I must try to resist this thread...random names of players available from now till whenever we sign someone (I predict our first signing towards the end of July).:smile::smile:

Don't expect early signings. Club policy (NOT PB) policy has been to sign later on in the window. See no reason why that will change.

I cannot believe that it's club policy - surely we want to sign players asap...unfortunately players will not want to sign for us asap
Damn it! I just cannot resist this thread:cry:

If he turned Pompey down he deffo wont be coming here!
Judging by how quickly we are hearing of people leaving I’m hoping this year under CP will be different and we will get it done early.

edited: sorry wrong Quote... was meant to be about the clubs late transfer policy

Depends on the player as well. Do you really want to stay at your current club? Do you get on with the manager. What are other players earning. Does your agent have 5 clubs after you or are you nervously looking for one good offer. Do you want to forget football for a month and get on large filming the odd a roasting session with your crew. Or does wifey wan to be settled in and new schools looked at for the kids.

Its hard to know just how much it is club policy or down to the individual Manager. Quite correctly Rigsby above emphasises all manner of reasons and complications why things may not happen early. Brown consistently said he wanted things done early but his actions did not necessarily confirm that , it is presumably no coincidence that we have been the last club to sign anyone in this division for the past 2 years.
However I wonder if things might be a little different this time around ?. Sir Chris has firmly nailed his colours to the mast in saying he wants to conclude business early. He is also respected for keeping his word and doing what he says. This was evident with our early release of players, helping to put us in a good position in many respects to move forward. Secondly we have a completely new Recruitment set up who may be keen to prove their value?
I hope we can benefit from getting together most of our squad for next year sooner than later, given all the evidence that supports the benefits in doing so
Incidentally good marks for the moves so far. All the departures were on my list and I thought another year for Timmo and Fortune should be negotiated if possible. Great news on Coker and White as well !

Interviewing and speaking to 30 players before the end of May last season proves he was happy to do his part of the pledge.

Another reason is that players have various deals with their current club. In some cases like Turner last season he was paid by Norwich for the month of July because he hadn't signed for another club. In his case about an extra £60,000 more than if he had signed for us at the end of June.

Would be a great signing, i'd be surprised if came here though, he must believe he can play at a higher level as when he re-negotiated his last contract, he stipulated that if Peterborough failed to win promotion he would be allowed to leave. Will probably be snapped up by one of the clubs that have just been relegated from the Championship.

And they seem to have a bigger budget than many of the other clubs in the division, they can attract the better players and back up they go. It's getting harder and harder for anyone else to break into this club (although clearly teams like Burton have managed it) ............... so I just hope that Ron is getting close to building that new football ground.

I've been working nights all week and woke up today and my mate in Bournemouth texts me telling me that he's heard that we're interested in Jermaine Defoe!?!? Obviously that's not happening, where do these rumours start?! It's going to be a VERY long summer!

Madison has a clause in his contract that states if they didn't get promotion they'd allow him to leave.

"MacAnthony said: “When I sat down with Marcus last August and agreed a new contract with him, I gave him my verbal assurances that were we to fall short and not gain promotion, I would allow him to leave the club subject to an offer acceptable to the football club and place him on the transfer list."

So, rule that out.

I think his 80k pw wages may be a stumbling block
