Where to park is the problem. Their car park was fully booked before our tickets went on sale. Last time we played there it took me an hour and a half to get out of the car park in any event. Surely the police could relax the parking around that estate on Boxing Day as no businesses will be open? The town centre car parks will be rammed with sales shoppers I expect. Any sensible suggestions otherwise I'll have to drive to RH and park car there and get coach even though its easier for me to drive there direct.

I'd say getting a ticket for most is a problem. Parking issues would be a welcome distraction

Am I the only one that think's that just an additional 556 tickets is pretty bad form from Col Utd, given our demand for away tickets (Granted I might be a little bit biased).

Also i would like some clarification as to our initial allocation? was it 2,000 as was originally stated at the beginning of the thread? or was it 1,700 (as stated in tonights Echo?)

If it was 2,000 + the 556 released, obviously means we have only been allocated 2,556 tickets
Or
If as the Echo stated, it was 1,700 + the 556 means our allocation is even worse at just 2,256.

Yet (as mentioned before) there is room for 2,900 away fans at the C H Stadium.
This means there is still a gap of additional tickets (even after the lousy 566 given to us) of between 644 to 344 tickets, still possible.

In closing, I can only think that the lack of selling such a small extra allocation of tickets, can only mean more hassle for the home team, forcing SUFC supporters into home ends, and making more hassle for the police & stewards in terms of managing the game from a H&S point of view.

Cheers Eddy,
May I take this opportunity to thank you personally, for your very much detailed response to my question about ticket sales. :hilarious:

Isnt there a park and ride just the other side of the A12?

The P&R won't be operational on Boxing Day but it was confirmed a while ago that the car park would be open for people going to the football. Alternatively, you can park at the train station for a couple of quid and get the shuttle bus from across the road. People make out that it's impossible to get to their ground but it really isn't. Only problem being there are no pubs near the ground so if you're looking for a drink beforehand, the station would be your best bet as there are a few pubs nearby but doubt they'll be letting us in. Worth a try nonetheless.

I believe both Preston and Leeds were allocated over 3,000 tickets in the past. Whilst a 25% allocation is fair and reasonable, it does beg the question of how many Col Ewe fans will turn up on the day?

To me it's a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face.....bums in seats = money.

As I mentioned earlier, it would've been a lovely pressie from Santa if Colchester decided to "do a Morecambe;" as the demand is there and visible for all to see.

If they decide to stick to their guns, already Shrimpers are planning to get tickets scattered around the ground which could cause stewards/police all sorts of bother....:headbang:

It's all speculation our end because we don't know how many they've sold! If they are expecting to sell a lot then they're hardly going to give up more to us, are they?

Does anybody know if the general sale tickets are only going to be available in person at the ticket office?

With the way the stands are configerated now the absolute max we could offer to away fans is circa 2900 but that would be with a very small "nuetral" area of covering over a small section of one block - clearly that wouldn't be deemed sufficient for a derby match.

As for the clubs decision - most of our fans wouldn't want you to be given more than the North Stand for this match even if would leave a 2 or 3 blocks empty, personally I'm suprised they've given an extra allocation to you at all given the home sales but there we go. Reckon you've been given E1 and part of E2, E3 will be for segregation and potentially they will steward it so that E4 can be for home fans with access via E5.

Word of warning on purchasing tickets in home ends - the club have in the past (primarily against Norwich) identified tickets purchased in advance for non Col-U fans and cancelled them in advance of the match (or refused entry/ejected fans on the day) - I can see both sides to be honest - an odd couple of fans sitting in with home fans not causing any issue when either team score shouldn't be a problem for anyone - but idiots turning up with colours or then reacting to the game in provocotive manner can cause problems. Entirely up to you but if you try, stick to the West Stand (tends to be more corporate and more of the older fans), it's more expensive that the South but if you did get a ticket in there and played up in any way there would be a strong chance of issues.

Good, fair question. However I know of season ticket holders who hadn't been able to buy tickets in the initial sale so possibly this next lot might not make general sale?

You may be right, but the more I think about it, us selling 500 in 1 day sounds unlikely. Even if there's only 100 left for tomorrow, if it's a case of getting down to the ticket office at the crack of dawn then I can do it as I'm up at that time anyway.

When Leeds came to town they knew the demand would be huge so they gave them all of the East stand (All season ticket holders were moved) to keep them segregated from the home fans, it didn't really work because they filled that and several hundred more were in the home areas and there was some trouble. If your club had asked for 3000 seats some time ago maybe something like that could have been done for you folks, but the catch is the club would want some form of gaurantee that in the event of any unsold seats they would be paid for by Southend United. Some Col U fans are already saying if they spot any away fans in the home areas they will report them to stewards and ask for them to be kicked out.

Is there any criteria for buying tickets in the home areas, proof of previous purchase etc?

Generally no, for this game I presume that they'll sell to be people only on the database (running for many, many years) and for new purchasers I presume they'll attempt to validate (in some way) that the purchaser is indeed a "home supporter" (several ways you can do that and not just by postcode provided) - depends on a few factors but if they suddenly get a lot of people trying to buy tickets in certain blocks that have no previous history of purchase they may well be suspicious!!

This was on the Southend official site yesterday:-

- Any Southend fans found to be buying tickets in the home areas will have their tickets cancelled.

- Further to this, any first time purchases appearing on the Colchester United ticketing system – including Print @ Home transactions – will be checked and validated, and may be cancelled should they be found to be Southend United supporters.

- Any Southend fans found in the home areas of the U’s stadium on the day of the match will be ejected from the stadium without re-entry in away areas.
