We kick off day 3 (the weakest of them all in my opinion) with ...

Father Ted (Pubey) vs Red Dwarf (Jonny O)

Over to you lot ...

Another toughie. *puts thinking cap on*

EDIT: Father Ted - just for the episode where they get lost in the lingerie department. Classic

This is really hard, I came to Father Ted quite late but watched all of Red Dwarf, found both very funny. I think purely on the strength of Lister, Rimmer, Kryten and Cat, it'll have to be them.

Have to agree with you on this Lee I think it is the weakest one of all the draws.
Watched a few of Red Dwarf when it first hit the screens - but then went completley off it when that Craig bloke got done for assault. I did watch some episodes on satellite recently and though what a load of old cr*p.

Father Ted on the other hand was watchable but only for about 15 mins, absolutley daft in places.

I have therefore based my desicion on the fact that I like the Irish accent and have gone for Father Ted.

I had to take your piccie out Kay it was to wide and was upsetting the width of the thread...Anyway Father Ted for me.

I'm going for Father Ted, all the way. In fact, I want it to win this poll.

Red Dwarf has, like Python, Blackadder and Hitchhikers, grown very weary and tired over the years IMO through over-quoting (admittedly the sign of a good show - unless its Little Britain) and the realisation that it was probably written by an ex-Eton scholar, whereas Ted has just aged like a fine wine and changed its format as the series went on. It also has the best Christmas special ever (yup, even better than The Office I'd argue).

I could post 300 links to great Ted moments, and Dwarf would just need the one to that epsiode 'Quarantine"

A real toughie. Red Dwarf probably went on too long, but when it was good, it was bloody good. As for Father Ted, I've cried with laughter at that show on occasions.

Going to hold off voting for now, this is where Jonny O and Pubey have to do a job of persuading me!

one of the most difficult choices...would vote for these over your beloved OFAH tripe. Red dwarf for me..SMEG HEAD!

Ah my choice here. Right. Ahem.

Red Dwarf, was a British sci-fi sitcom which ran for 8 series from 1988 to 1999. In 1994 the “Gunmen of the Apocalypse” episode won an International Emmy Award, Red Dwarf also won a BAFTA and still holds the record for being BBC2’s longest running, highest rated sitcom.

It brought us the brilliant comic creations of Lister, Rimmer, Cat & Kryten. Not forgetting of course Ace Rimmer & Dwayne Dibley. And it also brought us the word Smeg, surely the main reason it should win this poll.

Kryten - Lying

" Causality? Well, OK, you know, one event causes another, OK, but sometimes, you just gotta say, the laws of time and space? Who gives a smeg!' "
- Kryten

"That suit's as sharp a page of Oscar Wilde witticisms that have been rolled up into a point, sprinkled with lemon juice and jabbed into someone's eye! "
- Ace

Rimmer: "Step up to Red Alert!"
Kryten: "Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb. "

Ace: " You can't judge a book by its cover."
Lister: " And you can't confuse Rimmer with a book. For a start, a book's got a spine."

"I have a medium-sized fire axe buried in my spinal column. That sort of thing can really put a crimp on your day. "
- Kryten

VOTE RED DWARF!

Boo to You Sir!

It's very easy to remain good over 3 series, but red dwarf lasted 8 series, of course it's tough to maintain the standard over that time, especially when the last two series only had one of the original writers. And i think you'll find Father Ted is just as quoted as Red Dwarf!

Father Ted for me. Red Dwarf is another one that relied too heavily on a few comic devices (e.g. the "I'm more (quality) than an (unexpected thing)" set-up that Blackadder did better than anybody). Plus the people who decided seasons 7 and 8 were up to release standard really need a good slapping; those were embarassingly bad. Father Ted, although itself restricted by its exaggerated characterisation, stand up a lot better. And I'll see anyone's 'smeg', and raise them a "DRINK! ARSE! GIRLS! FECK!"
