This.

Only need to look at the players we've tied down in Bilel, Prosser and Leonard to notice this would seem to be the impetus from PS this year.

This sums it up for me - I think this is what is happening too.

I think we do need a few specialised players, but the fact that we seem to be looking at players who will pass through midfield will mean the plan is that they wont just be watching the ball sailing over their heads for large parts of the game.

I hope Luggy is trying to build a flexible squad capable of adapting to the opposition as required with more than one game plan available, like we started to play towards the end of last season.

Fingers crossed he is decent in one of them.

The only issue with versatile players is they sometimes dont excel in any.

Yeah it does worry me that he got released by Walsall. They may be League One but only just as they were truly dire when we were in League One and going on last season's form haven't improved much.

That said every signing at this level is a gamble. Just look at Ryan Hall coming up from non-league to become one of the best players in the division.

Is anyone else slightly concerned that this hasn't been made official yet? I appreciate that there are a 101 different reasons why this might be so such as the medical might not have taken place yet but neither Hurst or Tomlin have signed yet and both were supposedly done deals.

It's not exactly time to panic but I think I'd rather know about our interest in players once everything has gone through.

No. When he passes the medical it will be announced.

Imagine the outrage if we announced it now and he failed it.

I didn't expect them to announce it BEFORE the medical. Just wondered why this wasn't done at some point today and thus announced at some point this afternoon. If it was one player then it wouldn't concern me but the same happened with Tomlin. Sounded as though it was all but done and then not heard anything on it for a week or so.

Maybe there were still some things to be ironed out and PS's holiday delayed things. Who knows?!

Seems to me we have a budget- to many players = too many not so good players
rather we divide the budget by less players and got better quality- if this approach frees up the money for the likes of Freddy, Kevan Hurst (who I imagine will be at least a similar wage to Granty) then thats good by me.
Hope rumours of Freddy and a two year deal are accurate..

The player has just agreed personal details and hasnt had his medical, when he has then it will get announced.

Maybe he wasnt available to do the medical today.

Grant left because he wanted to play in league one, we wanted to keep him so wasnt trying to free up money.

Agree. That wasn't really what I was talking about- just more generally that we are looking at a smaller squad and players who can cover different positions therefore are very useful.

Indeed they are.

Im not convinced we are trying to shrink the first team squad, we certainly had a lot of fringe players here last year who never had a chance of playing so guess the overall squad may be smaller.

Our squad was smaller than Herefords though

I don't want to be negative or "get down" on the man ..... but I am still hunting for an explanation as to why the player has had so many clubs. Going out on loan suggests that he wasn't able to get into the first team (and that can happen if another player comes in and plays extremely well) but then again he moves on really quite regularly.

Of course I will be shouting encouragement once he is wearing the blue shirt (or yellow, pink, white, pale blue or red in recent years) and I only hope that once again Sturrock has unearthed another gem ......... but at the moment I'm still left scratching my head.
