Post-Match Thread and Ratings Altrincham 2-0 Southend United

I genuinely don't think the owners will sack him even if we spend the next four months or so in the relegation zone.
Could they afford to even if they wanted to? We never knew how "long-term" those "long-term" contracts dished out 12 months ago were.

This season is starting to feel awful..

I'm pretty sure we have less points now than this time last season.

A season where players weren't being paid, didn't have running water, started with - 10 start and just 13 or so players.

How is this even possible?

Kev Maher is a southend legend but this can't be allowed to continue.

We barely look like scoring, always look like conceding, and only have plan A followed by more of plan A.

At what point does Kev come under fire?

We are just 3 points above the drop with FGR and two tricky away games to come.

Now as far as I am concerned.

Their commentators spotted every shortcoming in the team selection and game plan, that Maher and his assistants put together and have blindly been following all season.

We have absolutely no penetration, service to the strikers is consistently poor and we have a defence, in which I look at GUS as the worst culprit, that cannot tackle.

We got ripped apart down both flanks early on, gifted both goals and the pedestrian game plan never looked like yielding any results.

We drop the two most consistent performers in midfield, select an immobile loanee, Miley, still building match fitness after time out and a woefully poor Husin, go 2 down in the first 15 minutes and never look like having half a clue how to get back in the game, unless possession around the half way line is taken into account. All that is down to Maher and it HAS to change or he HAS to go!

Pi $$ poor performance on top of a season where we are barely averaging above a goal a game, now screams at me thanks for your efforts Kev, but you are no longer taking us forward, time to call it a day before too much more damage is done!

Who would I bring in?

Daryl McMahon
Steve Morison
Phil Parkinson - (Not that one! - Altrincham Mgr)
Tilly

Would immediately spring to mind.

I would NOT be looking at any of the current back room staff to carry on this spineless lay down and be walked over week after week dross that is currently being served up!

That's where I am after today, sorry to those who do not agree, if nothing happens see you in NLS next season!

This won't be difficult to offload.

DAZN was a total pain in the arse at the beginning, lots of buffering, shuddering and then a blank screen. Finally got a picture 5 minutes into game and then wished it was still a blank screen. We had a fair bit of possession but when you concede at the start of the half, and then again at the end of the half, possession only counts for sod all. Second half and DAZN contributed a stuttering screen to the point of stopping the stream and restarting, followed by more possession football and nothing else. Glanced at the SZ comments and wished I hadn't as there was some stunning analysis of our performance from the usual suspects.

I'm off to cook dinner now, **** this lot for a game of soldiers.
Likewise had issues with DAZN.
In trying to refresh the no-show at the beginning, inadvertently bought a subscription!
Spent a bit of the second half getting it cancelled even if Tanitha online was trying to make me keep it. Bless...
After all, who can bare to be without the Saudi Pro League?
As you say, a 'stuttering' start.

I genuinely don't think the owners will sack him even if we spend the next four months or so in the relegation zone.

They won’t. Kev has 2-3 years left on his contract (which was only renewed recently) I wonder if COSU have the money to even consider sacking Kev.

If you look at both goals, both of our wingbacks are up the field attacking. They picked us off perfectly. It was at that point it should have been addressed.
I think this is key to our issues. We talk about wingbacks but neither Bridge or Morriss are defenders and both prefer to get forward.
This was highlighted today as Alty played 3 upfront which kept of back three occupied and unable to provide any cover.
I've lost count of the number of times the opposition exploit the space behind Bridge and in all honesty Gus isn't much better defensively.

Bonne and Pepple were working well together, why did we need to break up this partnership to bring in Walker?

Morton has been excellent, why did we need to drop him for Miley who has done nothing and looked half a yard off the pace every time he has come off the bench since returning for injury?

Jeacock is not an upgrade on Collin, drop him.

I don’t think we should be mindlessly demanding we play 442 (I’m sure people only do this as it’s the only formation they can name) as though that’s going to magically solve our issues. But the setup was clearly wrong today and played into Altrincham’s hands.

Wood looked like he could have had a decent impact given more time, why did we have to wait until 15 minutes before the end to make a positive change?

Only 3 points off the relegation zone…

Bonne and Pepple played two good games together against Tamworth and Charlton and looked like a partnership beginning to form but since then we’ve dropped Bonne for Walker.

Coker and Morton had looked good in the middle but for some reason KM drops them both to keep in Husin who has been dog **** this season.

Some really strange decisions that almost feel like KM is panicking and hoping that eventually something is going to click.

As somebody said, we must be so easy to scout against as we’ve never once changed our style of play. If you can nullify Bridge, stop Gus from attacking the far post and put pressure on Crowther you’re in with a shot.
