Breaking News Retained/Released list - Wood and Waldron released

Bonne took time to get up and running with match fitness / sharpness as has been said plenty previously. He finished this season gone with 5 goals and a few assists. I would expect coming off the back of that, a rest and with a full preseason we would see improved numbers. Perhaps 8-15 goals and more assists too. A solid forward chipping in, just not that elusive 20 goals + striker we’d all love. If any could, the feeling is that would most likely be Kendall

Half the problem with the game at Wembley was Bonne played centrally, as a centre forward, apart from some periods of extra time.

His effectiveness in the play offs, against Rochdale, as a recent example, were when he was running down the wing.

Bonne debate aside, this release/retain list (or lack of a more extensive list) shows that promotion this year would have been an absolute disaster.

Eh? promotion out of non league would be a disaster?

Cant get on board with that one tbh.

Half the people on here don’t rate any of Bonne, Hopper or Walker at NL level, let alone L2.

Hayes, Collin, Gubbins, Crowther, Bridge, Husin, Miley aren’t L2 quality.

To be promoted from the NL, you need a high quality L2 team. We don’t have 2 decent centre backs, or a striker, or a goalkeeper for NL let alone L2.

At least if we get promoted next season, the club have options on who stays and goes. (The long contracts were warranted for the loyalty that players like Bridge, Miley & Husin gave to the club though).

Yes, I'm so glad we didn't get promoted. Clown take.

I think the forward most likely to benefit from a full pre-season would actually be Walker rather than Bonne.

Walker endured a stop-start injury hit season in which he never really got going. He picked up a hamstring injury after two games.

By the time he returned the strike partner he’d been signed to specifically start alongside - and had played all but 58 minutes of preseason/ the start of the season with - had been sold. For the rest of the season we then regularly change strike partners or shapes and he never really gets going, Braintree try and chop him in half etc.

I actually thought he finished with one of his better performances at Wembley where he looked a threat and carved out that chance all by himself.

He’s someone who may benefit from drawing a line under this season and coming back fresh in the summer. I think he has the raw ability but he always looked short on confidence. If he can grab an early goal next season we may see a different player out there. Now I wouldn’t exactly be relying on it but there is that chance he catches fire and we don’t look back in a way I don’t think we do for any of our other forwards (except maybe Kendall).

Couldn’t agree more.

Our style of play this season hasn’t really been one that has created numerous chances for our forwards , Bridge doesn’t deliver early enough and most of Gus crosses are deep and gives the defender a lot of time to adjust

Like the Wembley goal where we got to the by line and cross it’s so dangerous and forwards live if chances like that

Also we have a lot of possession and teams sit off us a bit which means there’s not much room behind and the forwards have to make very clever runs and hope the likes of Cav and Husin can pick them out

I’m a fan of both but like in the transfer thread they don’t off enough goals or assists for me

Bonne
Walker
Hopper

Would defo get a lot more goals if we had pace around the team and a more quicker tempo going forward rather than the keep possession at all costs philosophy.

As above. I'll say it for the last time & then stop - we need to sort out the midfield to get the right combination/mix that then provides the strikers (whoever they may be) with support & service.

I can't see that any striker that we have or ones that we recruit will be high scoring if the ball is predominantly being played slowly across the midfield & then back to defenders etcetera.

A striker that can score, hold up play, has a bit of pace, targetman.

Other teams seem to find them so why cant we?

We had one in cardwell not so long ago.
Not every other team, to be fair. Plenty can't.
