Post-Match Thread and Ratings Boston 3-0 Southend United

For me, 1st half we were the better side, should of been at least in front. The lads worked hard but no end result.
HT Coughlan gives them a rocket, Maher sez keep it up lads it'll come.
2nd Half you could see within 2 minutes they were up for it and we never countered that.
Embarrassing defending, no final ball, as usual, and too many passengers tonight.
Parrillon looks a good bet for next season and thought KAF did all right, that's about it.

In a nutshell, Boston looked like a side fighting for their lives, and we couldn’t cope with them. We looked the better side in the first half and created a few chances but, as so often, we failed to convert any of them. The second half was a different story altogether with the first goal giving Boston the resolve to scrap for everything, and scrappy it was. It proved effective though, with a lot of robust challenges, and we never really got into the stride we had in the first half. Credit to Boston, they did a job on us, but the second half looked like a Sunday morning match at the local park in terms of football quality. I think our season ended tonight.

we haven’t lost any ground on play off places tonight it’s still the same as before the game .
Sadly that's not true. We've played the game in hand we had over Gateshead. If we had won then the play off place was in our hands since we still have to play Gateshead. Altrincham's point tonight moves them above us. Now we have to once again depend on our rivals losing.

A lot of bye byes needed in the Summer - been found wanting far too many times this season.

Try and off load Hopper - what a sentimental crap signing he's been, he wasn't prolific before, now goes plays in statue mode

Bonne, he's decent in his build up play, but up there with the worst finishers I have ever seen.

Bridge - worst crosser of the ball in football history and has lost the magic he did have.

Gubbins - defender who plays in statue mode

Husin - regressing every season

Cav - average Joe who's lost his get up and go

Walker - looks like he can finish, but doesn't put the effort in

Kev should be binned off, he won't be, resigned to that fact, only hope is this all important summer window and pre season correcta the wrongs of his last 3 years in charge....

The absence of Golding and Ralph played a very large part in us conceding 3 in the way we did, and Harry had one of those games where he was great one minute and slipping all over the place the next. Our inability to hit a cow's arse with a banjo continues to haunt us, and if only our early chances had gone in...........how many times have we said that this season. SUFC, players and coaches, you really should have done far better tonight. I suspect ShrimperZone will now go into deep melt down tonight, so as I'm not up for hanging around on here for much longer. What really brasses me off is that now Saturday and Oldham will start with a very subdued crowd, whereas we needed to be giving it large. Nite nite all.
We missed Golding and Ralph for sure but if for the first two goals your goalkeeper looks like a waxwork at Madame Tussauds it won't make a lot of difference.

Big fan of Kev but bloody hell ... Can't get my head around that one

We have a system right?

Whether you like it or not, we've played a certain way all season and looked good alot of the time.

Now I know we've suffered absentees on the left with Golding, Ralph, and Bridge all over the left side.

But surely it makes more sense to play a like for like system ... The 3-5-2 (or something variant )that has worked well.

We've lost Bridge today (massive congratulations btw 🙌🏻🙌🏻) so surely if you're going to play players out of position, you go like for like? Gubbins is not a wide player so in either way changing the formation or whatever you try to do, that just wasn't the answer.

So if we're going to play LCP out wide, why not just play him as a straight swap for Bridge? 🤷🏻‍♂️

We've then played 3 up top with Bonne and LCP way out wide ... And despite both of their efforts, Gus and Gubbins did F all and supplied no real support. Gus just stood up with Bonne and he had noone in the middle.

We should have gone 3-5-2

Back 4 was shocking and provided no support. Midfield was flat and none mobile. Strikers too spaced out and lacked service and support.

All wrong.

Over to you @Tangled up in Blue ...😉

Why did Maher only make the 1 substitution at 2-0? It clearly wasn't working and again he keeps faith with the under performers.

Hooper and Bonne very rarely won a header, Morton had a nightmare opening 15 minutes of the second half, Gubbins was the only defender that put a shred of a performance in tonight and Husin again had another game where he brought nothing. KAF & LCP put him to shame.

Sorry I'm speechless. :Winking:
