#Southend Phil Brown says he's yet to make his mind up about extending Nile Ranger's stay. Club need to assess extent of his groin injury.

Not played for 2 year's so hardly shocking Nile injured himself, crazy world of SUFC.

Players are usually given a training programme for the off season. Sprints is a great way to see if they've stuck to their programme...

Disagree with that. Off season tends to be more general conditioning and fitness over longer distances, nothing thats going to be too taxing on a player but can help give a solid platform to start pre-season. Don't see how sprint tests are a measure of that personally

If PB doesn't extend his stay though we'd need two more strikers I'd have thought.

I wonder if you're both talking about different things. Do you mean a genuine sprint, i.e. see how quickly each player can run a set distance, or are you talking about a bleep test, where the player has to cover a certain distance in a set time, and the time decreases with every "sprint"? (Bleep tests are a way to measure endurance, whereas a genuine sprint isn't.)

That said, I'm sure our fitness, and strength and conditioning coaches are just as qualified as any others, and know what they're doing. I'm sure they set each player a bespoke plan to ensure their fitness is as it should be, and that any test that is done will reflect what they were told to do over the summer.

Glad to hear, genuinely hope this turns out to be a stroke of masterclass by el tango.

Completely agree, Cox and Mooney partnership is looking promising, add to that Ranger and / or Bridge attacking in the hole just behind the front two (ala Payne style) looks like a very promising threat to the opposition. For the first time in a while, it looks like we have a good number of attacking options there.

Glad to hear PB is going to give him a chance for the season. The way i see it is eventually this lad has to grow up and relies he has a real chance of a decent career, so why not now?

Adding to people saying the mooney and cox partnership looks good, we also thought the mooney and hunt partnership looked good early on when we see it last season. I hope mooney can show what he has in the past at orient, but im not going to hold my breath just yet. One of the most frustrating players ive watched for southend.

Mooney and Hunt would have been if Hunt could have stayed fit- Cox fingers crossed will (younger and no past issues)

I approve, definitely worth a gamble. A fully fit Cox/Ranger partnership could be up there with the best in the division. However in the short term a forward loan signing would be most welcome, I'm unconvinced Williams will be a good impact sub, another option is needed IMO.

I hope you are right. We need to remember it is a team game so no matter how good our attacking options are, we have to stop the opposition too ..... so that means a tight midfield (where we have limited options due to injuries) and a co-ordinated back four.

Still, I won't complain if we win each game by just scoring 1 more goal than the other team no matter how many we let in. :omg:

More so this, completely agree with your midfield comment, now we have Ranger, we can adopt a more traditional 4-4-2 formation, and play Ranger or Bridge down the right (didn't some mention in another thread, that Jack's preferred position and most effective when he was playing right wing for Chelmsford & darting into the box?)

If so, that could add some weight to the speculation of bringing back Sam McQueen as our new left winger.

As for us scoring more than we let in. Statistically I completely agree, I would just prefer it was a lot less than the Col Ewe did last season.... Mind you that would take some serious beating! :hilarious::hilarious:

Ranger can't play on the wing and Jack prefers the left. Cox, ranger and Mooney can't play in the same team but it's good to have options up front
