Atmosphere tonight

Thats pretty funny.

I take it that was after the game? How come You lot we're still there when the rest of the ground was empty, does it take away fans that long to leave Roots Hall? Blimey most Southend fans would be half way home.

Its not an easy stand to get out off, that why all the comments about the stand catching fire were particulary funny. I woudn't want to have to get out in a rush

I fail to see why everyone needs to sing ? I've moved from V to the family section to get away from the incessant ****ing Boom Boom Boom of a rythemless drummer. Having said that I'll be moving back to the West coz its just not the same without a half time ciggie.

It's been said time and time and again the accoustics at RH are the biggest problem. Great noise from the North Bank but poor view. The South Upper tries hard but really can't be heard beyond the halfway line and from the family stand I could barely hear TBV. The family stand was fairly lively but I'll bet no-one 50 feet away heard them.

Just live with it and look forward to an accoustic friendly new stadium where us old farts can watch the game with just as much passion as the rest of the crowd but in a different part of the ground.

had to look twice when i read this. what a stupid thing to say. imo football is all about singing. if you want to sit in silence move to the south.

what the west do in those two blocks is great. if it weren't for them then i would be very embarassing sitting in an silent library of stadium.

people always moan and moan and moan about them. personally i would say worry about yourself more than them.

everyones knows the players need the fans on their side and backing them all the way. 12th man and all. god what a stupid thing to say especially slating smiffy for drumming. what a joke.

Completely disagree. Football is whatever you want it to be, I pay my money and singing is not compulsory.

When I go to the footy with my father who's in his 70's I enjoy nothing more than sitting in the east and discussing whats happening on the pitch. However, when I meet up with the lads I like to have a few beers and a bit of a sing song and the west is the place to be.

As for saying move to the south for silence, thats a bit harsh. outside of the west stand the Upper South is the loudest part of the ground.

If I want to sing I will. If I want to get into the game and forget to sing that's my choice too. You have that choice too - so leave me alone to enjoy the game and I won't moan about you either.

That's fair enough. But what me and others on here are complaining about is the people that claim there is a lack of atmosphere and then say they don't sing and they moved because they don't like the noise. Yeah it's your choice, and one which I'm sure Smiffy and everyone else respects

So I'm a rhythmless (note the spelling - I can be a facetious ******* as well) drummer am I?....

Considering I've never played it before in my life I feel I do a reasonable job in the hope it adds something extra to the atmosphere. I think most in V/W will agree that it encourages the fans to unite and sing as one, which in turn will hopefully encourage the lads to up their game. Something which obviously does not register with you. I don't claim to be a pro on the drum, far from it, infact at times I probably am a bit out of tune. I tell you what though it's a tough job (which I really do not want to do, but I do for the love of our club) You should see the state my hands are in after each game, literally bleeding for the club. Anyway, this isn't a sob story.

How about you pick up the sticks then billy big bollocks and see how you do?

Infact, no. How about you remain in the family enclosure, I wouldn't want my **** drumming or the noise from people vocally encouraging the team to upset you (especially the "One Adam Barrett" tune - what stupid fans we are to sing a song about our team captain) On a side note, If you ever want a chat about my poor drumming techniques, you know where i'll be (just follow the awful boom, boom, boom) Perhaps you can offer some expert advice?

just ignore it , you are doing a great job.

All the people saying they make no noise- just move to V for one match and everything will suddenly make sense.

only neg point- ideally I would love to hear the drum sooner after the opposition scores. This is when we are needd the most- turn the anger and hurt into a wall of noise

Yeah that's the spirit!

Smiffy, nothing personal mate, you've taken it far too much to heart :p

Both of you seem to miss the point. I have the utmost admiration for your efforts in creating an atmosphere but two simple facts are that it can never happen in Roots Hall and there are some people, like me, that choose to enjoy my football in other ways. My glory days in the North Bank are a dim and distant memory. I love nothing better than a great atmosphere but I'm too old for all that now.

Smiffy, you can never please all of the people all of the time. Your work at TBV is excellent, please keep it going.

Alongside this, I do disagree that everyone needs to sing to create an atmosphere. A shout of encouragement or a roar at a corner etc can often be more effective than a 15 minute version of the great escape which tends to fade into the background.

I thought the atmosphere, in the South lower, matched what I thought was a great match, up there in the top 5 five over the last few seasons. I was certainly croaky on Saturday from the singing, and my daughter took her head out of her mobile, sung away and sat/stood gawping at some of the fastest football she had seen. She's deffo up for an away now when I told her this is the atmosphere we create away.
TBV are doing a sterling job, but battling RH accoustics as has been said numerous times!

Maybe, although I'm not sure how else to take a comment of "incessant ****ing Boom Boom Boom of a rhythmless drummer"

I agree that it is an almost impossible task, to create a vibrant "12th man" atmosphere at RH. We all know why and that certainly isn't because people are not trying. But, although it is a tough ask, that doesn't mean we should just give up hope. We probably have 2 more seasons left at RH, before the place is bulldozed. I don't know about anyone else, but I want to give the place the send off it deserves, by trying to bring back the "Roots Hall roar" one last time. Rather than watch this historical ground fade away with a whimper. I'm sure those who put their own blood, sweat and tears into building the place would of wanted that as well.

I also understand that not everybody wants to sing and dance in the stands. I have said as much many a time. But, what ****es me off, is when people moan about the noise levels coming from Block V/W. Pretty much every game in this area is a cauldron of noise now. If you do not believe the claims, then come and join us. Season cards can easily be transferred for the odd game, just ring the ticket office.

There's plenty of "singers" dotted around the ground that are doing their bit as well. Which is what TBV is all about. The WHOLE ground. But, it's all those people who want to sing but are to concerned with peoples reactions around them, that need to stand up and be counted. I know there is loads of people that fall into this bracket and if you all just faced your fears, I'm sure The Hall would soon turn into a cauldron of noise. So, what are you waiting for? I bet you will be pleasantly surprised with peoples reactions around you. Get some balls and sing up with pride if you want to. It's your club and you love it, so go ahead and show it!

So, if you want to sing then do it, dont hide. If you don't, fine. But, do not criticise those who do. Whether you like it or not, singing is part of the matchday experience at football grounds. Without it IMO, it would be total utter ***** and wouldn't be half as enjoyable.
