Breaking News Barrett and Macca GONE

I heard from an insider at West Ham the guy who was the paid for chauffeur was on 60K per year, it was only noticed when the new owners said who is this guy what does he do to warrant 60K per year, the reply was oh that is old **** he just runs the players around and does errands etc!

Good grief, I have only been away for just over 2 weeks and come back to find that the club remains in even deeper turmoil.

So we let Revell go when we could have got some sort of fee and now we have cancelled the contracts of 2 players where we could have received 200k+ in transfer fees. No wonder this club is ****ed. Even the most basic of functions of running a club can't even be done properly. We are just a joke. I don't know any other club who would cancel their contracts of their players instead of receiving a transfer fee. You just have to laugh at the incompetence of the club

I doubt the club just decided they didnt want a transfer fee.

Two possibilities:

1) We have had no offers and just keeping the players on our books was costing as £20,000 a month.

2) As the players havent been paid they are entitled to walk away for nothing.

I'm not defending the club, but you are wrong, there's plenty in recent history who've released highly paid players to get them off the wage bill. Leeds & Portsmouth to name two, I'll bet that Hull will be doing the same soon notably with Bullard.

It's not a sellers market for clubs that are in financial doo doo, buying clubs aren't going to pay a substantial fee for the likes of Barrett and then cough up 2k + a week in wages for the privilege.

2 sounds spot on to me. There was a rumour on here that Macca handed in 2 weeks notice a while back -and I spoke to another (not to be named but not Barrett) player last Thursday who said he had also handed in his 14 days notice. The club had 2 weeks to pay their wages - else they go on a free.

The club may have been happy for Barrett and Macca to walk - lets face it, if a club needs to match their wages they probably won't give us a fee, especially knowing we're in the state we are in. From the snidey and pathetic comment on the OS regarding 'similar terms' it almost suggests that we had accepted a fee but the players were unable to agree terms elsewhere.

We all know cuts are required, we all knew which players were going to leave, but the way the club are handling it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Not paying wages, players (possibly) resigning, stupid comments on the website etc. These players have put in a decent service for the club - if the club can't afford the contracts that the club gave them, then let them leave without this rubbish, they don't deserve that too.

Anyway - I wish these two the best of luck for their next moves - hopefully they'll be back in league 1 soon.

As for the club, the only possibility I see is FF, but if we can't pay 5% of staff a months wages who is gonna start building a stadium for us? Without FF or some financial guarantees, which L2 players will want to play for us?

"The club wishes them both well in finding employment on similar terms"

1. What's the point in this snidey dig?
2. I doubt they will want to find similar terms of being paid when the club desires to do so!!

Of course it was a dig but it was true. No club is going to pay them what we were, saying that they may happily take a cut if it means they get it on time at least.

Just posted the same thing.

Two high earners off the books but no transfer fee.

We weren't going to get a transfer fee for them. It's been several seasons since either has had a good year and both are on championship wages.

yep hopefully we will get a transfer fee for them though!

Yes, that's the most interesting thing about today's news: it's those who haven't been released. This presumably means the club is either confident that they can actually receive a nominal transfer fee for the likes of Grant, Francis, Moussa and Mildenhall or they aren't kicking up a fuss like Barrett and McCormack are.

Unlike Barrett and McCormack those four would actually be worth paying a transfer fee for. Not only have both had good seasons more recently, more importantly they are on more realistic wages compared to their talents.

So let me get this right... two HIGH wage earners "REQUEST" to have their contacts cancelled?

They won't have been paid for 2+ months, so will have opted to treat it as a repudiation of their contracts. The other squad players will have appeared to not have done this, so McCormack and Barrett have taken the step to "request" that their contracts are treated as discharged.

Out of interest, has anyone got any suggestions as to how else RM could dramatically reduce the wage bill when no one wants to buy our players?

No-one's interested in that, or the reasons why we are in a mess. If we get through this crisis, it won't be long before people are complaining that we aren't spending enough in the transfer market and why can't we attract more players to Roots Hall.....

What sort of fee would we have got for Revell?

Like Barrett and McCormack, clubs weren't prepared to take him on on the wages we were paying him (or not paying in the case of McCormack and Barrett).

The wages we were due to pay were higher than any nominal transfer fee we'd have received.

Or that these two handed their notice in first and the others will be released once their 14 day notice period is up.

.

Ain't that the truth?

With these two leaving, for better or worse, to me it truly is the end of an era that has bought much pride and joy to many. Good luck to both of them, and thanks for the good times.

I liked both these players, some great memories. Both will be remembered fondly, if the dust ever settles. A real shame to see them end their Southend careers in this manner.

Agree, it's entirely unnecessary. I wish our club scored its points on the pitch rather than by way of childish remarks upon the departure of personnel.

Really sad that there leaving....But what annoys me most is that other clubs are going to see that these players have cancelled there contracts in there decision, which makes us fans look bad but it's not true because we've supported them throughout the whole year and they didn't perform to keep us up so screw them. We finished 9th in leauge one with highest average attendances and now were in league two...Goes to show aye.

How the **** do the fans "look bad" in this sorry mess?

Get over yourself.

When I say makes the fans look bad, I mean the whole situation, makes the club look bad as clearly noone is interested in joining us and our captain and Southend lad even wants to leave. What you talking about get over yourself?
