Crap atmosphere...

i didnt sing much today as like most was trying to keep warm, and any time i did sing along the atmosphere flew right out the ground.

but i must be a bad fan, even though i spent over an hour in the cold selling blues monthly for the club on my day off!!!
Poor you steve. I was singing know and then but i was more concerned that i was going to freeze to death. With there being no roof and the weather being a joke there was no way we were ever going to get such a good atmosphere. I think its the coldest away game ive ever been to, maybe apart from grimsby. A bit off topic but did any one see the young lad off who took off his coat and shirt off for 5 minutes beginning of 2nd half. Think he must of been on drugs......

We soud have taken advantage of the wind in the first half and shouldve really been 3-0 before they scored their first. Got to say ive never felt so cold in my life! That wind just went straight through the stand, which contributed heavily to the atmosphere. Heads up though, we are still 6 clear and the games are running out
Spot on, the managers instructions
should have been, caution to the wind, get 4 up before half time but this is nervous Nerys Steve Tilson we are talking about!

What a stupid statement to make!

Because you went to Hartlepool to sing, makes you a better fan than me does it?

Idiot.
Yep. Much better! Bradford? Huddersfield? Tranmere? No, didnt think so!
f%&king weasle!

Listen you t%$&*r, I didn't even go today....gonna claim I'm not a real fan? Probably in your sad little world I'm not.

However I've had seasons of going every game home and away and travelled to Italy to watch us in the Anglo-Italian Cup. I don't though think that makes me an exceptional super fan - merely that I was in a situation (no responsibilites, totally disposable income) to do that. My circumstances are different now, hence why I wasn't there today - making me one of I'm sure many other fans who can't make all the games anymore but are no less passionate about the club than you are.

When (if) you grow up and get a real grown-up life you may begin to appreciate that...then you can pass comment on the merit or otherwise of other fans. Untill then just shut the f%&k up!
Ok. Really sorry. Won't happen again. Till next time...

For me, there was a couple of things that summed up today's game:

First half, it was, 'Stand up if you love Southend!'

Second half, it was, 'Stand up if you're freezing cold!'

Today wasn't great on all fronts. What I will remember, though is the look on Efe Sodje's face when the second goal went in. He just looked at the crowd as to say, 'Sorry' even though he worked his socks off today.

we are top of the table looking good for the championship and people are moaning about taking a big away following because they all dont stand up and sing..........bring back 115 at hartlepool? get a grip.

agreed.

Today seemed to be one of those days where it just wasn't going to happen.

Even though I think MK today was one of the coldest places I've ever been to (that wind was F*****G cold, even with the sun out- was the first game I've shiverred at for a while) there was singing ( just depended on where you were sitting) and there was passion in the team, although it didn't materialise in the result.

WE ARE STILL TOP OF THE LEAGUE! Roll on Hartlepool!

First time in the North East was it.

We all know the atmosphere at our games this season is somehow worse than at the same stage last season.

I am quite suprised by the amount of people that post on here that do not get behind the team at matches.  I'm not saying you are not loyal supporters etc.  But we have had direct pleas from Ron Martin, Tilson, Goater, Maher & probably some others to get behind the team not only in numbers but with vocal support.

I can understand that some fans might have a reason not to sing especially with the stupid "stand up" chant but do they really sit there in silence and watch the whole match without even shouting any form of encouragement.  This is football we are talking about not crown green bowling!!!

The fact that at most games now the people that want to sing and the ones that don't are all spead about. Gone are the days of all being together, so the quiet people and the noisy people have somehow got to try and get along with each other.

As has already been stated the atmosphere at all our remaining away games is going to be 10 times better than yesterday.  Lets all try and get behind the team both at home and away.

The answer might be for the club to try and generate an atmosphere by making sure that those who want to be in a singing section are sold tickets for the same area, particularly at those away games which are going to be all-ticket. I'm not sure how feasible this would be but surely if the game has been designated all-ticket then it suggests that both clubs are confident of Southend fans selling their whole allocation. It can't be that difficult to split the tickets into two sections?

Good idea. A bit more complicated now as tickets go on sale to Season Ticket holders first, due to our increased away support.

Don't think it will be much of a problem at our remaining away games the roof at these grounds will help. Apart from those of you who will be in the open at Bournemouth.

If Benno actually had a decent first touch we would have got 2 goals in a 2 minutes and would have cruised to victory! Also if Marky G stopped faffing about and stopped trying to walk the ball into the net, we would have been 3 up and game over.

C'est la vie ...

I can't comment on yesterday as I wasn't there but from other games I've been to it certainly isn't the case that people just sit and watch the game without shouting any encouragement.

The vast majority of fans, especially those commited enough to go away, shout and support the team plenty. However in the eyes of the 'Stand Up If You Love Southend' brigade unless they shout themselves hoarse for the whole ninety minutes and stand or jump up and down for the whole game they are not getting behind the team.

However I've probably been guilty a little of that in my 'youth' and as I have said on here before the young (and in some cases not so young) bucks who do go to every game are pretty much the lifeblood of the club. However they need to stop and think sometimes that many of the people they moan about were once exactly like them. They also need to realise that one day they will have changed sufficiently where they will no longer be the die-hard every game a season boys and the boot will be firmly on the other foot. It's called growing up!

SOTW = t%$&*r for his comments, the club is enjoying its best support for years and all you can do is moan about who went to Hartlepool well I f%&king did but I dont go running round town telling everybody i was 1 of 115, I was there not just because I wanted to be there BUT BECAUSE I COULD! some people on here I know would love to do every game of the season, but people have other commitments in there lives, new born children, familes, jobs, BLOODY MORGAGES!
Just think before you post to question peoples support!

Why the multitude of posts on this thread? Our away support is usually MAGNIFICENT for support generated - the lack of atmos yesterday was down to one thing and one thing only.....the conditions. That's the coldest I've EVER been at a Blues match in 19 years and the atmosphere didn't surprise me one little bit. Notice the only chanting was from the Dons fans at the opposite end. The reason? They had a low(ish) roof that must have kept them a hell-of-a-lot warmer than any on the other 3 sides of the stadium. To be honest in the end I'm ashamed to say I was happy for the ref to blow as I couldn't wait to get back to the car!

I care just as much as you about the team SOTW, I follow them most places, whenever I can get there. I actually cried a little after yesterday's game. Still, you decided to tell me to get lost because i do not sing much? GET A LIFE YOU JOKE. Not everybody likes a sing song.

never went but could hear the Southend fans a few times on the Radio and was quite loud to be honest... must admit im a singer but when Im freezing cold not sure if I would fancy singing all the time...

come on lads bad day at the office yesterday... 5 Home games to go at our nice/cosy/all covered Roots Hall to make the difference... The Boys NOW need our 100 % support

If u dont like to sing.. Just make some noise like banging your feet on the floor.....

One Team IN Essex

SOUTHEND UNITED FC

As a neutral, it is clear to me that SOTW is a very young man who annoys most people, but as the expert of away games surely he could have worked out that yesterday was never going to be great? If you do your homework on away grounds, MK was never the place to be. No tradition, open stadium, MK as a place, etc.

Obvious.

Milton Keynes is ash!thole, the ground is a sh!thole. I can only remember one other occasion where I have felt colder at a game than yesterday (Crewe in January years ago).

Anyway f%&k it, three points on Saturday and we will be back on track!
