I'm not close enough to the club to know who is responsible (Brown/Martin) but the stark reality is the current squad is inferior (in terms of both quality and quantity) to the squad that finished in a play off position in L2. I'm not sure that too many people on here would disagree with that. So I guess how the hell does anybody expect that we should be beating all before us in L1? Added to the fact we've lost (and not satisfactorily replaced) the quality of the likes of Bentley, Payne, Worrall and Corr we have a former inspirational club captain and legend who, with the best will in the world, is now past his sell by date (for this level of competition anyway.)
True there have been a few signings who will need time and in Simon Cox a top striker imo who, once we can provide him with the right kind of service, will score goals. There is clearly bags of potential with Nile Ranger (if we can keep him fit and motivated) and ditto the signing of Ferdinand yesterday that could prove a real coup. We have never seen the best of Wordsworth and again if he can get himself on the pitch (regularly) as well as Timlin, the midfield has an immediate and altogether more experienced look about it. All of a sudden players like Coker, Demetriou and Leonard will look like the players we know they are if all these other guys are available, believe me.
True, this may all only add up to mid-table at best unless the club bring in another proven striker (hopefully Simpson) and somebody imo of the likes of Peter Butler or Keith Jones who can own the midfield. But if that does happen in conjunction with getting everyone fit I do firmly believe it could still be a successful season. I don't think a change of manager makes any sense on any level until you first resolve all/many of the issues above and then re-appraise the situation after 8-10 games.

I totally agree with this. I suggest that all those calling for Brown to be sacked read this and try and understand when this seasons performances should be judged. How many of you listened to his interview after the match? I for one did and BELEIVE that he has faced challenges in the transfer market and on the injury front which is not helping his cause.

I not enjoying this as much as the next person. But the club shouldn't react like other teams have in the past with a knee jerk managerial decision based on fans opinion and 5 games.

Whilst I love to see us win, it is the manner of the performances that is unacceptable with the lack of effort and lack of direction. We will always lose a fair share of games but it is the the lack of any 'game plan' that upsets me most and the fact that the players don't appear to be committed to the cause.

Ultimately that is down to the Management Team. At minimum why don't we get Horton off the wage role and invest that money on the pitch?

How comes it's only PB that has faced challenges in the transfer market? Other managers have seemed to get in the players they want. Don't blame funds, RM etc as Cox and Ferdinand don't come cheap

Maybe they have heard the crowd get on the back if not shown world class skills within five minutes, the ground is third world and no sign of improvements, they believe in the manager but feel he could be shown the door any minute
Oh on a certain supporters board, there are posters willing to down grade them if not a hit on FIFA 2017

Just a thought on why

Don't twist what people are saying. No one is saying we should be beating everyone. Everyone is complaining about the PERFORMANCE. Regardless of us good the players are a good manager gets the best out of what he has. With regard to injuries,do we have more injuries than other sides? Brown has said that as ranger has missed pre season he will get injured from time to time and will not last the season. What does it say about us when we are putting all our faith in one player who has played 1/4 of one game that most of us didn't even see?

I think it goes back to the Bolton fiasco he showed no loyalty to the club what so ever obviously don't want to be here the players we've got are good enough to hold there own in this league prime reason for unrest solkik has his best game then gets dropped

Behind the scenes he's always been to honest for his own good. He kept saying he was not going to Bolton, which despite people having him hung, drawn and quartered over it, he was telling the truth. He has also said that yes, he would walk to Sunderland for that managerial job. And yes, he would have liked to have been part of the England set up. So you can have a go about Sunderland and England, but not about Bolton.

The Bolton saga for whatever reason seems to the beginning of our demise and poor form. His statements on various subjects in the local media certainly have not done him any good whatsoever. Headlines similar to 'I will be here to the end of the season', ' I expect to be here next season' and 'I am staying' have not done him any favours.

These statements may of been taken out of context but they certainly do not do him any favours with our supporters.

We're a Frankenstein's Monster of a football club; a soulless entity comprising odds and sods recklessly stitched together by a madman, chucked into the outside world with no direction or identity.

That Sir, is the most accurate description of our beloved football club I have read in decades!

I'm not twisting what 'people' are saying. Whoever 'people' are. I'm just pointing out the current situation that is there for all to see i.e. club is cash strapped, injuries to key players, small squad, reduction in quality (i.e. Bentley vs. Oxley).

I am of the view that as a result of the above we are going to seriously struggle this season unless they are addressed quickly and that a change of manager is not going to better facilitate that. In fact it is my opinion that the team is so poor at the moment (having to play the likes of Barrett, Williams, Bridge, O'Neill (as a winger) and the boy from Swansea being evidence of that) PB may well be getting the best out of what he has at his disposal!

Is anyone seriously saying that sacking PB and bringing in AN Other (who by definition has probably failed somewhere else - most out of work managers have) is going to be the catalyst for turning our season around - and in the short term getting players such as those I have listed above playing 40-50% better? I think at this stage what you get from those players is where they are in their careers - either at the beginning or the end and that they are frankly out of their depth in League 1 (albeit for different reasons.) None of them would be playing (some wouldn't even make the subs bench) if PB had all his players available - and yet four of those five were in the First XI yesterday afternoon.

PB does talk a load of nonsense sometimes and can be terribly self-absorbed - HOWEVER on judging him and the team I do not think he is being unfair asking the fans to keep their powder dry for a little while yet. We aren't even in September.

We have basically lost two decent players (Bentley and Payne) and brought in the likes of Cox, Ranger and Ferdinand on (one can only assume) relatively sizeable wages - are you seriously telling me that PB is getting the best out of what is a squad which hasn't changed much from last season?
It was abundantly clear to me yesterday, that the players had both stopped playing for Brown, and notwithstanding this, didn't have a clue what they were meant to be doing - it has been many years since I have seen such predictable, aimless build up play, coupled with making identical mistakes at the back and up top every single week.
Perhaps if Brown spent less time whoring himself out on Talksport of a midweek morning, and looking for these players he should have brought in during the close season, then we wouldn't be in this predicament, but I prefer to think that he is riddled with limitations, and has taken us as far as he can/will.

It's clearly not working under Brown, and it got me thinking. I just wondered, how much input do the players have, if any. Can or do players speak to the manager and say that things aren't quite right and suggest ideas and changes?

So does the performances by the players justify a "Brown Out" protest? What about a Barrett or Mooney or Coker Out protest.?Cos they are certainly not performing to the standards that the fans should expect so far this season

I simply cannot believe our so-called supporters sometimes. My suggestion is don't protest just keep away and leave those who can give positive support to the manager and players to do so.

5 games in and you want to hold demos and protest? Really?

Once the window is shut and we have a 2-3 more in, when we have Ranger, Tims and Wordsworth back, then I think performances will pick up and we will have a good season. Of course this is the fear really I guess and why there is a desperation for the protest now? Because the opportunity will be fleeting..

With supporters like ours we don't need an away end do we.. appalling..

I have listened to many morning shows with Phil Brown on it and the "whoring himself" statement is just utter rubbish. If you took the time to listen to the whole programme like I do most mornings Alan Brazil's guests are expected to talk and give opinions about a wide range of sports and topics. If you base your opinion just on the fact that he appears on there then you can accuse all the others of this also.

Yes but my point is that two out of the three players you mention have only played 25 minutes between them so far this season (we scored three and let in none during that time btw!)

I think you knock the nail on the head when you say you PREFERRED to think that he is limited. Aside from the fact this suggests you have an anti-Brown agenda anyway so whatever anyone says to the contrary you are going to dispute - my overriding point is that due to the situation we are currently in you don't know for certain that it is the manager and therefore must accept changing this things now could make things worse (rather than better). I suspect all three players you mention (who clearly have the potential to propel us up the league) signed largely down to who is managing the team (in fact I'm pretty sure I've read that in each case.)
