Zero hour contracts

I was a victim of this in Spain in the early 80's -though at that time it was only six months here.

Another language school I worked for not long afterwards deducted full SS contributions for the first year but only offered a permanent contract after two years employment-which was of course completely illegal and cheated me of a year's pension contributions.

Bloody Spanish, never let a day go by.

Despite my well earned reputation has a heartless capitalist zealot, I wholeheartedly agree with MC on this point. If we are to encourage people to get off their arses and work rather than siphoning off the nation's resources through benefits, minimum wage jobs have to provide greater security than the dole.
Did you meet up with the Devil and buy a little bit of your soul back?
That is meant as a compliment.

Perhaps you could explain some of the things you kippers are actually for, rather than just against, (eg the EU,open borders etc)?

Also, how on earth do you lot actually plan to take the UK out of the EU with just a handful (at most) of MP's?

What's UKIP's position on zero hours contracts?

Lose the argument then twist it around and ignore anything that questions your slimy views. I'm done posting on here for a while before I get banned.

Ironic that really when the next - was Tory now UKIP - same man - same seat - MP is a few days away. They can't even say they were on a break they've seamlessly jumped from one right wing bed to another.

With all due respect carswell was voted back in with a bigger majority....Rochester and strood hasn't been decided yet but will be democratically...what's the problem?

He was voted in with a bigger majority because the town was the political focus for a few weeks.
The reality for me with these two elections is that it's the same **** - different party.

I am going to pipe up on the zero hour contract. I currently employ around 30 people on zero hour contracts. I run a private domiciliary care firm and the business relies on potential clients ringing and requiring services. ....no clients no income. The business simply could not survive if everyone was guaranteed x amount of hours....nature of my business is clients arent around for ever. This is where recruitment comes in. I do look for those who want a very flexible work option, semi retired people. Just to add I never promise x amount of hours but more often than not I manage to build hours up to desired levels.

I'm sure AAS wont mind me pointing out her arrogance, if she does she can let me know and I will apologise
If you think back to the fact that I was replying to your assertion that there is no difference between Labour and Conservatives by pointing out that UKIP's first and maybe second MPs were Tory MPs a nano second ago - sure I'm arrogant and you are the King of Irony.
You thinking I am a woman is possibly the biggest compliment I have ever received. If only it were true.

If you want to be a girl AAS, then you be a girl...dont let anyone stand in the way of your dreams.

This is a great post Lee and illustrates the point that I was trying to make to the lefties that you run the firm with zero hour contracts or the firm doesn't run at all. I would say funny how they chose to ignore it but most of them don't live in the actual world but some fantasy world of how things should be according to the Guardian.

It is an interesting perspective, but still doesn't get away from the fact that often those who are forced onto zero hours contracts (and yes, they often are FORCED) can be those most in need of having secured pay and hours.

I wonder also how holiday leave works on zero hour contracts? With most part time work you have pro-rata'd holidays, so how does that work if you don't have regular hours?

Are you saying that someone already on a fixed term contract can be forced to change to a zero hours?
