Best cover songs??

C'mon Everbody also a fine cover by Sid Vicious of the Eddie Cochrane original.

The English Civil War tune is the same as that used for "When Southend United come out to play, sing up"

indeed, forgot about that track...unfortunately Sid was just a muppet, a mere pawn to be played with

Not so, Nobby! It was Dexy's idea... I knew the drummer (Seb Shelton)'s girlfriend at the time and- despite Kevin Rowland's po-faced image- she told me that the band were having a laugh. Strange, but true...

I stand corrected-

kevin rowlands was always a strange man, do you remember the range of 'ladies' underwear for men he promoted and openly talked about in the 1990's?

I do! Billy Bragg (who was sitting in for the then 'disgraced' Johnnie Walker on Radio Snooze) interviewed KR at the time & said he nearly drove his 4x4 into a wall when he saw a poster of Kev (in stockings 'n' suspenders beneath his meat & 2 veg) glaring down at him from a big billboard in Chiswick... I think the man was a unique talent, although he obviously had 'issues.' 'Geno' remains one of the stand-out tribute songs ever (IMHO).

It may have been mentioned before, but I have to go for 'Stripped' by Rammstein, closely followed by 'Diamonds and Rust' by Judas Priest and 'Get Down, Make Love' by Nine Inch Nails.

Actually, scratch that. 'You Can't Hurry Love' by Lord Phil of Collins trumps them all.

Rather like The Pogues' version of 'Whiskey In The Jar,' b-side to 'Jack's Heroes' (for the Ireland squad) they did for 'Italia '90.' One millionth post? ;)

Frightened Rabbit have done quite a good cover of 'Set You Free' by N-trance, in the customary style.

I've not trawled back the last 10 pages to see if this one's here, but I was reminded of it by a thread on at the moment called 'Heavy Rain.' Bob Dylan wrote a song called 'A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall' ... Bryan Ferry's cover was rather good.
