There is no doubting that Brown is not the best loved SUFC employee at the moment, and after the team's displays of late it's not surprising. The thing about protests is that they have to have a lot of visible support to have any effect at all. I've seen a few in my time and there have been very few that have had and bite and impact, maybe the impromptu one regarding a move to Basildon was an exception.

Ron is not stupid, as someone else said, he knows exactly what he is going to do, and when, and protests are not going to change that one bit. By all means if you really want to protest then go ahead, but at this time the Southend team needs our support more than ever as Millwall will think we are there for the taking. I still have the hump from the last 1-4 stuffing we got at home so I will be channeling all of my energy into backing the team.

I'm afraid there is not much that even the most vehement support can do for a team that is hamstrung by no gameplan, zero tactical direction, and crucially, that is no longer playing for the manager. Best for all concerned that RM acts quickly and decisively.

I can't argue with any of that Sherrif, but I can't help going along to games and cheering the team on and getting excited when we win a corner or two. It really brasses me off when we play badly but I always hope for a better performance next time round.

We all knew what Brown was like the minute he walked in and took Sturrock's cup final from him. It's all about Phil. Last season was shocking, Brown an embarassment to the club and his team were awful. I don't know for sure but some of the things he says about his team in public must hurt some of the players. I've never agreed with this type of thread before in my years, but there is something about Brown that tells me he cannot manage. It hurts me to say it, being such a pessimist, but Brown OUT.

I am not convinced that any of those names (Powell, Austin, and Cotterill) have demonstrated they can manage a club like Southend on a tight budget any better than Phil Brown. Of the three, Cotterill would probably have the most to shout about.

Agree with much of what you say. IMO Brown's a one trick pony, if the defence is performing he's got a chance and he deserves credit for getting promotion largely due to the number of clean sheets. Sadly now we're conceding left, right and centre. I've no faith that he knows what he's doing in an attacking sense and seemingly he's lost control of the defence too:sad:. Time to go.

Brown's reaping what he's spent the last 12 months sowing. Absolutely zero thought to the long-term future of the football club and a typically short-minded transfer policy left the club needing significant reinforcements this summer. Those have taken their time and have only created an unbalanced squad that's chopped and changed week in, week out.

We're a Frankenstein's Monster of a football club; a soulless entity comprising odds and sods recklessly stitched together by a madman, chucked into the outside world with no direction or identity.

As I've said time and time again - it's not about what someone can do on a budget anymore. It's what is done with the players once they've been acquired that counts, and to be honest I think a house brick could do a better job than Brown on that front. I'd be confident that, whilst we need to get a couple more players in to give us depth and added quality in one or two areas, at least 2 of the managers above would be more than capable of doing that. I'd then be confident that at least 2 of those names mentioned would be better motivators than Brown, would get more out of this squad by playing to their strengths, and would command their respect so that the players actually want to play for them and follow their instructions.

Promotion was built largely on sturrocks players, youths and a good signing in Coker. He does seem to have signed a couple of decent players this year, but he also signed a winger and prefers playing his third choice right back in that position...

With a small squad and deadline day on Wednesday, we would need a new manager with a realistic shopping list in by Monday OR brown will need to be given another 3 or 4 matches. I hope for the former.

When you know Southend can't put a decent side out because of some better players injured or suspended, it feels like Brown had given up the hope of 3 points before the game kicks off. I can't bear a manager that gives up on my team, to me its unthinkable. Yet its written all on the players performance, energy and attitude levels. Beat before they step on the pitch. Get out there Brown and man up, show your team we will not roll over. I hate this zero pride that we have flowing through the team's veins right now, players flitting in and out of games and a manager flitting in and out of the club. Some managers work well with top players, some managers do better with young lads through the system, some managers do both. Brown wants it on a plate it seems, getting his team fighting for 3 points when he knows its no - where near his strongest 11, this he seems incapable of. And he'll not find many more critics than in the stand behind him at Roots Hall, many of whom have seen them all come and go before him. Clock is ticking....

Ferdinand should be a decent signing.

Hopefully Simpson does work out, and we just need to get Ranger and Wordsworth back.

Phil knows we're short of a quality, and has said to judge him when the window shuts - has he not earned that right given how he has moved the club forward?

Football fans will always moan, even when things are going well, so when we're struggling on the pitch it's inevitably doom and gloom and we might as well be relegated now.

The fact we're playing **** is because we don't have the players, but he knows that. He's working hard to bring quality in, and to be fair, I've been impressed with most of his signings.

Think of that god awful hoofball we played under Sturrock.

In Phil we trust ....

You have to give Brown some credit for the improvements at B&L too. Think of the awful state it was over there and how much better it is now. They're also fitter now than they were, though you wouldn't have thought so today.

For all those 'in the know', the question has to be, what the fudge is going on? Is there despondency and a lack of loyalty in the dressing room? Is it that the manager asks players to perform duties alien to their natural game? Do we, as I have suggested many times, need that all important attack coach to nullify PB's lack of nous up front?

I think JamMan often rebuffs the allegation that we are a defensive outfit, and rightly so, but in the final third we are negative/clueless which is haunting us. Is our keeper/defenders combination bereft of ability at this level or are they being exposed through tactical deficiencies throughout the side?

Maybe a few additions of a particular calibre may eradicate the problems. Cox has struggled, often through lack of service, but he looked more than ok when he had Ranger as a foil. The two together had the experience and knowledge to perform regardless of inadequate coaching.

Two or three new faces may make all the difference. I believe the current group of players is capable of producing more than is currently seen. Where do the problems lie?

Ten games needed before we can judge PB and his new team - but I have to admit, it's not looking great so far.

Good call. Exactly this, I'm hardly a fan of PB (like almost everyone right now) but I do think it's the most logical decision, give him around 10-12 league games from when the transfer window closes is a reasonable amount of time until he get's his P45 from Ron.

Reason being:

1. Lets see who we bring in & what difference it makes to our performances, after Wednesday, when the deadline closes.
2. Ranger / Timlin / Wordsworth all hopefully back from injury... again lets see what difference it makes to performances.
3. It's giving a new manager enough time (around 2/3rd's of a season) to implement a positive change.

Lack of players my arse. Those out there look disinterested or put in zero effort. It's not just about results. The body language of the players yesterday was terrible.

Howsabout - let the transfer window close and see who PB gets in...await, as others have said, the return of Timlin, Wordsworth and Ranger...then give an informed opinion at the end of October.

Hear endeth the 1st lesson.............off to church now to pray for a change in fortune :Worthy:

The way England played in the summer PB would fit in very well as Sam`s number 2 !
Of course what you forget is that Brown would demand a serious amount of compensation to cover his contract. Essentially, we can't afford to sack him.

He could resign.

Or he could become England's #2......
