Advice on where to live in Essex?????

Just have a really amazing and accommodating wife mate....her view is that if it makes me happy then it makes her happy and she is willing to up root from her family and friends and start a new life back in Essex.

Wish mine was as accommodating mate...we're looking for a new place together at the moment too - but it'll be the other side of the uni campus only :(

Its funny how people have totally different views....I really miss Essex, sounds odd if you have never moved away from the place, maybe it is because of where i live.. and feel completely detached from my family, friends and the Blues.

I think know exactly what you are saying.
I left Leigh-on-Sea/Essex what seems like a lifetime ago and at the time wasn't really that bothered. But the older I get the more I miss it and the more I feel cut off from my roots (no pun intended!).
Maybe the distance away someone moves is a factor in this - moving to Scotland or Northern England is more likely to bring on homesickness than moving to London.

Total agree.... even when you reach the Scottish border, i am still just under another 5 hours north of that

....I am closer to Norway, Denmark and Holland than i am to Southend

:'(

Billericay is still a nice place to live, but is also still pricey in places e.g within 10 mins walk of the station. However it's 30 mins to Liv St. (engineering works permitting), 25 mins to Roots Hall, 10 mins to the A127, 10 mins to the A12 Northbound, 5 mins to the A12 southbound and 10 mins from the M25. I love it here !

My wife like the idea of Billericay....Might have to put it on the top 5 list

According to google maps you're a 55 minute drive closer than me to Roots Hall....even though Strichen looks like a 50 hour plane journey being all the way up there...Just shows how **** our roads are compared to over there!

Door to door to Roots Hall, I am 603 miles – about 10 hours 58 mins

All depends what you want, the most beautiful parts of Essex, as I'm sure you know, are generally in the north of the county, Thaxted, Debden etc. There are nice parts in most of the areas around the south and equally there are the less desirable areas. Personally, I've always liked Hadleigh, Ashingdon and West Horndon, all still have that "village" feel, not sure on prices though. Shenfield is also nice but quite pricey. As a general prices are fairly static I think, or even falling a little, but again that depends on size of property. Suggest you chuck some figures into Rightmove.co.uk and see what comes up.

See when i'm not in exile in Eastbourne i live just round the corner from Golden Cross in Ashingdon, which is now Hockley apparently. or Hawkwell, they really can't make their minds up.

I loved living where I did. I walked 2 minutes to school, I walked less to the park (Magnolia) and you didn't get much trouble at all. Rochford though was another ball game... Always be trouble at some point and The Rec just seems to be a magnet for scum these days.

In terms of prices in Ashingdon at the moment I think you're looking around the 200-225 mark for a 3/4 bed 1 bathroom semi with a garden.
