Breaking News Season Tickets - now on sale

Ageist lol I if my point Is strange why have I not had one decent reason for the blanket discount for over 62s remaining. Single parents subsidising pensioners that can afford the full price doesn't make sense and if you took some time to think about it you'd realise there must be fairer ways of distributing discounts so the people that receive them need them not just over 62s
Quite. Roger who sits near me retired from 30 in the police on a chief inspectors pension, then worked for the post office as an investigator and gets a 20 year pension there too, a state pension as a widower and half his deceased wife's head mistress pension. He does not know what to do with all the money coming at him. Heis late 70s but living the dream?
He is exceptionally FORTUNEate.

Am I helping?

As a line of comparison, I've looked at Boston United's (the nearest NL club to where I live) ST prices for next season. Like us, they're looking to improve accommodation at their new modern-design ground. (They want to build another stand.)

For their seated area they're charging £420 for adults, £305 for concessions, £150 for under-16s and free for under-5s. Most of their ground is unseated and for that they're charging £360 for adults, £285 for concessions, £135 for under-16s and free for under-5s.

Looking at those prices, I reckon Roots Hall prices are pretty good, particularly for the various categories of concessions. And Roots Hall, for all its other faults, is a proper, traditional football ground with atmosphere and, of course, a better team playing in it!

Either that or the current way benefits you so you don't care
I don't know if you know much about pensions and pensioners, but they generally receive a LOT less than when they did as wage earners. There is the one reason you were asking for. No doubt you'd like the last word so go ahead. I, along with many others will simply put you and your rantings on ignore seeing as you bring nothing useful to this forum as a newbie

Just tried to do mine online and keep getting an error message. That's a bloomin' nuisance.

And, just for the record, the Club had given seniors discounts at 60 which was well out of alignment with most other clubs and, so, took the decision to raise it in line to the generally accepted 65, but over a 5 year period. I struggle to understand how anyone can have an issue with people who have predominantly supported the Club on full price tickets for 40 odd years, getting a discount!

Fair enough if you find differing opinions hard to accept
Bet you won't though
Hopefully the policies changed to a fairer one by the time I reach that age.

People will always find something to moan about on an internet forum.

Most of the single parents that I know benefit from the tax paid by pensioners and other working people. The support comes in many guises including free school meals, child tax credits, childcare, free dentistry etc.
I'm 67, work (because I have to) and still pay tax and contribute after working for 51 years. It should not be assumed all pensioners are well off!

BTW, I have been a season ticket holder for over 40 years and paid full price.

I'm not saying all pensioners are I know many people that are struggling of all ages my point Is that if the pensioners that can afford full price do then other people that are struggling could have there ticket reduced thus making the football club more accessible for all ages and backgrounds. I'm not personally attacking anyone and I don't begrudge anyone receiving help that needs it

You still won’t let it drop though which suggest’s it is you and only you that is finding it hard to accept numerous other’s differing opinion.

I'm certainly outnumbered on here . And I find everyone's opinions on the matter interesting I don't need people to agree with me I'm happy to debate part of living in a democracy. And people keep replying with there opinions so only replying to people

I can afford to pay for more than the price of my adult season ticket. Does that mean I should pay more because I can afford to pay more.

Whos to say that pensioners that can afford to pay more don't give some of their excess to charities or foodbanks. I know some that refused to receive their winter fuel allowance but instead of handing it back to the government to spend on more bureaucracy they donated the money to local charities that provided support to OAPs.

You'll be claiming that children under 8 should pay more now as they get pocket money and have an excess of money as everything is paid for by their parents lol

I'd love to know if you have ever overpaid for a product or service that was on sale because you could afford to pay more.

You've worded that much better now and thank you for clarifying.

What I will say is where do you draw the line? If you cannot afford it then you cannot afford it. Should you get a priority discount just because you cannot afford it? Maybe you just say 'I can't afford to buy a season ticket this year so will save and go to the games I can get to instead?'

What the club have done is honour something that has been around for generations. I probably wouldn't be a Southend fan if it wasn't for an older relative taking me when I was a nipper so it does have benefits. Also, potentially those older than 62 use services in the ground more often than those in a different age category and can be relied upon to increase matchday revenue perhaps?

Just to say that I understand your view point but I just don't feel it's logical, nor practical. As I said at the top, where do you draw the line?
