What would you do if you were Justin Rees

Personally, I would not let KM sign any players on permanent deals. I would only allow loan players, and once we start moving in the right direction, then allow him to bring in players.
I don't buy all this, we missed out on top targets, that was the start of the season .
The players we have brought in this year, have not been good enough. It seems every striker we sign, isn't up to the job, they are either poor or it's the system they play, one of those is the answer, as none of them are scoring !
This season has been a real let down, and most of us are expecting the same next year.....mid table mediocrity.

I didnt say they didn't want promotion, it's just not the top of their list. Rebuilding roots hall will come first, and turning it into a sustainable club. If we got promotion with the current budget, result. But I don't think we are going to see big expenditure on the playing side for a while.
There is no such thing as a sustainable club at our level.. this league is filled with clubs that are supported by rich owners.. we can be as sustainable as we like but unless sizeable monies is spent on player recruitment we will stay in this league for many years .. A la Wrexham…

Think some people need to re listen to the recent town hall thing with Tom Lawrence. Can’t see us massively increasing the playing budget at all and certainly can’t see us moving on many of the players we currently have especially as almost all of them are under contract until next summer.

We need a big summer but KM doesn’t want a big squad so we will probably get 3 squad players in at a push and none of them will be wow signings.

Well all I can say to that is expect a lot of discontented fans and a reduced number of season ticket sales… no 8600 crowds based on current team plus 3 squad players for sure ..

First thing i would do Monday morning is to sack Maher, Go after someone like Coughlan who is doing wonders at Boston,* I said someone like him * maybe not him as im not a fan of hiring ex players, I would give Dmim the caretakers job till end off the season maybe ,hes done the job once before whilst COSU look for a replacement. Well respected by the players too maybe he can get a tune out of them for the last 4 matches .We havent won more than 2 games in a row this season,we now need to win the last 4 to have any chance off making the playoffs ,we sure as hell wont do that under Maher.
Wouldn’t it be a little tricky to sack the present incumbent with a testimonial match to celebrate his time and dedication to a team/ club that was in free fall recently?
No one is bigger than the club and imo finishing this season knocking on the playoff doors 🚪 is pretty impressive .

So not unsackable but recruitment needs to improve

I'm fully expecting next season to be more of the same.

The signing of Hopper in January demonstrates Maher’s intentions and the type of player he wants. A striker who is good at defending set pieces. No embargo, no restrictions, could have signed many other players including loanees from further up the pyramid to try and score some goals, that signing is clearly on Maher. Is it a surprise we can’t score goals?
Added to that, I can’t stand his antics on the sidelines, he’s like a child. I’ll be glad when he’s gone.

Do you have any evidence he could have signed many other players including loanees from further up the pyramid, with the funds he had at his disposal ?

Do you have evidence there wasn’t other options available? I’m not suggesting even permanent signings, so finances wouldn’t be such an issue, loanees could have done a better job, but maybe not defensively which is clearly a priority. There are huge numbers of youngsters available at other clubs.

Pepple was a great example of what can be found, we don’t have to go back to old players from local rivals and give them stupidly long contracts they don’t deserve. Terrible bit of business that signing.

That's a no, then 🤔 It wasn't me that made that claim. I would suggest you've criticised his signing, without even knowing whether there were other players available on our budget. I think we need to accept that at stage SUFC wasn't a very attractive proposition

We could sign Messi and he wouldn’t score many in this team. It is simple - because we are so slow building up play we find it almost impossible to play a through ball to a striker which is why 90%+ of our attacks end up with a cross in to the box. Players like Ollie Pearce, Langstaff etc wouldn’t get the same numbers they do if they were here because of the way we build up play. We need to go from passing it around 40 times before trying to go towards the oppositions box and go much more direct,

I looked at the goal of the season selections the other day and noticed Chris Phillips also done a post on it and none of the goals are ‘wow’ goals or memorable at all really because almost all of them are within the 18 yard box.

I have no in the know info. But I suspect there could be scope to increase the playing budget - alot of cashflow this season has gone on debt repayments, that should be easing now. I'd hope that some of that cash outflow can be used for playing budget and some towards balancing the books. Hopefully also the increased match day revenue can also contribute. We won't be doing a Wrexham or FGR but I'd hope we can start being more competitive, as well as timely, in the transfer market.
Oh mate, I don't know how to tell you this...

Easing ? Have you seen how much debt the rat left us with ?

You’re correct, I have criticized him without knowing all the options, but I’m fairly confident there were better out there. Are you truly telling me you believe Hopper was the best option available? It feels like a lazy signing to me.

We signed him in January, just a couple of months ago. Ron’s gone, more sponsors than ever, debts are being paid, biggest crowds in the league, big exciting plans to develop the stadium, the team and club are supposedly on the up. The club hasn’t been as attractive a proposition as it is now for many years and you’re saying we couldn’t attract a loan or permanent signing better than Hopper has been? I just can’t agree.

And, if we knew he wasn’t good enough, if we knew he was simply the best we could attract at the moment, would we really also agree to a long contract? That makes no sense. Hopper was likely the best defensive attacker, I would guess. Awful business.

Some people seem blinded by Maher the ‘legend’.
