Against Oxford the young lad from Norwich was able to get behind the defence and cause all sorts of problems. Torquay obviously took note and defended deep which stifled the lad somewhat. Obviously he plays but who with is probably giving Brown a bit of a headache. My guess is Barnard will get nod with Barry benched - probably right call.

with the utmost respect

You are talking Rubbish ! Win at all costs at this time of year and let the summer transfer window shape next year. :whistling:

I think a manager needs to take a longer term approach than just the next match.

As established first team players who are under contract for the next year and a bit we're going to have somewhere around a quarter of a million invested in Prosser and Corr. We shouldn't be damaging that investment by letting them fester in the reserves (oops, we don't even have a reserve team) whilst we provide first team football to some mercenary. We need to involve them and if we don't think they are good enough we need to off-load them.

There was a lot of talk about team spirit earlier this season (basically until we signed a whole loads of loanees). You don't want to have unhappy players sitting around unsettling players who are otherwise content and established, proven first team players who have done the business for you tend to be unhappy when not getting games (and if they're just happy pocketing their cheque you want shot of them anyway). Being kept out of the side by someone who doesn't even have a future at the club must be particularly demoralising. It suggests your manager doesn't have trust in you. Whilst you may not put them in the starting line-up straight away, the manager should be involving them off the bench and looking to work them back into the team as soon as possible.

The manager needs to think not just about the next match, but the matches after that as well. It's not worth losing the confidence and trust of a permanent member of your squad for a loanee who is here today, gone tomorrow. However I suspect I'm in a minority on this point as I got shouted down last time I suggested this.

What exactly has Corr done to warrant a start on Saturday? He's an OK player but extremely overrated. Barnard has looked good in the last couple of games there is no reason to drop him.

Corr blimey ,when we was going through the bad patch ,and not scoring goals ,people here were calling for PB to get a striker in on loan, now he has people saying we should play a loanee before a permanent member,if it wasnt for the loanees we would be fighting of relegation at this moment, for starters we wouldnt have had a decent CB partnership for half the season or more.Clubs like ours believe it or not rely on the loanee system, like it or not we have too ,we are not a mega rich club.the loan ststem helps clubs like ours and it also helps the clubs the loanee comes from as it gives that loanee ( normally a young lad ) much needed first team football ,where he can develop his skills.Loanees are not mercenarys as someone labelled them.PB im sure will play the team he believes is best suited to win SUFC the game and 3 points.thats how it should be whetehr tey are loanees or not.

Surely the longer term though is fielding the best team available to try and secure promotion and if that means fielding loanees then so be it. We also need players with the strength of character to "accept" this and fight for their place in the team.

I do have some sympathy for Prosser who lost his place through injury. He does though seem level headed and will understand that the current partnership of Egan & Socolik are performing very well and will need to bide his time. It is not the first time Prosser has been out of the team and he has generally come back stronger each time. I am also sure that Brown will be letting him know that he is very much in his plans.

If Corr feels miffed at being on the bench then that gives him plenty of time to reflect on what an idiot he was in the first place to get sent off

Slipped down the pecking order for me to much one way of playing .Yes a big target man but very little has come through his knock downs of late .Keep to the same team on sataday he will have to sit on the bench we have pace now and can play the ball on the deck .

League two does not contain many match winning players who can decide games purely on their ability. Within league two, good form is normally generated or started through good team morale and the team working as a unit. Any team can go on a good run of form in this league and normally in these lower leagues, one win can have a snowball effect.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance that we maintain good team morale and provide a springboard from which the players can play. What message do you think is sent out if Corr starts? Just go around head butting players and then walk back into the starting line-up straight after your 3 match ban. Brown would not do that as it would be so demoralising to the other strikers and would show a lack of discipline to the rest of the squad. Barnard has played well in his absence and deserves to start on Saturday. I would even bring Eastwood on ahead of Corr on Saturday to highlight the importance of loyalty. If we are to bring on 2 strikers on Saturday then yes, bring on Corr. Otherwise, dont change what isn't broken and dont disregard the players who have stepped up in Corr's absence.

Interesting point. What do you think it does for Strakers morale and that of others that no matter how bad Hurst plays he gets picked every game and is unlikely to be subbed. I read a great post on a recent match report which said 'what does Hurst have to do to get dropped'

I completely agree with your point. I think that if a player has 2 or 3 games in a row where they under perform, then yes - they should be dropped and we allow someone else to have a go. It allows others to have the right to contest for that position and it should motivate the players to stay on their toes. Having said that, i thought Hurst was pretty good against Oxford and therefore i wouldnt drop him now.

Corr should be on the bench for a long time for my mind. Needs to learn that his lack of discipline has and will cost us. Had he not been sent off we might not even have gone for Loza so he did this to himself.

Barnard has been better with Loza and we have won 2/2 when they have started so I would say keep going as we are.

Don't see why he needs to come back into the side personally. Good striker at this level and works hard but very limited in his ability, if we are playing two up front I would much rather see the creativity of freddy or the runs of Barnard alongside Loza. Both look like different players when playing alongside a striker with pace and energy. Also 12 games without a win or whatever it was, was primarily because of how one dimensional we were going forward. Not putting all the blame for that on Barry but our form has mysteriously picked up since he got himself sent off (again) and we replaced him with a more mobile option
