What would you do if you were Justin Rees

Jeez … He gets to October/November next season. End of.

He gets his chance to be in the race for the better players around at our level for the first time.

A chance he deserves after saving the club from absolute national league south oblivion against all odds.

People complain about players being disloyal. Football fans are just as bad in many ways.

I didnt say they didn't want promotion, it's just not the top of their list. Rebuilding roots hall will come first, and turning it into a sustainable club. If we got promotion with the current budget, result. But I don't think we are going to see big expenditure on the playing side for a while.
Yes of course they want promotion, but as you point out, which is the best way to get there? To attract good div 2 std players we need to be an attractive option and that means a decent infrastructure. However, a total rebuild of Roots Hall before investing in players won't be necessary, but we do need to show the potential players we are going somewhere. New training facilities, some stadium improvements and the big crowds we already pull in should be more than enough to get them onboard. Then there's the money!
I don't think JR is the main actor here, it'll be the other hard nut members of the Consortium swinging the axe.

Well all I can say to that is expect a lot of discontented fans and a reduced number of season ticket sales… no 8600 crowds based on current team plus 3 squad players for sure ..
Yes very true. Another season without the playoffs and the crowds will start to fall and with it so too the support of COSU. Blimey did I really just say that. I'm off to bed.

Trouble is I think a lot of people just do not have the confidence that he will be able to build a team and make the right signings.

There is enough evidence over the years that Maher and Co simply do not have what it takes to get us out of this hellhole. Time and time again we have seen promising positions frittered away by negative tactics, poor team selection and substitutions that don't make sense. This season the inconsistency has been worse than ever, exacerbated by poor signings and the usual stubborness in persisting with players clearly not up to their responsibilities such as strikers who can't score being just one example. Lack of creativity always a problem and I fear for Parillon, for example, as he is far too imaginative and creative to fit into Maher's preferred style of possession at all costs. If COSU can't see that we are going nowhere until they act decisively and get rid, then there is really no hope. The mediocrity of this league, where any team can beat another on the day, requires outstanding management in order to escape. We haven't got that in Maher and Co.
Spot on. I really dont understand how other fans cannot see this. Better players alone do not make a winning team.

Who would you have played up front today? Walker? A half fit Kendall? We don’t have out and out goalscorers. Had we not had a transfer embargo we might’ve signed Ollie Pearce, who .. incidentally.. scored a hat trick for York today.
Have you ever watched York play? Night and day to Southend. OP would be starved at sufc.

Unless the recruitment improves I'm not convinced there is any manager who could get this team into the playoffs
Again I don't get this. We've seen these players really impress in games when the tactics or how the opposition play is aligned to mahers style. One loss and they're all terrible players.

What about a decent way of playing where a player will have lots of opportunities to play well?

I wonder what the players think about playing for maher. Anyone on the inside ?

people keep saying about the recruitment , if im correct when Maher was first offered the job one of his conditions he spoke off is that he would have the last say on signings , JS and crew would scout players etc and bring to is attention but he would have the last say on who we sign, so every signing thats been made was ones Maher agreed to,they are his signings..

Let’s also not forget his lack of psychic insight into Ollie Kensdale’s shortcomings.

If there was a single more blinkered brainfart about this season than “transfer embargo is history” then I must have missed it.
Falling back on the old excuses cuts no ice now. Time to face it, Maher is a failure. Give him his testimonial and then show him the door.

Easing ? Have you seen how much debt the rat left us with ?
My understanding was some debts were paid off on the takeover, others payment plans were agreed to pay off over various terms. So my conclusion would be that (a) debts are now lower* and (b) the cashflow required to service the debt will be lower next season than this and hopefully lower the season after that as well. Hence my further conclusion that there's the possibility that cash could be available to modestly increase the playing budget.

*Until accounts are published I don't think we know how the club is being financed, debts could be being repaid by loans from COSU - so debt being replaced with debt - but the point on lower cashflow to service the debt still stands.

This is the problem isn’t it, the players are not terrible it’s how they are deployed. We struggle to beat teams that wish to defend deep because we are sooo slow on the build up. It’s great to have a controlled possession game but that can’t just be it, otherwise it’s like watching paint dry, there needs to be decisive forward fast play too to beat the man.

To many times I’ve watched us on their box play balls backwards to continue possession, and when it goes wrong we end up conceding which causes us to do more slow build up as the team is sitting deep, like Solihull did with 6 are the back yesterday

Some people are over reacting massively. Promotion was never the plan for this season and to have even been thinking of it should be considered a bonus. Likewise, to be calling for Kev's head is ridiculous. The man has just broken our record for matches, and has a richly deserved testimonial coming up.

The effects of RM's involvement were still being felt through the initial euphoria of the consortium's takeover. They still are. Kev and co will be given at least the start of next season having had a clear shot at getting in people they really want without the encumbrance of an embargo, and a full pre-season.

Next season will be the one in which to judge.

I wished I’d known it was never the plan to get promotion I could of saved £250, it must always be the plan or what’s the point.
