Your Journey Home

Maidstone Shrimper

Old Fella⭐⭐🦐
Looking at the Check In thread it seems everyone enjoyed their journey to Wembley. Just wondered how folk’s journeys home were after all the hot air spouted by the NL etc about capping the attendance. For me it was pretty much what I expected. Not a bundle of laughs but not a nightmare especially considering the result. From joining the back of the queue at Wembley Central it took about 50 minutes to be squeezed on to a Lioness line train to Euston. I don’t recall waiting any less in 2015 to get a train at Wembley Park. The Lioness train was totally rammed but everyone was in amazingly good humour considering the heartache. From Euston it was very civilised to Liverpool Street where Greater Anglia clearly thought they’d done their bit by running 10 coach long trains in the morning and treated us to 5 coaches for the return and keeping the platform number to a secret until the last minute. A couple of false rumours saw some fans getting on to empty platforms then we gambled on an empty train with nothing on the boards. So 3 of us (2 oldies and a very tired young ‘un) got seats, the other three stood to Rayleigh with many others. So it was all as expected. IMHO it would have been pretty much the same with an unrestricted capacity and Wembley Park open. How was it for you?

45 min queue at Wembley Stadium station. Then a 10 min journey to Marylebone. Short walk to Baker St, tube to Tower Hill and C2C back to Southend. Got a seat on all of them. Smooth enough. Home by 9:15pm. They did the best they could under the circumstances.

On another note there was a poor chap on the floor receiving medical attention in the queue for the Marylebone train. Hope he is ok.

Walked to North Wembley and avoided the hideous queues at Central and Stadium. The C2C decided to turn off the aircon so a whole carriage and possibly train sweltered for an hour. Cheers shirt sponsors!! Lots of sad Shrimpers and an inconsolable 11yr old who had to go to school this morning after a week off. Cheers NL… lots to be optimistic about but still feel sick inside

Hope he was okay, does anyone know?

me and my boy hung around Wembley High Rd and got some dinner then it was on the 7.30ish Chiltern back to Marylebone, tube and the 8.23 from Liv St back to Rochford.
But yes you are correct @Maidstone Shrimper - Greater Anglia did their best to frustrate/ anger / annoy us even more by late notice of platform numbers and shorter trains.
Had to stand until Shenfield 🙄

It was all great until London Liverpool Street on the way home. The Greater Anglia train back to Southend yesterday was a horrid squeeze.

Feel for the people trying to get on at Stratford/Romford. They didn't stand a chance getting on.

Queued for about half an hour or so to get into Wembley Stadium station, started off slow but wasn’t too bad once it got going. Then train into Marylebone and over to Baker Street where we were intending to take the tube back to Liverpool Street. However that developed a fault at Kings Cross and we all got turfed off. Ended up going via Holborn and made it to Liverpool Street for the 19:45 c2c service home. Bit of a faff in the end, though not the fault of Wembley or the National League.

Understandably we left soon after the match and head to Wembley Central, we walked past an Oldham pub and saw a few Latics fans going into the pub - they must have missed the celebrations- weird, but maybe they just needed a beer!

30 mins at Wembley Central- I did feel for the guy who parked in the corner and had a wall of unhappy shrimpers to look at.

Went to Wagamama after clocking the queues at Wembley Central. Had food, walked to Wembley Stadium station which was clear by then, Marylebone - Baker St - Liverpool St - Chalkwell. C2C 90% Shrimpers. Lots of chat about the game in our carriage, very sombre mood.

Walked to Willesden, in a bit of a trance, jumped on a bus to Little Venice. A canal side Tap house (where you could pour your own) cheered us up (just a tad). Short walk to Paddington and Lizzie Line back home.

Had to leave pretty sharpish after the whistle. Got on a train just after 6pm to Beaconsfield. Sat with a couple of Oldham fans. Decent blokes. Got to the car at from a car park in Beaconsfield. Drove to Beaconsfield services and spent and hour getting some food in the Hope and Champion Wetherspoons there. Got home in Leamington just before 9pm. Was an impressive convoy of Oldham fan filled coaches all heading up the M40
