CP reckons it could be Luke Hyam. My Ipswich supporting mate reckons he’d be a good signing if he could stay fit. Says he is the type of player who’ll put himself around in the midfield and has a good eye for a pass. I’m liking our midfield options that’s for sure!

Very happy with all signings so far. Bit concerned with Hyam tho. I thought we'd learnt a lesson from signing injury prone players. He's only played 5 games (Rotherham on loan) in the last 2 seasons with the Ipswich fans saying his injuries ruined him as a player. Oh well, in Chris Powell we trust.

According to a Blades fan on their forum Oxford have enquired about Holmes. Can see that being a possible move for him especially with Robinson being there as manager now.

Hopefully we can challenge anything Oxford can offer him and bring him “home” so to speak! He and Kightly would be the best wide attack in the league.

Holmes would be a great signing, can play up front or on the wing. 2 for the price of 1...
Rochford born, so could we sway him to return to his Essex Roots?!

Exactly, hopefully a return to where he was born would be appealing compared to going to a three sided stadium.. :Facepalm:id also imagine we could offer similar wages to what they can as well.

You’d drop McLaughlin?

I’d rotate. After all we all know the chances of Kightly staying fit for a long run of games is slim but if all three were fit I’d start with Kights and Holmes if he came in.. that’s not to say I don’t rate Stevie Mac, he was brilliant towards the end of last season under CP. Having options is never a bad thing.

I wouldn’t complain if we signed Rickie Holmes but I do think with Macca and Kightly already on the books as starting wingers we could use the budget better on a decent striker.

Maybe the thought is Dru can play wide as well- he was a winger afterall

Dru will not be going back to being a winger. He's probably already in the top 5 midfielders in League One, with potential to be the best. As a winger he didn't pull up trees. Chris Powell isn't going to lose that ball winning young powerhouse in the midfield to accommodate anybody.

I feel uneasy at the prospect of signing Hyam. Add the injury problems his had with potentially high wages he may have and you have a recipe for disaster.

Depends on the deal. If he’s signing as a 4th central midfielder and the deal reflects that then it seems like good business. With Yearwood being joined by Mantom and Dieng we don’t need to panic buy and can see if the price is right and reflects his injury record.

I didn't mean play him there as a norm- just that it would be a short term option if need be. In light of your point one does wonder if any of the CM we have would be happy bench warming- will be interesting. Mantom is very good, Hyam 100 games in the Championship, Dru from what you say a first name on the team sheet, and the Dieng...nice problem I guess, I just wonder if SCP is going to be very tempted if they are fit to have three of these on the pitch

As has been said Holmes can play as a striker - and his scoring record is much better than many out and out strikers.

So 2 in 1 as has been said
