Your unfulfilled ambition

I have always wanted to be involved in a threesome with two busty stunners and whislt I have come close I have never realised my dream.

When I was in my miid thirties I promised myself (like others) to run the london marathon ,which I acheived. The other thing was to learn to play the saxophone which at the moment is sitting on top of my wordrobe. Like D.T.S a threesome would be up their as well, but sadly its becoming nothing more than a dream N.B*If your reading this darling, of course I Would only watch*!

I'm already booked in to tick off another random ambition later on this year: I always wanted to go to a Christmas Market in Germany, so I've booked a wee trip for me and the wife.

So, there you go!

:D

I love germany, it's the Oktoberfest that does it for me mainly, but the Christmas markets are fantastic! When in December are you going and to which ones MtS? I go every few years and i always get the best presents when there, i even like shopping in Germany.

Do the shops put up decorations and start playing Xmas music in early September as they do in the UK?

When I was younger (mid-late 20s) I hated running with a passion. I went to the gym regularly but avoided the running machines like the plague. In the last 3-4 years I have started to run a lot (albeit indoors!) and actually really enjoy it. I would now love to run the marathon, but my wife won't let me! She's a physio and has told me that my bad left knee wouldn't last the distance. For that reason it's not an ambition of mine, but I still harbour hopes...

It's nowhere near as stupid as here, but i go out usually a week into December so don't really know when it starts. It's nowhere near as tacky as Britain or quite as commercialized and you can get some bloody good presents.

The one thing I spent my life saying I was going to do was learn to fly, and (as mentioned on many other threads) I have managed that.

Funny, in those terms my wife is miles ahead of me. Nearly all the things she's wanted to do in life she has done. In the three years before we met she did the Himalayas, Kilimanjaro and the Inca Trail.

We both always wanted to SCUBA dive, so we learnt and then we went to the Maldives for our honeymoon to dive. The one diving thing she doesn't want to do that I do, is wreck diving. So SBH, when you've got your PADI, let me know.

However, the one ambition she has outstanding is to wing walk, so we're looking into it!

Fair play to ya mate, I tryed Scuba diving in thailand. This consisted of them throwing us of the boat in the middle ocean and trying to take us down without any training. I got about half way down and had to come back up as i didnt feel safe and felt really wheezey.

Ill stick to snorkling from now on i think.

Some of the best wreck diving in the world is supposed to be in the UK.

You're a changed man since your weekend break in Colchester, Yorkshire.

Cologne, 1-2 Dec. They have six separate Christmas markets in the city for us to peruse, and then we can always go and explore the Cathedral if we fancy a break from the Gluwein...

:D

Managed to get cheap flights from my favourite airport in the UK - London City - to Dusseldorf for £79.45 return, so I am a v. happy bunny.

:)

Funny you should mention this as the missus wants us to go this year. Where do you normally go? How long do you go for etc?

I go to cologne but thats mainly because i have friends living nearby. One of the markets is in front of the cathedral, which is fantastic and you really ought to climb the tower if you get the chance. The station is right next to the Cathedral too, if you are maybe travelling to Cologne from somewhere else in Germany for the day. All the markets are within walking distance of each other and they do have some peculiar things for sale. MtS i recommend doing the cathedral market at night, they have a stage there and have entertainment from about 8 which is really nice to walk around to. (Normally a live band.) The food at these markets is fantastic also, really nice sausages! I can't remember the name of the department store, might be Kaufhaus or something which is another really interesting shop which isn't really near the markets but more into the city bit. Also the Lego shop nearby is great if buying for kiddies, all the latest stuff going for not bad prices. I don't think you can go wrong really. Where abouts are you staying MtS, there are some really nice hotels near to the cathedral which are ridiculously well priced.
2-3 days is normally more than enough KS depends on what else you want to do if anything? If i go it's usually for the second weekend in December as anything after its gets quite crowded. I think you have chosen some good dates there too MtS! Once you've been there is no way you ever want to go Christmas shopping at Lakeside again! Oh and a quick mention for the fantastic bars and nightlife.

In the Altstadt - found a really lovely-looking place for £60 a night B&B for me and the missus... like you say, a lot cheaper than in the UK (but then, isn't everywhere nowadays?).

:thump:

Really looking forward to it, and thanks for the tips. We're doing the "2-3 days" you suggest - a morning flight on Fri 30 Nov in fact (just checked the dates) and back on the evening of Sun 2 Dec. Direct trains taking 40 minutes from Dusseldorf airport to Cologne Hbf... you've got to love German transport...

:D

If anyone fancies going to Hamburg for their Christmas Market, I cannot speak highly enough about this place - Hotel Wedina. Wondeful rooms, lovely atmosphere, great brekkers, in a cool & vibrant area - and best of all, the hotel has free bicycles which you can just borrow and cycle around Hamburg - a brilliant way to get around, especially since the City is quite flat. Truly one of the best places I've ever stayed - and at €108 B&B per room per night, hardly bank-busting either.

:)

Andy, if you're looking for more info on Xmas markets, here's the page on the official German Tourist Office website

Don't give up that easily mate. Give it another go, it is well worth it. Some the views you see under water are just amazing, and the colours...
