Wouldn't be too unhappy with that, knocking on a bit though. After Belford's tweet though I'd be surprised if it's not him.

Didn't Kevan Hurst say that he would be staying with his mate Jimmy Walker whilst he sorted out somewhere to live?? Is Jimmy Walker now in Essex or am I confused?

Guess that might hint that Gilbert isnt staying (assuming one of the defenders is a left back). Ryan Cresswell and Anthony Straker would fit the bill as a CB and LB respectively.

Comment via my facebook from my mate who is a Swindon STH on Phil Smith

Me

"Walshy, word on street is were in for Phil Smith. From memory of him at Crawley he is ****....Am I correct?"

Walshy

"Yeah, basically he is. had a couple of good games but Paolo had no worries about getting rid so I wouldn't be over the moon."

Not sure why you want to bash him before he's even signed, if in fact he does.

Won player of the season, league 2 player of the month and promotion from league 2 when under PS.

People need to stop this bashing of players before they sign. Look at Barry Corr everyone would of thought oh great a crock that scores not many goals. He got 20 goals in his first season for us. Ok he didn't play last season but look how well he did. I remember that people weren't overly complimentary about Clohessy signing and he has been one of our most consistant players over the past two seasons. Paul Sturrock obviously sees something in him and I have faith and trust Sturrock in whoever he signs.

Bashing a player we have never seen based on his wiki/football manager record I think is wrong.

I have seen Smith I dont know 10 times and he never looks very good to me. Is that wrong to say that? My Swindon mate goes home and away and says "he isnt much cop" - Thats his opinion.

If he joins great - Good luck pray to go he is best keeper we ever have, but I dont think its wrong to say I have seen this bloke a few times and I dont rate him.

I'll back Sturrock's judgement but I have to say I have the same fears. During the whole Leon Clarke saga at Swindon I checked out their main message board to see what it was all about and at the time Smith was being absolutely slated by their fans for numerous errors and poor performances. Most of them don't rate him and I fear if he's a confidence keeper he would quite possibly have a torrid time down here as unlike some players he may not be granted much patience by some of the supporters. Remember Mildy following Flahavan? Due to Darryl's stint here and the fact most wanted him to be kept on it was always going to be difficult for someone to follow him. Mildenhall was fighting a losing battle that first season before he won most of the fans over. It will be difficult for any keeper who has not had the best time recently (a la Smith) to follow Belford now.

Wonder if Luke Daniels is back on the radar?
