All keepers make mistakes (buts its ok if they look like they "enjoy" football apparently!), I'm not quite sure what people expect from a League 2 keeper for crying out loud.

oh here we go. Smith isnt a good goalie. Doesnt come off his line, isnt vocal, makes bad decisions, doesnt catch and looks nervy. The only thing he does well is reaction saves. That's Daryll Flahavan. :stunned:

Edited for accuracy (probably).

Really pleased for Tomiln, more useful than given credit for.

Spot on Dave...don't wanna put the bloke down but if Belford made these mistakes then i would forgive him because at least he looks like he likes football.....this bloke...no hope, nervous mouse at 6ft 5, joke Sturrock!

Normally I agree with your assements on players but I think you are way off the mark here. For me he is a good keeper that just needs time to get used to playing again. He has made some good saves of late and his only real error was he cuold have done better on a few half chances but the same could be said for the defence as a whole.

I had a dig at Tomlin at the beginning of this thread, I am delighted to be proven wrong, thank you Mr Tomlin for shoving my words up my bottom woooooooooooooooooooooooooo

That's not the point I was arguing. You confidence play is a tag for someone that's gash. I'm not saying Smith isn't useless (I haven't seen him) but that's not to say that players aren't affected by confidence.

Is it just footballers that suffer from confidence while doing a job they are paid good money to do?

If i wasnt doing the job properly that i was paid to do, id be told i wasnt good enough, told to buck my ideas up and probably be put on a course. Footballers seem to just carry on making mistakes and we have to accept it because the poor thing is low on confidence.

There you have it ladies and gentlemen. Wiggy would forgive one player because of how how he looks.

Chuffed for Tomlin his overall play this season has merited a goal.

This. Thoroughly merited.

I'ts called confidence, Smith aint got none!

I'm sure if you keep slating him, it'll only grow.

ps How important was his save at 1-0 now?

Indeed, confidence has nothing to do with it. Which is why the top teams in the Premiership & Europe don't employ teams of sports psychologists and neither do TeamGB's cycling team etc.

I can't believe you are serious. Talk to any top manager and they will tell you that confidence is everything. It makes all the difference in the world. This isn't bricklaying we are talking about!

Of course it's not just footballers, and a decent manager in any profession will realise if someone's suffering because of lack of confidence, and manage them accordingly.

As for having to accept a footballer's mistakes, of course you don't (though if it's confidence, and if you're a supporter wanting the player to do well, then it'd make sense to be a little lenient) however once again at no point was any comment made that we should just accept that he's suffering from a lack of confidence, the point I was arguing was your assertion that "confidence play" is just another word for "gash".

Do you still maintain that a confidence player is automatically rubbish?

Well had he not made an error for the first we would be 2-0 up and have a cushion
