Brown considers Smith call up

At the start of the season. Is there any possibility that could have been paper talk or that things may have changed in the last 8 or so months? If what Ricey says is correct, then maybe there is legs in Dan not signing, though a bit poor for Bentleys dad to laugh off any suggestion of Dan signing a new contract. Anyhow, its up to Dan if he wants to sign or not. Anyone should have the option to better themselves and if Dan decides not to sign a new contract then good luck to him

I haven't seen it myself but I do remember someone posting about it.

Bently really ain't that great , he's a pretty good shot stopper but then again so was Flahavan he's pretty hopeless at crosses and his kicking is not the best I've ever seen . Seems to me if we can cash in then let's do it and give Ted Smith a chance that way we can then cash in on him in a few years time , assuming we're not in the prem by then

DB appears to want the kind of move his hard work and dedication has made possible. Well done to the lad. However, the club needs to think beyond the next six games and trying out the starlets of the future is a sensible course of action. I hope the selection for the next games reflects the likelihood of who still has a future with the club and gives ample notice to those that are likely to be expended.

There have been some successes on the player front this season and a number that have failed to stand up to the test. You can make your own minds up about who is in which list.

The team has been successful in staying up and consolidation can be a positive. I think that RM may be disappointed as yet again he has provided the manager with a good level of support in terms of squad size and I suggest he had hopes of at least the play offs when the last round of loanees were brought in. Still, it could have been worse.

Time to move on and galvanise the club, the squad and the fans for the 2016-2017 season. It will no doubt contain the usual number of highs and lows that are more akin to a rollercoaster ride.

The stick Bentley is getting here is unjust. You can't blame the boy for wanting to move on. He got denied the chance to speak to, let alone move to, a bigger club than ours with more money than we will ever have and that was out of order IMO after they offered a decent fee. I personally feel that was wrong. People forget that those sorts of situations cause concern amongst young players. Football is a short career and one move could make you for the rest of your life. After seeing the way this club has conducted previous transfers I can't blame players, like Bentley and Payne, moving on. I feel sorry for Dan as that QPR move would have sorted him out perfectly, we should have negotiated a deal and at least let the boy talk to them. The same will happen with Ted Smith.

Not only can you not blame him, I would be disappointed if he didn't want to move on. For some one who has had his future and career stalled by being kept with us, his attitude has been first class.

He has not missed a game, even had to play in the JPT because that's what the chairman wanted. Yet some people want to stab him in the back. My hope is that some how we do a deal where we can loan him back. With the pressure off for both sides we will see a much better and more confident DB. One thing is for sure, in the future he will without a doubt make some of his critics on here look foolish.

It's not like rival teams in this division are being linked with Dan Bentley, it's Everton and other elite clubs along with the likes of QPR and Hull who are desperate to get back in the big time.

The reality is that he will leave, and I think we all hope to see him flourish at a higher level.

With regards to Ted Smith, let's throw him and see how he copes. He was a bit shaky in previous appearances. Dan Bentley will understand that he will be leaving, and as a result we have to plan for the future.

Whilst we're on the subject though, does anyone have any idea of the tribunal fee we will relieve? It seems unfair if it is anything less than the reported £1.25-£1.5m already bid.

Do you know the ins and outs of the deal QPR offered then and what other transfer are you talking about that the club have handle badly?

The club obviously felt their offer wasn't good enough (maybe it wasn't enough up-front etc); what you and I feel about it makes no differences.

I still don't understand why sitting on the bench at QPR would have been a good move, surely playing regularly is better for him at his age!

IMO he isn't good enough for the Premier team or a top Championship team YET; I don't doubt he will be; therefore another season in League One would do him no harm (lets face it, he hasn't been outstanding this season has he?); it would be different if we were still in League 2.

What I don't like about the situation is he clearly doesn't want to be here and even stated himself he has no intention of signing, therefore I don't want him here either and would much rather us play Ted Smith for the rest of the season.

However I do wish him the best when he does move on.

Certainly will be interesting to see who does come in for him if at all. Undoubtably he is a very good shot stopper, but other areas of his game still need a lot if work. In talking with others we have all agreed this season he hasn't been any where near as consistent as he was last season. Still a good keeper, but doubt scouts would have been as impressed as they would have been last season. From what I've heard Smith is a much more all round accomplished keeper, hence the England call ups, if he replaces Bentley I can see him as our number 1 next season whether Bentley stays or goes

I can't see any harm in Smith playing in the last 6 games. Just those few games could do wonders for his confidence and ultimately his development.

As Bentley is certain to be leaving in the summer why not see if Smith has what it takes to be no1 next season. While we're on the subject of our youngsters I'd like to see Bridge get a few games next year

why not send the loan players back and give the youngsters a go for the last 6 games....seems double standards to me, if you are going to drop DB for young Ted then fine...why not try out the other players in the under 21 set up

it was "out of order " that the club put the club first and the player second????? What are you talking about. I support SUFC first , second and third- any individual player comes last. He should be asking his agent why he didn't negotiate a clause in his contract giving him the right to speak to other clubs if the bid was over £ X. But he didn't. I don't feel sorry for him in the slightest, he has had to wait longer than he hopped - big deal. He still has time on his side.

this is not an anti Bentley thread I am neither pro or against, I just find your point ridiculous- big club comes in so we have to bend over and take what ever it is they want to give. I aplaud anyone who stands their ground and does what they believe is best. In this case best= best for SUFC

Why is that wrong? He has a contract here!

I'm so done with the Bentley charade now. All this coming onto the pitch last to milk a separate round of applause just for yourself, patting the badge on the shirt after the game. If it all means that much to you Dan sign a contract, if not, **** off.

No way would that happen, if Bentley stays why would you keep him out of the spotlight ? The club would want to play him hoping for a decent offer to come in, if he's left on the bench next season he becomes a worthless asset. What would you do if you were Ron ?

A lot of Prem teams after him so be stupid to stay if he can up his wage and be given first team football, albeit out on loan somewhere. My mates uncle is first team coach at Bournemouth and they've been looking at him for a while now. Apparently another 5 or so Prem clubs have been keeping check as well.

For what it's worth, with the season basically over, I'd stick Ted in. Unless we know Bentley will be back here next season on loan, I really don't see the point in playing him.

Even if he does come back on loan I think it would be more beneficial to start playing Ted. There would always be the worry that the parent club would recall him and then we could be left in the lurch.

However, that does imply that we have given up on promotion this season. FWIW I don't think we'll make the playoffs, but whilst it's still possible we should put out our strongest team.

Yeah I see your point. In terms of ability, Smith was supposedly ahead of Bentley but physically way off. Hopefully he has a good summer plan and comes back a bit beefed up. I personally have no problem with him being our number 1 next season.

Once we're out of the play-offs, I think it's a good idea. We need to know whether he's up to the task if need be. I'm sure Dan will understand that. It comes with the territory of letting your contract run down.

I don't think Dan has had his best of seasons, but a bigger club may well take him under their wing and turn him into the keeper he has the potential to be. It's going to be interesting to see how it pans out.

Prepare to be disappointed Ryan. If we get £500-600k plus a sell-on % then we'll have done pretty well out of a tribunal now. Said it at the time, not selling to QPR was a mistake.

Not as simple as that though is it, you wouldn't be saying this if he had made a few saves that won us games we have lost since xmas and we were sitting in the top six and went on to go up via the play off's, how much would promotion be worth vs the lower tribunal fee ? These things are always a gamble, in this case it's backfired but credit to PB & RM forgiving it a go.
