Post-Match Thread and Ratings Altrincham 2-0 Southend United

It's come to something when the loss (uuh, release...) of Powell and Fonguck is lamented.
If the latter had 'trickery' then I'm the second coming of Johann Cruyff!
Wes has made 9 Ebbsfleet starts out of 18 games - and they're rock bottom!
You would have thought a club in dire need would have utilised some of that trickery!
Not sure where you live nowadays Johann but it appears you didn’t see many of Mighty Blues games last season and before.

+ Kevin played for Southend so he's passionate.. have we all forgotten?

Playing and managing are totally different. If there was a direct link to good players making successful managers then Wayne Rooney wouldn't be working his way down the league from Derby, to Birmingham to Plymouth, Frank Lampard Jnr wouldn't have seemingly given up on management as a profession, Steven Gerrard would be in line for the England job after being a huge success at Villa and even we would have had a golden era under Bobby Moore in the 80s, so let's put the stopper back on that discussion.

In direct regards to me, it is an absolute pleasure to have been one of the first to donate to Kev's montage and it's a disgrace down to Ron, that COSU have yet again rectified by granting Kev his testimonial season and I will be attending the match for sure, as i hope alot of other Shrimpers will to honour his links and longevity to the club.

But his passion for the club, which isn't in doubt, bears no influence on current performances on the pitch, as manager he is now responsible for turning it around with changes he has already stated need making, so the onus is on him now to deliver a stable season, if he can't then we need someone who can.

Again I go on record to say if he succeeds, brilliant as that would be the best outcome, but he is definitely becoming vulnerable not just in my eyes, but some other Blues fans as well, particularly after yesterdays shambolic performance.

From the Altrincham fans forum:

Southend were very weak. With our change of keeper they were terrible at putting us under pressure. Far too many over hit crosses and they had nothing much in midfield, so though they had a decent amount of possession we restricted them to very little. Their 373 fans were as limp as their team.

We should have been three clear at the break, and we protected Randle very well. He should be pleased with the clean sheet, though nerves got to him with his kicking.

Regan dived twice. Deserved yellow card, Parky did what was needed and subbed him before he got a red.

Can't argue with any of that!

We actually played much better in the second half but it was to little to late as we just cannot score goals. If the Alti commentary can spot our floors with us, how come Kev cannot? We had a lot of the ball with the outcome of it being Zero.

Something has to change, we cannot go week after week losing games and offering very little, it is one of two reasons IMO , either the players are not good enough or the management are lacking in motivating these players and their ways of setting us up and playing are just wrong and the end product of this is we are heading down the league again. Kev has a full squad now so the excuses are running out.

Personally i think it is both, some very average players matched with some very average management.

Over to you guys.
We don’t, we were great two weeks ago and unbeaten in four away games. That’s the conundrum unfortunately. But then if football was logical we probably wouldn’t watch it.

Kev may have to have them all in one at a time for a cosy fireside chat (Holding a red hot poker might help ) :Winking: Carrot and stick depending on personalities Hope nobody is knocking off an unfair share of half time oranges?

He is correct and that is because our two best performers of late were benched.

The problem, as I have seen it;
The centre three rarely carry the ball at their feet forward, and make too often a very short pass to Cav/Morts who has dropped back to make a back 4. He then may slowly take ball a few paces forward and then look sideways to the other two midfielders, and this all happens in our rear third. The wing backs sometimes try going past them BUT this all so slow and in our half AND so far from the front one or two, who are isolated and marked by 2 oppo players each.
What to do? The TEAM needs to start from the back and take ball foward to a mobile midfield moving forward, using space from wing backs pulling markers off them and away from the front two.
The basics, players need to take the ball forward at their feet and have options by team mates moving.
At the Hall I hear Kev and DC yelling for it, BUT never hear senior players cajoaling their team to do it.
Incidently the last players notable for doing this were Kensdale, Lapata and Neal, before them maybe Timlin or Deegs.
And I do think our players have the skill set to do it BUT not the mindset.

This is where I think it was hoped Moncur and Bonne might help us, as they’ve performed at a higher level and we’ve got a few younger inexperienced players. We lack real leaders. Maybe that’s what they are looking for?

Brilliantly put Massimo. A team that closes us quickly and be up the pitch, puts us under pressure easily with how you describe.
Ball simply has to move a lot quicker to get the oppo out of shape.
Though yesterday, another insipid first half performance with midfielders and defenders unable to work hard and tackle, from what i saw from coverage.

I cant understand the dropping of both Coker and Morton ,our 2 best midfielders off late , what sort of message does that send to them ,Coker only midfielder that likes to have a shot at goal and move forward ,Morton with his range of passing etc ,Has Kev explained why they was dropped ,i realise he dosent have too being the manager ,but it dosent send a good message to not just Coker and Morton but the rest off the players. Puts in their minds that no matter how well they play they will still be dropped ,Kev will play his favourites no matter what. ( Husin and Cav ). i will add Wind only start he gets man of the match and is dropped . Sorry dosent send a good message to the players .

Regarding Noor, (and yes, I do favour him), I suspect that the data from the vests consistantly shows Noor as being top of the yardage, and making most interceptions/tackles.
Likely also most misplaced passes BUT you have to have a go.
