Advice on where to live in Essex?????

I Have lived in Suffolk Bognor Regis and Scotland but for me Home is always going to be Essex

I am proud to tell folk up here that i come from Southend in Essex.... but what fu*cks me off is when folk up here say...."Southend? That is in London isn’t it" I say “know it is in Essex” and they say...."yes but Essex is part of London though isn’t it"

Ooooooh, don't get me started!

:madman:

With me I think it's partly a heritage thing, both parents Southend born and bred, my father's parents also, and their parents before them. Many of the family are buried in Holy Trinity, Southchurch, and my grandfather's brother's name is on the WW1 role of honour memorial in Priory Park. I was born at home within sound of Roots Hall in Wenham Drive, and the town has always been part of my blood. I'm proud to be an Essex girl (in the true sense) and love the area I live in.

I agree with you there Kay having come from one of the oldest families in Leigh ..."The Emery's" and growing up with there history alone ...I would not want to live anywhere else..

No, the girls come easy and the drugs come cheap sadly.
I think that you might answer your own question if you were to move quite a distance for 5 years or so......it is were all you know comes from...all your friends, your history, your family.

The one thing i miss the most is the familiarity of knowing a town like the back of your hand

Myself and the wife are starting to put the wheels in motion regards moving back to Essex/South East England next year and having been in the wonderful country of Scotland for the past 6 years, I have kind of lost touch with how towns and villages back home have developed/declined.

Things in the property market change so quick that areas i used to like or think were reasonable to live may have all changed completely.

We are looking to either work in London or the South East of England......but would rally appreciate any views or advice of where to avoid putting down roots.

Is Billericay still quite nice....or priced out the market??

Last time I looked Billericay had the largest number of unmarried mothers!

Hope that helps!

Those people must be halfwits. That's like someone down here thinking Ayr is in Glasgow.

They don’t really seem to have a lot of geographical knowledge of England at all......sweeping statement i know but just speaking from experience

I have only met 2 people that knew what i meant when i said "the Home Counties"

OMG - seeing the name "Murrell", I have a strange feeling we've got one of those somewhere! I'm going to have to go and hunt out some old papers, not now unfortunately as I've got a Governors meeting but in the next day or so. It couldn't be, could it?

Blimey, that would be one of the biggest shockers ever on the Zone!

Few bits about Essex...

You know you're from Essex when.....

You've been to Colchester Castle on a school trip.

You know what Bas Vegas is.

You Christmas shop in Lakeside.

You stand behind Jodie Marsh in the supermarket.

You scream out Essex when you're drunk and just outside London when your sober.

You recognise that water is pronounced with a silent t.

You've heard every Essex girl joke under the sun and they still aren't funny, just disgusting.

You once thought that a train on a pier was cool.

You remember when Southend Pier used to be the longest pier in the world.

You get a little excited when Eastender's ventures into Essex for one episode.

You know or know someone who knows someone who has been on Big Brother.

You know what Chelmo is short for.

The drink Lambrini is very familiar to you.

You overuse the word mate to complete strangers.

You say shut up a lot.

You say 'you what' a lot.

Peter Pan's playground was a highlight of your childhood.

People think you are posh because you don't have a tattoo.

You've been to a lot of different garden centres.

You go on holiday to Kavos or the like and see the same people as home.

Even when abroad people laugh at you when you tell them where you're from.

You have to dress up as a chav and don't have to buy anything.

You go to the ogs ead at ornchurch..

You go out wearing a top that doesn't cover your belly...or belly button.

You commonly state that Bluewater is full of 'posh shops.'

You get your acrylic nails done for any occasion.

You mix up 'are' and 'our'.

You use 'Mug' as an insult and not for describing a drinking implement.

You pronounce Essex 'Essix'.

You say things like "My light don't work" or "I fink it's broke".

You pronounce Dagenham 'Dagnam' or just "NAAAM"

You say "You know wot i mean" a lot!

When an Essex girl tells another girl they're from Essex they get a dirty look, but when you tell a bloke and they smile!!!

Bus drivers often pull over to chat up a girl on the street!

When you find yourself in New York and someone asks what London is like you reply "I don't know, I'm from Essex innit"

You descrive people as "a rite sort" or "well fit...!!!"

People all over the world know the Essex stereotype, and constantly remind us when we go abroad! When you say you're from Essex a common reply is "O yer Essex girls we like Essex girls"

You can spot an Essex boy because he's got the tribal band on his arm!

You drive a white xr3i, or ford escort gti (or such!)

Blacked our windows on a Ford Focus are typical.

To men Essex women (even strangers) are known as "M'Love" (My Love) or "Babe".

When you go to a club out side of Essex (i.e. Butlins in Bognor) you shout "You what! You what! You what you what you what!" a lot!!!!

Essex girls in clubs dance around their handbags after a bottle of Blossom Hill Rose.

Everyone has heard of Dukes.

You spell stuff the way it's said, "Whotya doin' laters?"

Garage music makes you homesick.
