The reason im saying about his attitude, which is what most of you seem to be questionning is that in my opinion he thinks he is the dogs bollocks and above everybody else, if he does something wrong he stands there, looks at everybody else and starts dishing out his orders instead of trying to chase it down himself. Now i understand hes using his experience but its another thing when youre screaming at players especially the young ones, because it makes them less confident. Even against crewe he was screaming his head off at a ball boy (who looked about 8) beacuse he threw the ball to the wrong person.

first point,

against crewe whenever mildy had hold of the ball dougie was constantly motioning for him to play it up in the air. for someone of his "calibre" surely he could work out (even after 70 minutes) that this tactic was not going to work. we had no target man yet crewe had 5 reasonably tall defenders. at one point moose had come into space on the left wing, and was calling for it, but mildy, seeing dougie's motioning, pumped it up in the air. then in the exact same play, the ball was won by a crewe head, and dougie stopped to whinge at moose for... well... who knows?

second point,

against crewe franno for the first 10-15 mins was playing like a man possessed. he was everywhere. but dougie started to have little words with him and it was clearly effecting his game. at one point freedman was near-on berating him and franno just put his head down and turned his back. he clearly wasn't interested in what he had to say and he was being put off.
it's like this, if you were at your place of work, and someone was CONSTANTLY saying do this do that, no your doing it wrong do it like this, you'd get well annoyed, be put off and wonder what am i doing here?

third point,

i already posed this question but no-one would respond with a sensible answer. against tranmere dougie conceded a pen. everyone agreed it was a harsh penalty, and "oh unlucky dougie". yet a few weeks back, a young lad, 22 years of age, brilliant prospect called james walker, missed a penalty and was crucified.
some of the stuff freedman does is poor. miscontrol. concedes possesion. but no-one ever mentions it! yet how many times can you think of people slagging off players for the exact same crimes!!!
fourth point,

i think freedman IS a good signing, but has been given a star status which is completely unjustified. constantly injured, only 5 goals scored a few assists and on high wages.
IMO people are clinging on to the reputation he has built up and are loving the fact SUFC have a "big name" playing for them, when the truth is he cannot hack it anymore. fair enough bring him on for the last 15-20 mins, but 90 minutes? come on! we need pace up front! not an old man who now and again does a fancy flick or runs wide!!! and i know people will argue "we win more points with dougie in the team", but if that is the case, you've got to remember we had HRK, sawyer, feds, harding in the team

GBJ, I admire the way you've come up with some decent facts there but just where do you get this idea from that he's on high wages? It was well documented what was said about his wages when he signed, and while he admittedly won't be on peanuts, I'm sure he's not on mega bucks.

He is underperforming and is not fully fit but i completely disagree with you.
so why did he start against bristol rovers? why did he start against tranmere? why did he start against crewe? and why has he played nearly 4 1/2 hours of football if he is not fully fit? it's boring hearing the same thing. he's 70% fit. he's 80% fit. why is he playing then? laurent was left on the bench against tranmere until the death. he was left on the bench against crewe until the last quarter. barny has been on the bench lately. when will everyone realise, he is at his fittest and unfortunately his fittest is just not good enough to play near on a full match. pace is the way forward

Because he was the only other striker we had! Barnard was even further away from full fitness. Laurent was injured. Walker and Revell have long term injuries. Pace is the way forward? this is the most stupid thing ever if you mean that strikers need pace!

What I believe he said is "what did you do that for?" - hardly the same thing. .

I disagree with this thread as I don't think his attitude stinks but even saying this to a young lad is a little harsh and if I was that kids parent and heard that had happened I wouldn't be best pleased. But I would agree asking that question doesn't signify screaming.

well true i have no actual facts to back this claim, but come on, lets be honest. he's surely going to be on the same as barrett or clarkey. he's not going to be on 2k a week. im not exactly sure what he was on at leeds, but what i do know is leeds would not take him on permanently because his wage demands were too high. why would he lower his wage demands to come play for us when he could have gone to leeds? obviously i know his family are here, but he was at leeds for near on a year so why not another? or maybe two?

yeah spose your right. after all the best strikers also have no pace. for example henry, messi, rooney, robinho, ronaldo, owen, torres, i could go on and on. to be a top class striker you need pace. simple. even eastwood could drop a gear and shift when he wanted to

Michael Husbands? True those strikers have pace but not just pace. If they have all the other skills and pace then they wouldn't be playing for Southend in the first place. If Dougie still had (if he ever had any) pace he wouldn't be playing in league 1.

If he had pace, like the above, he wouldn't be playing in this division, also like the above

Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham might think otherwise?

Pace is a great asset, of course it is, but plenty of players have reached the top without it.

Yeah, your right, how stupid could I be! I didn't know Messi and Ronaldo were strikers. Are you saying that players like Heskey, Raul, Crouch, Trezeguet, Totti, Toni and Frei can not be great strikers because they have no pace? If you say that pace is the way forward then what about this for a strikeforce?

Usian Bolt (100m in 9.69 seconds and 200m in 19.30 seconds).
Asafa Powell (100m in 9.74 seconds).
Both were in the Jamaican 4 x 100m relay world record breaking team.

Sheringham? Bergkemp? Cantona? Zola? None of them overly pacey. In fact Sheringham sometimes looked like he was going backwards.
in their prime shearer and sheringham were quite pacey. cantona and zola were so technically gifted and played with other world class players their pace wasn't always neccesary. my point is WE need pace up front. freedman does not offer this.

erm that's why we have Robinson

Trust me Sheringham was never ever pacey.

So what you are saying is you want a player to have pace, experience and all the skills and attributes Dougie has, as well as a total lack of ambition as he will have to turn down all the offers prem clubs would give him if he had all that to sign for Southend? Be rational and logical.
