Breaking News Charley Kendall Signs

Maher’s issue is not about shooting from distance it’s about not shooting when you don’t have a clear shot on goal.

There’s nothing wrong shooting in those instances above. Defenders stood off and let him get a shot away.

What you don’t want to do is have a shot that is easily blocked and the ball rebounds behind you and the opposition break. In those circumstances the opposition is way more likely to score than you.

But people yell shoot when if the player pulls his foot back their marker will just step up and block it.

Anyway, I’m interested to see what he brings to the pressing game. We’ve won little ball up top with a half fit Bonne. If he can add some energy up there and harass defenders into mistakes I think we’ll be more of a threat on the break and that will make us appear to be playing on the front foot more.

The main difference between this season and last season has been the lack of an effective press IMO. I want some more energy up front.
Spot on. We do miss the Handsome One and his non-stop pressing.

Ah well.

Matt Dennis wasn’t a target man and didn’t really create from nothing and he flourished under Maherball.
If I remember correctly Dennis was signed by Brown but didn't get much of a look in until Maher took over and then had a rich vein of scoring opportunistic goals for a brief spell before going off the boil. Maybe his goalscoring instincts were blunted by the way he was coached after a while but he fizzled out somewhat

I am pleased that we have boosted our options up front with someone that we have been looking at for some time and who was mentioned several times in the Commentary on the game at Woking as causing problems and being a handful to play against. I am going to watch his progress with interest as I have all our players over my 60 plus years of supporting and I will rate him or otherwise on the basis of evidence of watching him play a number of games within our team and not dismiss him as inadequate before he has even set foot on a pitch in our shirt.
There are a group of posters, many of whom have now contributed to this thread, for whom anything that the Club does is no good, not enough or in some other way doesn't meet their over inflated, unrealistic expectations. Great to see them welcoming a new arrival so wholeheartedly and supportively.

The negativity and pessimisimism surrounding this signing comes from the massive underachieviment this season has been so far. All the goodwill and excitement of a new dawn under new owners, with a team that, last year only missed out on the playoffs because of a 10 point deduction, just floundering around lower midtable playing a brand of football that is one of the worst in the league.

A team out budget and squad is just wholly unacceptable. Most of us have had to endure over a decade of decline , we shouldn't just sit back and passively accept it.

If Charley turns our a good signing, brilliant, I'll be delighted, but my fears are with the way Maher plays, unless he can be a target man or create from nothing, he will struggle.

Not you though because you don't go to games. Try showing a bit of support just one in every ten posts:Thumbs up:

I’m delighted with finally got our man, someone we’ve been after for a while. We had a bid rejected in the summer (impossible as COSU aren’t providing funds for on the pitch stuff according to some) for him too, so has been long admired by our management team.

I’ve mentioned Charley as someone I’d be keen to bring in to a number of posters over the years, I’m sure the likes of @londonshrimper. @Medway Blue & @henry18 can back that up for starters.

What he will bring is an energy, someone to put us on the front foot with our press, which was so effective with Cards and Powell. Kanu was another who really brought into that high press.

He scores all types of goals too. He has scored the screamers, which have been circulating online, but he also scores from between the posts, in the six yard box, where some strikers don’t seem to like going. Slide him through and he can score, and he can score with his head too.

Really hoping Kendall’s introduction is a bit of a spring board and his energy is infectious to the others once again.

Welcome aboard Charley, and having read some stuff on here today and yesterday, I hope you’ve got thick skin too.

Ironic that yesterday, some posters said that COSU are only doing the off the field stuff and not focusing on the pitch, the same day as we agreed a fee for a top target…

When don't I go to games, I go to between 8-10 games a season, if I lived within a commutable distance I would go every game. All the ones I don't see live, I see on stream - so I don't see that how not being their in the flesh would mean I am unable to see things as they are. Its an uncomfortable truth.

5ft 10" is hardly imposing. I thought we were looking for big CF.

Wish him all the luck if he doesn't score first game!!

Great post BW. What I like about Kendall from what has been said is he is pacey and likes to press high. This something we havnt had since Cardwell left and part of the so called Maherball process. We are a much better side when pressing higher up the pitch and pushing the opponent back towards their own goal. People moan that we don’t make a signing and then moan when we do. Just read what the Woking fans are saying about losing him. They are gutted as much as we were when Harry left. Not seen one bad word said about him. He will be wearing our shirt so let’s get behind the lad

If this has been said I apologise, and I may get shot down, but to me this is a bit of an underwhelming signing, a club lower than us in the league and happy to get rid because they got another striker in recently, il happily hold my hands up if I'm wrong, but the more if these signings we are making the more of a non league club we will be, surely we should be signing players above or from a higher level

Cardwell. Noor. Kensdale. Gus. Crowther. Morton.. to name a few all from lower levels... Don't think some of them have done bad. Look at who we have got from higher level .Bonne. Walker. Moncur. Not exactly set the world alight have they?

No they haven't done that bad at all, but they haven't got us out of the league have they, which is surely what we should be aspiring too? I'm not slagging the guy off and like I said I hope I'm wrong and will happily admit that

Woking Football Club can confirm that Charley Kendall is joining National League side Southend United for an undisclosed fee.

The former Lincoln City player, who over the past two seasons has had loan spells at Eastbourne Borough, Sutton United, Bromley, as well as Dagenham and Redbridge before signing with Woking in January of this year.

The forward went on to make 36 appearances for the Cardinals.

"We appreciate Charley’s contributions to the club over the past year," said Jody Brown, Director of Football at Woking FC.

"Charley has been asking for a transfer for some time, but due to the ownership situation, that wasn't possible." Brown said.

"At the same time, we are heading in a new direction and need players who are fully committed to our project, so ultimately a mutual decision was made to accept the offer."

“We wish Charley the best of luck in his future.”

Imo highlight reels, goalscoring records etc mean nothing where strikers are concerned, they tend to either click with the squad, and the fans and score goals, or it just doesnt work.

Weve signed plenty who have been **** for us and thrived elsewhere, and plenty of "who the f is that nomake like freddy, stan, corr etc.

Lets hope it goes well. He only has to score once and hes ahead of bonne 😙
