The Cowley's have done away with the strict wage structure they had imposed in their first two years at the club.
I'm reliably informed that they secured Akinde's services on 3.5k per week on a 3 year contract. To get the deal over the line they have also helped Akinde's wife secure a job in the area. They literally leave no stone unturned when it comes to player recruitment.
Whether we were ever in for Akinde, I don't know, but at 29 I wouldn't have been keen on us putting so many eggs in one basket.

Or is it desperation because it’s not a desirable place to live?

I believe that the current style of football at Lincoln is not very aesthetic ...... but it seems to working for them just as the Cambridge style worked for them for a while.

And Lincoln is a nice place to go and live - quite literally fresh air after being in London. And good for his family if he has one.

Just maybe also the fact that if they dont get promoted this season theirs jobs maybe on the line ,certainly wont do there resumes any good .

I would imagine Gillingham will be dipping their toes into the transfer market very soon, now that Brentford have sold sold John Egan for around £4 million (they are due around £800,000 in contractual sell on fees).

They previously got nearly £500,000 in compensation and appearance fees from Brentford.

Making the club about £1.3 million from the two transfers in just 2 years, not bad work for getting him on a free transfer from Sunderland.....Who do they have to thank?...Our very own Peter Taylor.

Egan was quality, really rated him when he was here, and he sat with us and Jack Payne at the end of season sponsors evening that year. Really nice quietly spoken young man.

It does appear to have gone deathly quiet at the moment. No rumours or anything.

I'm really hoping we can make 1 or 2 more very useful signings.

We definately need a tricky type striker with a bit of pace and a attack minded midfielder/winger.

It does seem quiet and it makes me wonder if we need to offload 1st?
Does anyone know the story behind Ferdinand not being involved at all yesterday? Is he injured or frozen out?

Think I remember someone saying Ellis Harrison from Bristol Rovers would be a good addition, if out of our price range. He's set to join Ipswich for £700k rising to £1.2 million. Just a little bit out of our price range.

Makes you wonder what we could sell Freddy Eastwood or Stan Collymore for in the current market.

Anton has been pretty much told to find another club if he wants to play. All he's with us for is for fitness. I doubt we'll see him unless we see injuries to Turner, White, Lennon and Kyprianou and even then it'll probably be only on the bench!

I thought that was probably the case but didn't know for sure. I've heard his wages from a reliable source and it really is a fair lump. I'd be surprised if we don't have to pay him off to get him to move if I'm honest.

Didn't he tell the courts it was around £600 per week?

There's no incentive for him to go. The only thing is that - all joking aside - a fit AF is a very, very decent player to have as a backup.

He performed much better under SCP than PB last season. I have no problem with that AF being about rather than the version we had at the beginning of the season (Blackburn match aside).

Now that would be quite some shrewdbusiness if we could sell two retired players not under our contract ;)

I agree, I think he would still be a decent enough league 1 centre back if his game time was managed to let him recover. Whether he is value to the team in that capacity when you look at what his wages could bring in is another question!

Didn’t we have deals on the table for Taylor and vassel? We havnt signed anyone in that position since they blew us out so the funds for a striker must be there

That was before Hopper signed and Cox agreed a new deal though.

You sure? I think the deals were stil on the table after that
Hopper signed 22nd June, Cox renewed 26th June, Taylor signed for Charlton on 27th June, Vassell signed for Rotherham on 29th June, so likely that the club were more or less aware. May be right though, had thought they had signed for their clubs a little earlier.

But hopper and cox were also offered deals your not making sense, you ether offer someone a contract or you don’t we did all 4 of those players, listen we will sign a striker before Doncaster!!
