Yeah, your right, how stupid could I be! I didn't know Messi and Ronaldo were strikers. Are you saying that players like Heskey, Raul, Crouch, Trezeguet, Totti, Toni and Frei can not be great strikers because they have no pace? If you say that pace is the way forward then what about this for a strikeforce?

Usian Bolt (100m in 9.69 seconds and 200m in 19.30 seconds).
Asafa Powell (100m in 9.74 seconds).
Both were in the Jamaican 4 x 100m relay world record breaking team.
1st, no they are not out and out strikers, but their temas style of play means they are either alongside or just behind the main strikers

2nd, wayne gray could run the 100 metres in 11 seconds,

3, heskey tony and crouch are target men, raul trez, totti could all take on an opponent and beat them 1 on 1. frei isn't in the same league as the others...yet

Trust me Sheringham was never ever pacey.

So what you are saying is you want a player to have pace, experience and all the skills and attributes Dougie has, as well as a total lack of ambition as he will have to turn down all the offers prem clubs would give him if he had all that to sign for Southend? Be rational and logical.
no what i've stated and will constantly state is freedman is overrated.

erm that's why we have Robinson
an inexperienced teenager! thats all we've got for pace? so what happens when we play against a team with some decent CB's that mark him out of the game or keep him in their pocket? what elsdo we have as an option? long ball over the top?

Yes and you are welcome to that opinion but what you are doing to point out he is poor is comparing him to some of the best strikers in the last decade. WHy don't you compare him to other league 1 strikers and point out all their strengths and weaknesses then we can actually have a logical and sensible arguement.

Yes he is inexperienced but that is the whole reason we have him, he's playing alongside on of if not the most experienced player in the division. Teenagers dont develop experience over night.

So you want an experienced striker with pace who can score for fun ?? Any player like that isn't going to be playing in League one.

Don't you mean debate? Peace be with you fellow zoner.

every one of these strikers have come from lower level football to succeed at this level.
1. lee trundle.
2. jermaine beckford
3. matty fryatt
4. craig mackail-smith
5. aaron maclean

and you have to wonder why hooper has bagged a shed load this season, why charlie mac has bagged a load this season, harrold has bagged a few this season.

Maybe because they are playing in League 2 ????

what the same league two that we won promotion and then surprised everyone (even ourselves) by winning the leaguue. what im getting at is there isn't that much of a gap between the divisions. many teams have proved it. us, doncaster, swansea, col u, mk dons, posh yeovil.... the list in virtually endless

When we were promoted from L2 to L1 there wasn't much of a gap in terms of ability in the teams but now I think even the step from L2 to L1 has got bigger and its a huge step up from L1 to the Championship as Forest are proving.

I don't know about the others but interesting you've mentioned Trundle, Hooper, Macdonald and Harrold - all of whom have less pace than my granny.

i think MK Dons,Peterborough and stockport are proving it isn't that big. hereford might disagree though

isn't exactly slow, but his technical ability is top notch. he has very quick feet and his speed of thought is impressive. over the last few seasons he has been forgotten (maybe he's past it) but the season we were promoted from league 2 he was incredible and easily ran eastwood close as to who was the best striker in the division at the time

I would certainy not describe him as pacey. if i had to go to one extreme then I would pick slow over pacey

Thing is gb jr you keep saying all these lovely interesting facts but they don't have any bearing on your original point. What has Mac and Harrold scoring lots got to do with Freedman and his lack of ability being due to his lack of pace. Harrold and Macdonald don't have pace either.
