Is it me or does League One have loads of moribund inaccessible, sorry, costly trips? Fleetwood, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Rochdale etc spring to mind.
Sure we resume against that bunch from north Essex, and yeah, it's a higher division, but Cambridge, Barnet, Orient, Luton, Dagenham, Wycombe, Crawley, and Oxford would see me at a lot more away games.

One of the joys of living in North Wales this coming season is that if I go to all the away grounds I will travel 4976 miles compared to fans living in Southend who will travel 8255 miles.
Before anyone calls me sad compiling these figures, it is a rainy afternoon up here

Have seen a number of posts about how tough next season will be and will be lucky to pick up any points in August. Sorry is it just me but I feel quite confident about next season. Admittedly we need a couple of decent strikers and timlin signed up but I genuinely feel we could be a dark horse next season. Anyone else agree?

Minor points then .............. :tease:

Ble wyt ti'n byw Mr Spoons? I'm previously of Abergele, before moving to Cardiff.

Not on mine it's not, quite clearly says Sunday 26th December - Boxing Day and lists Monday 28th as Boxing Day Holiday.

Incidentally, those looking forward to a weekend at Blackpool, don't forget that's Easter weekend and prices for accommodation will likely go through the roof.

Prices aren't that bad at the moment , just booked 2 nights in a family room (Friday and Saturday) at the Blackpool Travelodge (right by the ground) for £66 each night. It also has free cancellation just in case the game gets moved for any reason! Me and my eldest son get to see the football and the wife and my youngest son get the pleasure of Blackpool!

A few of us are thinking of staying in Blackpool for the Fleetwood first game. Only 7 miles away on a costal tram apparently. Was hoping for Blackpool away on the first game, but this isn't too bad. Also Coventry away in August which will be good.

I'd take 12th now, consolidation is key next year for me.

Does anyone else feel a little deflated after seeing the fixture list? There isn't that many teams that tickle my fancy.

Now its my turn to slate our Rivals

Climbing to the top of Mount Everest in a Birthday suit is a more preferred location to Rochdale at any time

Know what you mean Pancake. Been to Bury market (best in UK) many times, and after drove down the Bury Road to Rochdale before getting back on the M62.
The nearer you get to Rochdale, the more shops you see closed up & the state of the houses deteriates. Only modern thing i passed there was a Tesco's store!.

People without kids will get a scuzzy B&B near the front for half that price if they aren't fussy....but you can't knock £66 for 4 people..
I've just booked me and Mrs NS into a Hotel in Fleetwood for £120 total for 3 nights on the opening weekend.

Haven't been to Blackpool for donkeys years, but yes it's really easy to get to Fleetwood from anywhere in Blackpool...it's right at the end of the tramline that goes all along the front. There were a few buses that went that way too

Sorry Nath, like Abergele but I am not Welsh, born and bred in Southend and moved to North Wales 1974:smile:
Enjoyed staying at Abersoch over the years.

I would feel deflated if we were in League 2 still but we are back in League 1 for the 1st time in 5 years. It was such a good feeling this morning going to the BBC Sport website to view the fixtures and see Southend listed in League 1.

Do you know what those donkeys on Blackpool beach get for lunch?

  Spoiler:
Half an hour like everyone else. Boom Boom

Anyone got any idea how long the club have got to change some of our our home games to Friday night KO's? It's about a week or so, IIRC.

I've got my eye on our games with Shrewsbury on Sat Sept 12th and Scunthope on Sat.26th September.

I'd've thought the latter is almost a cert. to be switched to a Friday night (I seem to remember it was just a few seasons ago in fact).

I think they have ten days to make changes. Would like to see a few moved to Fridays this season as we only had one last year. Not too many - I don't want to open that can of worms again.

Fixtures give Phil Brown a spring in his step

SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown revealed the release of next season’s fixtures had given him a real spring in his step for the forthcoming campaign.

Perhaps Mark or someone can help me. Getting a bit confused regarding Bank Holidays and trying to organise an Easter Weekend away next year. Does anyone know what day Good Friday falls on in 2016?

Any help much appreciated.
