4 tickets bought, only took my season card details........the other three are actually for season card holders but they could have been for anybody.

Chaps (and ladies),

As well as being the club's Media Manager, I am also the U's Supporters Liaison Officer, so am happy to help with enquiries.

Also, if anyone is after a message on the big screen on the day of the game (birthdays, first away games for kids etc), then please also drop me a line on matt.hudson@colchesterunited.net.

With the various parts of my job, I am unlikely to be able to keep checking back to this thread, so please do email if there's anything I can help with.

Cheers and see you on Boxing Day!

I hope there will be plently of tickets left for non season ticket holders. I really would like 3. Im hoping to surprise my cousin on boxing day morning to say we are going. Fingers crossed there will be some left!

I may need a favour from a friend if tickets sell out quickly. Arrive back in the UK 14 Dec

there are 3 reasons for this. firstly is that boxing day games always attract a bigger crowd at colchester regardless of opposition. 2nd is that with advance ticket prices being so reasonable and most people going to the game knowing they will be off well in advance that they might as well take advantage of the prices. 3rd and probably the biggest factor is that the 2 clubs havent played each other for 5 years or so.

I agree with your last point about the fact that we both havent (sadly) met in years being a major factor for a boost in ticket sales for this fixture.

However, alot of fans both SUFC & CUFC are away to visit families far and wide during the Christmas break, added to that "festive" public transportation issues or other commitments etc, so that would take a small cut in ticket sales.

Furthermore, If all the Colchester home tickets went on sale as stated at the begining of the season, given the amount of time in advance to buy tickets... why was the ground attendances at Colchester's stadium (including away fans)... as follows:

2,706 V Reading (ex premiership)
2,785 V Port vale (your 2nd last home game?)
2,917 V Oldham

With the above in mind, and without sounding like im repeating myself (or others for that fact).. That surely, you must see that we find it difficult to believe that 5,000 home end tickets have been sold already, especially so long before the game.

All being said, the larger the crowd, will make for a better atmosphere on the day.

I think the gate will be between 9K and 10K lots of factors come into play to make this probably our highest crowd of the season, it will be interesting to see as the day draws nearer how many tickets are claimed to be left to sell. It is great for both clubs that this game is stimulating such interest already, the way we play this season is very open and exciting if you play the same way too (Unlikely with defence minded Brown in charge) it will be one hell of a game.

Just phoned up and got tickets in about 2 mins, took longer to get the tickets for the Brizzel Rovers game the other week..

There are few reasons but for those matches in particular being midweek was a massive factor - our family enclosure (East Stand Blocks 7 & 8 - a total of around 900 tickets) is normally very busy - helped in part by very cheap tickets for U11's in particular - for evening games these are always very empty - largely because many parents simply don't want their kids not getting home until around 10pm on a school night, aside from that (like Southend) Colchester is becoming a commuter town which means that more and more people take longer to get home in the evenings - our attendances (which are bad enough on weekends!) are much worse for mid-week games.

As for Boxing day I think it will be at least 8.5k and I strongly suspect you won't get any additional tickets (assuming you shift the 2000 and request more) - As others have said a few factors being that many we've not played in a few years, our results at home have significantly improved this season along with the performances, it's on Boxing day, very few people at work, very few places to go (other than football).

I had a quick look at the on-line sales and I'd say 5000 home sales isn't far off the mark at all- taking into account seats sold/availabe then adding in hospitality/boxes which aren't shown on line (I think we have about 25 boxes that seat between 10 and 20 people plus about 400+ seats in the central West Stand) it looks about there (my guesstimate would have been about 4500 but obviously can't see all of the sales. We will easily shift another 1.5-2k in further advance sales and pay-on-the day as word spreads about the popular blocks getting close to selling out.

Will certainly be a decent atmosphere although unfortunately there is no sand for barrett to play on this time!

I don't know if this has been said before, if they have sold that many it bucks the trend of the last few seasons where the most they've got over Xmas & New Year is around 6,000 for Charlton & 5,000 for Stevenage.

But most if not all Football League clubs show an increase in crowds over the Christmas break. We have always had higher than average crowds over Christmas and I expect Colchester do as well.

Lots of the younger Col U fans are home from Uni at that time and squeeze in a couple of home games before they go back, although we have a big Uni population in Colchester anyway I don't think many come to watch us during term times. Also lots of amatuer local players who normally play on a Saturday won't have a game that day so tend to come and watch Col U when they are free.

Crickey guys, there's been an awful lot of gonad comparison going on in this thread. Even though it is the first proper Essex derby for years I doubt that (a) the ground will be completely full, and (b) we will take more than 2000. Either way it doesn't really matter. The only things that really matter are that we are going head to head again and we have proof positive that there is more than one Col Ewe fan, as proven by this thread. So at the absolute worse there will be 2002 fans in the Stadium on boxing day. Bring it on I say.

I wonder how many we have sold so far? There will be a mad rush for general sale if tehre are limited tickets left. I will be one of them making a mad dash for them next thursday!

Just a quick question, do the rumoured 5,000 fans that attend for them go down as Col U or Ipswich fans?
