Atmosphere tonight

Maybe so, first half we were louder. For most of the game there were people signing. I also said to my old man that its quite a sobering ground. Without being able to get another beer or go inside it sobers you up very quickly, that means you realise where you and are and it doesn't seem as much fun. Most notably when you have to wait in line to take a leak against a wall

Like i said i wasn't knocking smiffy or his efforts, i think he has one hell of a job on his hands

Stop being so patronising fella,'one hell of a job',this coming from big city team who only fills half their ground every other week, and whos noise level is very tame as well as repetitive.

What i dont understand is whenever a games atmosphere is mentioned someone immediately criticises TBV.

TBV are collectively, what, about 100 people (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). That means that there were at least 8,000 other Southend fans in the ground last night.

Whilst TBV are supposed to act as a stimulus/catalyst for noise they do need some help from others. Its everybodys responsibility to get behind the team and create a fantastic atmosphere.

No, that's fair do's mate.

But, the management and players said it was "another good atmosphere" last night, so that's all that matters really. We are here to make an impact on them, so that's good to hear.

On a sidenote, I thought your chants on the way out were class. Singling out the stewards as lookalikes. Tony Yeboah, Becchio and Robinson, funny stuff!

Did you hear the drummer chants? It wasn't you beating his gong was it?

The best example of that was a small blonde mascot at Colchester getting Luciano Becchio sang at her, she had no idea what was going on :D

Come off it, theres no way we can start comparing fanbases is there? Tame and repetitive? There were at least 10-12 songs sang, how many came from the home ends?

We are a big city but a city with very little interest in the football team, add that to crazy prices and our attendances aren't bad at all. Last night there were fans from Essex, East Anglia, Devon, Darlington, Leeds, Ireland, Norway and god knows where else. For a friday night game at Southend end, for a third year in league 1. Give over fella

My point about one hell of a job is that its about time people thought about how they want to view there football. Do they want to vocally support their team or just enjoy watching. TBV is a couple of hundred people that have a good go at making noise in poor conditions, the rest of the ground was sat on their hands for most of the game. Will that change at a new stadium? Personally i don't think so, its a credit to Smiffy and the people around him that they carry on every week without much help. If they went you would be just another quiet ground like Colchester etc. Instead of questioning away fans and the noise they make, as a whole you need to ask whether you want a TBV. It s all very well supporting it on here and during the week but its during a match they need you help the most

The original idea for TBV was to be an ultras type affair. With this in mind, I would love to see some mental dude in there barechested with a loud hailer and his back to the game directing the fans in song. I'm not volunteering as I'm entering a quieter stage of life but there must be someone crazily in love with the shrimpers to do the job.

Trueblue does that most games without the loud hailer!

I was in Block W for the 1st time and I thought the atmosphere was fantastic, disappointing that the ground has such poor acoustics that no one else apparently seems to hear it.

However whoever came out with a sick Munich air crash song, then hang your heads in shame. Pathetic.

It was indeed me on the drums (was difficult last night due to seating arrangements) what was the chant then?!..

Spot on. We need the whole ground involved. Not just the main mob in V/W and the other small pockets elsewhere. Do you know what, as pathetic as it may sound, a silent protest maybe in order, just to prove a point to those who continue to mock the efforts of the people, who are trying so hard to generate a decent atmosphere at RH. Without everyone pulling together it won't happen and some of you need to wake up and get involved, rather than ****ing moaning about it. If you aren't happy with the noise levels, man up, grow some balls, stand up and sing up. If not, shut up.

I was on the edge of block u front row, atmosphere was good but everyone around us including the lad next to me did nothing. Its a shame, but well done to the tbv I think you did well.

"we pay your benefits" made me giggle!

I wouldn't like to say on a forum with kids and women ;) There was also something about drumsticks being placed somewhere :whistling:

The rest i agree with completely :)

Can't say any of that is wrong.

Another thing that amazes me, why all this talk of 100/200 people? isn't EVERYONE ment to be TBV?

Well said. There just aren't enough fans at Southend who will bother to sing. They might join in or clap along occasionally but that's it. The old gits would rather moan at the ref and youngsters often don't want to embarass themselves in front of their mates.

On a positive side note, I like the new chant for Jonny Herd.

was in block 'v' - thought atmosphere, singing etc was good - i was in north bank v Bristol City in championship year last game and it is quite strange that you really cannot hear anything from the West stand due to the acoustics - but i suppose what matters is that the players can hear on the pitch (going by Beckfords hand movement towards the west stand anyway)!

Get them to turn out the bloody lights and it will be buzzing. Most older Brits are just too reserved to sing when they can be seen even though in their hearts they desparately want too. Either turn the lights off or give everyone a stiff drink as they come through the turnstiles to rid them of their inhibitions. After all you watch a film at the cinema with the lights off, so whats the differnce because its footy? We never used to have them on and as far as I know, noboby was killed or injured because of it, whats changed?

Good shout!! I emailed the Blues when the new lights went in a couple of years ago and got the predictable reply from Dave Jobson - ' Regulations, Elf n safety etc', but he did say the would look at it again - didnt of course!!

Now, what if they get a whole load of emails? Lets do it cos I've go a bl**dy great neon light right in my eyeline and it drives me nuts!

As for the atmosphere - it must depend on where you are sitting. I'm in T block and it sounded pretty good to me.

Just one more thing, WHY didnt Sawyer get on the pitch, with 20mins to go, Leeds were there for the taking and Grant was the weak link - he just may have made the difference.

I actually heard noise coming from the East Stand in the second half yesterday, tbh I don't think the atmosphere was a bad as some people are making out. Was a bit up and down in the West though.

I hardly think i need supporting advice from a leeds fan,of all people, concentrate on your fans bullish attititude and behaviour, would be my advice, and ask yourself, why your fans are so disliked, good day.

I moved my season ticket to block V, right next to the blue voice, for an fantastic atmosphere every match, and so far, we have had good atmosphere in them blocks. If we are to create a fantastic atmosphere in Roots Hall, we need more fans to join in with our chants, and that starts in the blocks right next to The Blue Voice, we are a dedicated singing section, which has been created by fans of the club who want to improve the atmosphere at Roots Hall. WE NEED EVERYONES HELP IN DOING THIS!!! For 10,000 fans, I have seen more livelyness out of a tortouse with no legs, I know our acoustics in the stadium are complete **** but does that stop other supportes in other blocks from singing? Simple answer, NO. We all know that Southend Players love it when the fans get behind the team, it makes a great atmosphere, and it boosts the confidence of the players - fact. TBV and season ticket holders in Blocks V/W get behind the team all the time, but we need the whole ground to help out in our mission to get the atmosphere rocking in the stadium.
Smiffy and Toellandback are 100% correct, we come out every week and sing loud and proud for our team, yet other fans who sit over the other end of the stadium criticise our support with comments like "TBV were very quiet imo" and "Was Blue Voice even here today" and "I hardly heard a whisper from TBV today", when they dont really have an arguement tbh, our acoustics are **** and I have a few videos from the last few games that I will be uploading over the weekend, which proves that we are creating a great atmosphere over in Blocks V & W.
If you dont like the amount of noise that is being produced in places around the stadium, then how about you f****** stand up and get the crowd going instead of criticising the people that actually make the efforts to. Sing up or shut up, your choice.

Rant over.

nothing wrong with joining in however folk feel comfortable. if thats just clapping along then i dont see the problem. getting behind the team is the idea so if folk feel their contribution is clapping along or singing, i dont see that matters.

but yes, too many wont join in at all and indeed would rather moan which in itself is negative whether aimed at the ref or the players.
