron is like so it's best for him at this currrent time to reject the contract.

One thing is for sure, he goes with everyones blessing (once he finally does go).
