Advice on where to live in Essex?????

You know you're from Essex when.....

:D

Hmm. Despite having lived here, there and everywhere for most of my youth, there's no doubt from looking at that list that Essex has got into my bloodstream.

I no longer live in the area, and I suspect that my missus has no particular desire to give me any more excuse to spend time at Roots Hall, so a return isn't likely any time soon.

As for where I'd choose to live... around Southend, I'd probably look at Leigh and Chalkwell - although I suspect that they're rather overpriced now. As for elsewhere in the county, I may be tempted to look around the Brentwood area - a nice part of the county, and v. well connected.

I was impressed with OBL's post about how Essex is home... and felt a wee bit envious. To a certain extent, I'm not sure I've found "home" yet. My parents live in Texas, my sis is North London but moving to Brentwood, little sis will be in London for a while, no other family close by, friends are all over the place. I suppose the missus's family are from north of the border, although she has had no strong desire to move back yet (sorry Rich!), not least because she hates the weather up there.

So, South-East London remains home... and, as homes go, it's not too bad. I can cycle to work in the city, there's plenty of green space around me, and prices are still not too hideous. It'll do for now!

Im with True Blue for Hockley. Nice area, gym about one minute away and a huge field :) Hockley has everything. A station to get to Southend games very easily.
True Blue - I live just round the corner from Co-op on Victor Gardens!

Dammit, I was hoping on a compadre to share driving etc for some quality away trips (you could have joined the Late Away Wins in Lancashire crew).

Mine hates the weather too, and longs for the sunshine of the south-east, however other factors stop this desire being manifested into a legitimate reason to move!

I Have lived in Suffolk Bognor Regis and Scotland but for me Home is always going to be Essex

I am proud to tell folk up here that i come from Southend in Essex.... but what fu*cks me off is when folk up here say...."Southend? That is in London isn’t it" I say “know it is in Essex” and they say...."yes but Essex is part of London though isn’t it"

I get that here too but I reply by telling Teessiders they're Geordies

I currently live in Rayleigh, which I won't pretend is the nicest place in the world. If I had a choice I would choose to live in North Essex which has some wonderful towns and small villages. I know it's not that convenient for the Hall, but its a hell of a lot closer than Scotland!!

As OBL mentioned in her earlier post, going onto Rightmove is your best move (pardon the pun), as you can stipulate your budget, no of bedrooms etc etc

As you say.....it is a dam sight closer than Scotland and to be fair, my drive to work is 40 miles so i have a 3 to 3 and a half round trip driving every day anyway.

having lived in london, leigh, leicester, leeds and currently sheffield... leigh and essex are definitely home, and whilst it might be a bit snobby and full of Leighites, every time i come home and get off the train and breath in the salty, fishy air i pronounce "it's good to be home!"

...and then i get kicked in by some chav and have to climb belton hill

That's about as much a part of Essex as Shepherd Bush, Newquay, Aberdeen and Montreal.

"Myself and the wife are starting to put the wheels in motion regards moving back to Essex/South East England..."

Anyway, it's a decent up-and-coming part of the Smoke. House prices have been bucking the slowdown trend and it's a relatively safe, chic area. It'll be part of the Olympic bounce too. And it's got a dog track.

Walthamstow was Essex until April 2nd 1965
As was Romford, Barking, Leyton etc etc

Coincidentally (well according to my parents) the day we moved from Hornchurch to Billericay was 2/4/65 thus allowing my Mother to say that she has never lived in London ! (and believe me she does)
