What would you do if you were Justin Rees

Some people are over reacting massively. Promotion was never the plan for this season and to have even been thinking of it should be considered a bonus. Likewise, to be calling for Kev's head is ridiculous. The man has just broken our record for matches, and has a richly deserved testimonial coming up.

The effects of RM's involvement were still being felt through the initial euphoria of the consortium's takeover. They still are. Kev and co will be given at least the start of next season having had a clear shot at getting in people they really want without the encumbrance of an embargo, and a full pre-season.

Next season will be the one in which to judge.
We’ve had multiple chances of winning and being in the play offs , if you aren’t fuming and disappointed that we’ve thrown many chances of doing so then I don’t know what to say. Before the season maybe it was seen as a bonus but how this second half of season has planned out it’s not a bonus in my eyes . this last couple months we’ve had a brilliant opportunity to capitalise on other teams being in poor form and when it’s mattered we have proper crumbled

Having finished with enough points to be in the playoffs last season has we not had 10 points deducted I thought the same this season would be the minimum personally. We’ve taken a step backwards and any other manager would have been relieved of their position. Maher gets too much protection in my opinion.

I agree in general. Not sure about promotion never being the plan though. I think I know what you mean. Promotion would be a bonus, and they'd obviously take it, but they may well have budgeted for that not being the case in their first season in charge ?

Literally garbage, if you think COSU don't want promotion 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes they are making great strides to stabilise the club...which was destroyed just to be clear. They will in the summer give kev and Co, for the first time in their stint as managers/coaches a full on stable summer of tranfer dealings. Meaning we can actually sign good players, have a really good pre season and have a real go next season.
Then and only then can we 100% judge kev and Co on purely football matters. And if its not working then the collection of very successful business men that run the club will make changes needed.
I wouldn't be so sure of that.
I did hear rumblings that there were money issues and there wouldn't be any available for the next transfer window.
Only time will tell

This season has gone backwards on last season on the pitch despite numerous things being in a better position - no embargo for almost all the season, bigger squad, point deduction etc. The football has been awful a lot this season and feels like Maher is getting an easy ride. It’s so frustrating listening to him after the games. He should be raging at the players but it’s always we will go again. We have ****ed it and play offs should have been a minimum objective this season considering how close we was to it last season with huge issues.

Yesterday was another example of our inability to break down stubborn teams. I don't know why we keep lumping crosses in to the box - that's what big centre backs want.

What they don't want is people running at them and playing balls in on the floor and making them make a decision.

We lack flair and we can't rely on high balls alone. We miss Kensdale and Cardwell & our lack of goals from corners since they left will prove that.

Kendall clearly isn't fit - so shouldn't be on the bench, which is the only justification for bringing on Walker.

Bridge is a shadow of last seasons player and looks seriously lacking confidence and hasn't played well since Wes left.

Why we let Waldron leave and haven't promoted the young kid who has scored bundles is beyond me.

The squad lacks quality and needs an overhaul but a lot of them have another year left.

If I was JR I would want a meeting as a minimum as a win yesterday would have left us 3 points off of 4th.

I don't know how old you are, but I'm 63 and been supporting SUFC for 52 years, maybe I just don't get as irate as some younger supporters do because it's nothing I've not seen before. But, what you describe is not unique to this season, I've seen it so many times before!

When given a chance of promotion that chance must be taken and worked on tirelessly until it’s no longer a possibility. Any talk of, next season will be better, is madness. Football is a funny game, we could well find ourselves fighting demotion next season. Just look at Daggers, nobody last season realistically thought they’d be struggling to stay in this league. The financial benefits and morale surrounding the club would be better served if we managed to gain promotion this season.

When you read some of the posts over this season, there is definitely a split on in or out. My biggest worry with one of those camps, is they don't seem to offer a solution to the problem, they just say things will get better on there own, bit like our style of management, keep on going things will improve.
The door has been left wide open for us, yet we keep tripping over the step.
If we get into the play offs, that for me is enough, as I don't think we will get through them., as it's an improvement.
Failure to do this is not good enough, as things behind the scenes are better...apparently

.
Really?

Waldron hasn't set the place alight and doesn't appear to be effective at Tamworth either.

Kid - well you've said it, he's playing kids football - it's a massive step up to men's football. Personally I have no idea if he's good enough, but it's not beyond me to think of a reason why he hasn't been called up to the 1st team squad (yet).

Doesn’t mean it should be acceptable

I reckon there is more local clubs than in Div2, only Col ewe would bring down fans and maybe Cambridge but only because of the past, so in terms of sustainable we maybe no worse off, at least we get crowds for play off push , cannot see this if we were in relegation mire or mid table
Next season will have a lot more mileage than this season especially with losing Barnet and Dagenham and getting the likes of Carlisle and morecambe and potentially Truro and Scunthorpe. The teams coming down from league one will likely make league 2 less mileage than this season too

@Cricko cheeky git!!!

We’ve all seen bad times at RH but I honestly think it’s the fact we’re non league, pulling in 8k and so close to getting a play off place for a 3rd year running that’s frustrating people. The potential of this club is massive.

Based on what most have said, Maher needing a full pre season, first choice signings etc etc the scrutiny on him will be huge over summer and in the opening 10 or so games. It’s got to be a full on tilt at promotion next season .. no excuses. Otherwise people will get very fed up very quickly. We need to keep the crowds coming in. So Kev has hopefully used this season as a guide to what’s missing & what needs doing so we hit the ground running.

It’s all on the players to turn up vs Braintree and make a statement. This season doesn’t have to be over but we need to win all 4. How does the team want to be remembered?

Have you ever watched York play? Night and day to Southend. OP would be starved at sufc.
We might’ve signed better midfielders, we don’t know. For sure, Kev won’t be able to hide behind the embargo next season, nor Cardwell/Kensdale going etc. .. but they’re valid reasons why we started this season poorly. Pearce is a better standard of player than that we were able to sign - surely you agree. Most of York’s team would walk into ours.

people keep saying about the recruitment , if im correct when Maher was first offered the job one of his conditions he spoke off is that he would have the last say on signings , JS and crew would scout players etc and bring to is attention but he would have the last say on who we sign, so every signing thats been made was ones Maher agreed to,they are his signings..
'they are his signings'... Yes, the buck stops with him. It does though depend on how much money he has to spend. Within those limitations though has he picked the wrong players? Looking at some of the comments on the forum it seems we do not have a midfield who deliver for the forwards. However, if you don't have a strong defence the midfield can't get up the pitch. When the ball does get delivered, we don't have forwards who can finish them off! If you can't buy good enough players, I doubt Maher can do much about the tactics. Looking at the likes of Bonne, I can't see a new coach turning him into a goal scoring machine. At the end of the day, it's about the money and the wise spending of.
